Model 49 Frame

Featured Replies

Hi are there any major differences between M-49 and M-80 frames?

Cheers

Nothing major I seem to recall. Maybe slightly different fixing points for the seat unit.

Thanks Wayne, here is another one what about a 1971 sherpa frame compared to a 1971 alpina? Same geometry, steering angle etc. they look exactly the same to me,

Myson

Must be watching the stuff on Evilbay!

Not sure actually. They were probably very close. Not sure if all Alpinas had the rear brake on the rhs, some certainly did.

Take it you never found a frame number?

WOW! your on the ball mate, your right, no frame number. Do you think

Its an M-80, you think it would be better to wait for right frame, I didnt see the basket case listed, some parts could be usefull for my restore,

Cheers,

Myson

If it was me, I'd wait for one to come along, and one will.

All depends on your priorities really. Not having matching frame and engine numbers is not a very bad thing, but my belief is that it's better if they are at least the same model.

most grateful for your help.

How about a number from a different country? I live in Canada and have and M80 that would never be registered in the UK.

As far as I am aware the M80 and M85 frame are identical. The M49 was different from the M80 but only in its mount points for tank seat etc

Steve

If you want to be fussy, the 85 Alpina frame doesn't have bolt on footrest hangers like the 80

With the 49, depends which 49 frame you're referring to, there are 3 types and only the last type is the same as the 80 (excepting tank, seat and sidepanel mountings as mentioned)

First type the shocks are more upright and there is only a single tube under the engine

Second type has the shocks repositioned but still only single tube under engine

Third type has two bottom frame tubes with wire mesh between, like the 80.

Sorry not been folowing this recently - If your looking for an M80 frame with a number I know a person selling one including swing arm and side stand. I'll send a pm with phone number tomorrow.

Be careful there are three different types of M49 frame. The last type (after about M49- 02800 from memory) is the one that is very similar to the M80. The earlier M49 frames are nothing like M80 - they are very similar to the M27 frame.

Another thing before you buy another frame - make sure it has a legit frame number or you will be no better off
