As the topic says already, I'm a newbee to trials, but not to bikes. I just bought myself a '99 GasGas txt270 to try to learn the basics of trials. I got infected by a friend who's into this sport for about 20 years now As for the moment I'll mostly be doing reading and learning, though I might come up with some technical questions, since I do not know the ins and outs of the bike yet. There is a proper chance by the way, that this winter the GasGas will get a third wheel, since the "three wheel fever" has been running through my veins for over 2 decades and that way my better half could participate in the sport

It seems customary to introduce yourself, so I am doing a quick note to say hello. I have discovered trials late in life and purchased a twin shock rather than a modern bike - old bike for an old bloke! Have a 1977 Montesa 348, which has surprised me on a few occasions, but other than a couple of niggling problems has proven rock solid. I am still very much in the 'L' plate stages of trials, but it is still a heck of a buzz to ride a bike on some of the terrain we practice on. Any way to the point of joining initially - a question - does anyone know the reason for 'phantom neutrals' on a 348 gearbox? On some occasions the gearbox seems to slip into neutral, when you h…

Thought I would be civil and say high to all..... Coming back into trials after about 20 years out of the saddle. Rode twin shocks in the 80's at schoolboy level for many years and now that my son wants to start (he's 17) it seemed an ideal excuse to get myself a bike! Looking forward to the chat etc....

Hello, My name is Doug and I live in NE Oregon. I've been riding motorcycles and atv's since I was 9 yrs old which is a long time ago since I'm 43 now....lol I got my first trials bike (74 Yamaha TY 250) from a friend last fall when he passed away. I plan on keeping it and possibly restoring it in the near future. It's complete except for the headlight switch assy and a speedometer. As soon as I get spark to the new spark plug I plan on teaching my wife the basics of motorcycle riding so she can get her motorcycles license. I hope to make lots of new friends here on the forum and maybe someday meet some of you to ride together. Doug

Hi there, just registered with this website after reading some of the advice etc on Honda's TLR Models. I've had my big bore 200 since school and only recently pulled it out of the shed after arriving back from Australia and NZ some 9 years later. the bike has done very little work since an engine rebuild back in 1997 and has been basically gathering dust since around 2000. I've recently stripped the bike and am weighing up the various options (powder coating, enamel finish etc). The dilema i am currently facing is that a neighbour who has been after the bike for years recently revealed some knowledge of the bike that i had no idea about... I bought the bike as a bored ou…

Just joined and would like to have a chat with those interested in 70's Bultaco Sherp T's. At present I have 4 of them ranging from 1972 to 79 and all quit different. Who knows what they are talking about when it comes to the different models in this era. I am based near London in the UK and normally do not have the information at hand when it comes to identify problems and spares availability. Dave Rainham is very good, but I do not like pestering him too much, he has a business to run and not woffle with a geek like me ! Also, want to get hold of a 1975 model. Any thoughts let me know.

Hi all, Loving the site already, so much good info! I started riding off road bikes when i was 6 (mainly scramblers and enduro style bikes). I stopped riding when i was around 15/16 and i am now 22. The one style of bike i've always loved and wanted to try is trials...yet i've never had the chance Until now I've got between 1100 and 1500 pound to spend on a decent trials bike that is going to be used for fun in woods and local trails. I have always loved the gas gas bikes and have been looking at the txt 250. WOuld this be a good trials bike to start on? The biggest bike i have been on before is 200cc. I'm open to other bikes like a sherco & beta etc. Cheers guys…

Hi, thanks for reading this. I am wanting to get into motorcycle trials as it looks really good fun. I have started speaking to local clubs to get myself started in that way. Very soon I will be needing to get myself a trials bike to play with. Now i am thinking that as a begineer who hasnt really ridden a motorbike before, i need to get myself a starter bike. Something that doesnt cost too much and is easy to learn on. After reading some things on the net it looks like i should be looking for a bike of around 250cc as I am 26 years old and a 125cc may be a little underpowered. Can anyone advise me on some bikes that would be suitable please. Would

Hello Trials riders, My name is Jim and I started riding vintage trials two years ago. I have a Yamaha TY 175 that I have been competing on and really like the bike. I gave up motorcycles 45 years ago and recently got back into riding. Yes, I am 64 and that makes me an old man but I am really enjoying the trials sport and the camaradie associated with the vintage events. I live in Western Colorado, USA. My hobby is buying vintage trials bikes and fixing them up. It's a great sport.

I recently purchased a 1985 Honda TLR250. The engine starts easy and idles nice. Just off idle the engine hesitates for a moment. When I pull the spark plug it is black and sooty. Carburetor information: Keihin 22mm, Main jet 100, pilot jet 38, slide 2.5, Needle position 2nd from top, idle air screw 1 1/4 turns out, spark plug DPR 8EA, plug gap .30", new air filter. My Question: How can I get rid of the hesitation just off idle and is the sooty plug a problem. Thanks for your help........Spongy

Thought I`d better say hello , and give some very brief history. Names Liam Never rode Trials properly, used to have a TY250 when I was 19....a few years ago, 37 now. Decided to buy another bike...got a gas gas 280....and...oh my don`t they pull well and how the hell do you guys manage to do the things you do and make it look so easy. Anyway got a few simple questions, with the influx of lovely baseball cap wearing lads riding motoX on the streets.....its seems the police have took a major dislike to anything thats not on the road. With that in mind, where can people practice without fear of arrest (based in Stoke-on-Trent) And what do you have to do/have to take pa…
