  1. lad at work had a blat on my 315r today, reckons he's had years playing on crossers so of he goes and then cracks the throttle wide in 2nd and loops the bike within 10 feet of me :o thing is it landed upside down and stayed there revving its nuts off for maybe 5 seconds before i righted it and shut the jammed throttle. it re-started straight away and doesnt seem to be rattling/or knocking. i ran it this evening up to temp and had a run up the road and all seems ok but do i need to worry bout anything else?

  2. righty ho the story so far is its survived an all day thrashing by me and pulls hard in every gear now. the plug is NOT new as i was out with the previous owner and asked him when it was last changed, he shrugged and said "dunno never changed it in the year i had it" so off for a new one tommorow. however it does seem to be running alright not hot, pinking, knocking etc etc. thanks for all the replies and help lads lets hope this one is now put to bed.

  3. plug is an NGKBR6ES and is new it looked perfect a week or so ago a nice light tan colour not oily at all. its strange alright! thing is if i set the air screw to one turn out it runs like the choke is on all the time in all the gears, if i wind it out 3 turns it runs perfect and revs cleanly. thing is its done about 6 trips 3/4hrs at a time with the air screw 2 1/3rd turns out it was just missing in 2nd gear but it never got hot, pinked, knocked nothing. all i've done is go another 1/2 turn which has cleaned up 2nd gear. going out tommorow for a run so i'll check the plug when i get back.

  4. i couldnt tell you if its late or early!! only had the bike 6/8weeks and still learning all its little foibles. on mine, which is a 98, the airmix screw is on the airbox side as you look at it and in the picture in the 2002 manual i have the airscrew is on the engine side.

although something just occcured to me in the fact that the instructions i quoted above were from the 02 manual and i have an 98 bike...........

  5. right then. i went out and warmed the bike for about 15 mins and went and re set the air/mixture screw to the manual i.e. 1 turn out. it started alright but wouldnt rev in any gear just massive mis-fire and would only just tick over if the tick over screw was wound in hard.went back to the 2 1/4 turns and it worked ok and had to wind out the tick over to stop it racing. hmmmm what happens if i go another half turn out???? wonders me! result nice even tickover and pulls from rest in 2nd gear and revs out cleanly!!!! dunno what the half turn did but it seems to work perfect now.

the manual says to adjust this screw till the bike revs up smoothly and adjust the throttle stop??

  6. whats an E3 sparkie? some kind of all singing and dancing, improve your mpg/power/looks type of spark plug? 'scuse my ignorance but if they were any good then surely the manufacturers would be fitting them as standard. montesa/hrc didnt spend all that money developing my bike only for me to decide that they were wrong in their choice of spark plug

  7. i seem to have a misfire but it only does it in 2nd gear... it will pull hard till about 1/2 throttle then just splutter and not clear if i change up it pulls like a steam train any ideas where i start looking? the carb is spotless clean and the fuel is fresh, the airmix screw is 2 1/4 turns out( like this when i got it a month ago) was thinking of going in a half turn??

  8. aaaarggghhh one says leave it the other says fix it! what's a man to do?? had another poke at it yesterday and there is about half an inch vertical free play in the linkages at the back wheel so thats a small amount at the dog bones themselves. think i will keep an eye on it over the next few weeks and see what happens

  9. thats my mind at rest then! its not a new bike but it seems to be well minded so i'm very happy with it. just fiddling and fettling things to suit me so i'm sure there are going to be a few more newbie/amature/silly questions.

  10. should there be any play in the dog bones when the bike is resting on its skid plate and the rear wheel is at full droop? bike feels good but noticed it the other day while changing the chain and sprockets. thanks and a merry xmas to you all!!
