USA Trials

Nutty as it is, I'm spending another beautiful weekend glued to Trials Central. Not totally glued, but stuck enough to return every couple of hours for information about the USA Indoor, the AMA Youth Nationals, the European and World championships. The question of the day. For friends and family or a rabid fan, if you can't make it to the event for some reason or another, how important is it to get timely information about the event? a) Very important Somewhat important c) Not important at all

Just think, if our forefathers didn't sign that document in 1776, we'd all still be british and Patrick's win wouldn't have been such a big deal as it is. But we did - and it is. Looking at the comments, our brothers to the north in Canada are just excited about the great news as us in America. Patrick delivered every North American trials fan the best Independence Day present we could ask for. A victory in a sport we all so cherish. I woke up proud to be a North American today. I hope you did too? From all of us at Team Smage, Noel, Patrick, Phillip, David, Wild Bill, Kevin, Max, and myself - Happy fourth of July.

In cooperation with Dan Brown we will do the "official bike weights" at the TTC Tennessee National. The bikes will be weighed ready to ride without fuel! The last time there were a couple of surprises (including the Tommi Ahvala real weight)!

Me and a buddy of mine load up the bikes and head to our club for a quick rip, and to our surprise, Geoff Aaron is visiting and riding. To make a long story short I parked the bike and watched him and a few others go ballistic on their bikes. Absolutely amazing!!!

Anyone with trials related stickers(or almost) they want rid of, or trade, let me know! I need a few more for the trailer!

As we here in TX have come around once again to Summer, with high temps and sometimes even higher humidity levels, we generally take a break from riding, with only one mid summer event done over two days PM/AM to avoid the killer heat. As I recall, it was still near 105 F. last year at the start of the PM Sat. trial! Made me think of the US Nationals going on over the mid year. I know those guys are not dumb, as you just Do Not Do a round in the hottest regions in mid summer. This stuff can kill you! Comments were made about the TN rounds and the temps! And depending upon the weather, OH can get really hot! Many are still extreme! All things considered, does this give …

So is anyone planning on heading for Marion this weekend? I have never been before. Looks to be hot with maybe some rain on Sunday. Can someone comment on the area we will be riding in? Do you know if we will ride the same sections Sat and Sun? Alan

Like to get beyond blue jeans and sweatshirts, for something cooler and more freedom of motion. I presently wear HRP (Moose Racing) knee pads under the jeans. Looking for pants with pockets built in for knee pads and a jersey with pockets for elbow pads I am 57, 175 lbs, spandex is NOT an option! Ideas at reasonable prices? tks, kcj

Congratulations to V-Mar team riders Chris Florin and Colton Haaker for their wins today in Ohio. The slippery conditions made for some exciting riding. Section 7 was the killer for the Pro riders with only Chris and Keith (both V-Mar riders) making it over the big gnarly undercut step. This was the defining section with the top three Pro riders finishing with only a 1 point between them. Cody and Patrick were tied for second, one point behind Chris, with Patrick getting the win on cleans. Bruce LeRiche had a good showing today after putting on a new set of V-Mar snail cams. Goodmorning everyone. We should have fair coverage (with photos) on the TTC National this weekend. Weather is perfec. it's going to be in the upper 80's or low 90's by mid-day. Last night a decent thunderstorm rolled through the mountain ridge, which may or may not have a effect on today's sections. We'll see.

TMavTV broadcast of the 1st two rounds of the series from Colorado will be coming very soon. I did the color commentary with Brian Drebber announcing. Rounds 1 and 2 will each be a separate 1 hr show, focused on the Pro class of course. Excellent video coverage in High-Def, if you are lucky enough to have the MavTV network on your cable system. If not, you are still in luck because the shows will be broadcast via broadband over the web, at the location & time shown below. I've just bought my first trials bike after riding misc dirt bikes for the last 25+ years. I got a 315r. I am wondering what is the best way to learn, are there good training videos recomended and who sells them? I live in willamette valley area of Oregon and don't know of any groups that are active. I have some very technical hilly area with various size logs down to climb over and a few pallets to jump over in my back yard which has been fun and I think a good start. I was kinda chicken to try the 1 1/2 ' logs but when I did it was no problem the bike whet right over, so soon be ready for more challenge. thanks for your input, Bruce

The bikes are tough enough, same running gear and all! They WILL go if you have the guts to pull the trigger! It is still to be seen if the 125 will come up short in some cases, but the pilots are aggressive! (and young)! I happen to agree totally that the 125 is the perfect tool for younger riders, but there are differences in the limited brands available, and the Sherco seems to be the Top of the Lot, power wise and in stock trim! The Gassers will go, but do not seem to have the torque off the bottom, and the Beta's in stock trim work well, but ? For that level of competition may take some mods! Will we see any 4T's in the 125's? In competition? I seen the Italians …

I have just bought my first trials bike, a 1999 montesa 315r. Now I need to learn to ride this thing. I've rode dirt/woods/ desert for years and am ready for a new challange. I have a bunch of pallets to climb over, a couple of 1 1/2 - 2 foot tall logs, and some good hill climbs in the back yard, I figure thats a good starting point but wonder if there are better videos or training sites in the western u.s. Also what about competion in western u.s.? Thanks, Bruce
