  1. Hi,How much did the sherpa engine change between 1971 M-80 and later models 72 on? In particular internals ie clutch gearbox etc? Cheers
  2. Thanks mate, will do that tomorrow p.m.
  3. Hi, barrel and head now removed, piston is badly pitted on crown and small end bearing appears to be the problem. There is no vertical play on big end but some lateral movement on con rod. The piston is stamped "73" is this standard bore or oversize as i cannot see any + figures. Any advice welcome, cheers
  4. Thanks Wayne, will get barrel off at weekend and post findings then, Myson
  5. Hi, got her in bits and removed cylinder head to check bore etc. I noticed that I can rotate the piston in the barrel several degrees. every thing else looks clean, no score marks etc. Is the small end bearing shot or is it normal. I have tried to ease barrel away from cranks but I dont want to use to much force. Any advice gratefully accepted, Cheers, Myson

  8. Thats good news Wayne. I will replace bushes anyway with correct ones from Bultaco uk. Do you think a new spindle made from 12mm stainless bar would be ok? Cheers

  10. Had a look in a copy of a manual(for Alpina so similar to Sherpa) I have and there were two types of swinging arm fitted one had a one piece tube across (Mod 49 type?)between frame and the other was two short tubes. Mine has the one piece and it looks like the 12mm spindle just runs through the bush without any outer bushes. Has not been modded in any way as I can see the bushes in the arm, Cheers
  11. Thanks again for help, will pay attention to everything you mentioned. I am replacing the spindle as threads are ropey, is it worth renewing bushes while it is stripped down to save work later? When you say outer bushes I can only see one set which are in the swinging arm, not like later models that have two sets. Cheers
  12. Cheers, M-80 only has one set of bushes from what I can see, pressed into arm. Do you rekon its ok to leave them in and tape over bore? Thanks
  13. Hi guys, i am continuing with the restoration of my M-80 and am looking for guidance on removing swinging arm bushes prior to grit blasting and powder coating frame and swinging arm. Any tricks or tips? By the way is
