  1. Hi, anyone know if there are any other type of piston that can be used as tarabusi o/sized are getting hard to find. My 247 is on std but with a lot of wear so it may have to be bored to its 2nd o/s which, i think , is 73.5mm and i cant find a piston to fit that doesn't cost a small fortune or one that does!!!

Try Jared, at Southwest Montesa. (http://www.southwestmontesa.com/) When I rebuilt my 247, about a year ago, he was working on modifying a batch of Bultaco pistons, to fit as 1st oversize, in the 247. I was fortunate in being able to go with standard size, so didn't have to wait, and see if he was succesful, or not.

  2. That is the late, great Joe Gugliemeli. It would take a lot of words to tell you what a great guy and rider he was. I have lots of Joe G stories. One year we went to the Spanish World round. In those days all the Spainsh bikes came standard with 4 ply Firestone trail tires. All the factories loaned us bikes with proper Dunlops installed except Ossa gave Joe a bike with Firestones. No matter, he went on to finish Top American. He was tragically killed in a trailriding accident years ago. He should have been National Champion. He got screwed. He rode on the Yamaha and Honda Teams. He could ride anything.

That was a great National in OK. Great sections. Close competition. 35 years ago! Yikes!

Check out Marland's number of cleans. More than the winner.

Jon, I can't read how many cleans I had. Can you read it? I had a good day. Soooo many good riders.

More than 19, and less than 30! Hey Martin, jump on a plane and come on over to Houston this weekend. We are having the 6th annual (skipped a year) Gary Jackson 2 Day trial, and sure would like to see you again.

  3. Thanks for the advice. Both bikes are in great condition, I am leaning more toward the the gas gas though because its cheaper. I only want a cheaper bike because I am going to really get into this and while I am learning I don't want to be holding back because I am afraid to damage the bike and ruin its value. If I get a cheaper/older bike then I wont be holding anything back. Im sure after a few years Ill step it up with a much newer one. I was just curious if there are any great advancements between the two that would make me want the 03 sherco rather then the 99 gas gas. If they are going to be near identical to a beginner then the cheaper is the better route to take. So if you know of any reasons to get one or the other then please let me know soon because I am possibly buying the gas gas very soon.

They won't be "near identical". Regardless of brand, a lot happened between 1999 and 2003. Clutch action/engagement improved. Brakes improved as most bike shifted from single piston, to dual piston, on the front. The disks themselves were improved, going from plain flat and round, to more of a wave style, with cutouts, etc. These are general changes that happened across all the brands, but specific to your question, the 99 Gas Gas and 03 Sherco will not be near identical. And, if your worth your salt, at all, it will not be "a few years" before you are going to be lusting after a newer bike.

  4. Hello Guys and Girls

I bougth a TK carb for a 250a from ebay but when I opened it up it was a mess. White milky liquid like clay came out of it everywhere. Petrol does not remove it! Any ideas please? Thanks

Can of spray carb cleaner, from the local auto parts store. Just don't get it on any of the rubber parts. Remove them first, and disassemble down to the parts you want to clean.

  5. Mid Atlantic- Well, today it finally got above 40, so I was out on the bike from about 430 to dark. We had our first couple inches of snow Monday, but yesterday got above freezing. Combined with temps today, there wasn't too much snow left. I rarely get out unless it got above 40. My lil fingers just can't handle the cold levers otherwise. (My hands are REALLY small) Did manage to wipe out in the driveway though. Black ice is nasty stuff. Tomorrow is looking fairly good for riding also. After that, its back into the 20s for a little while.

I get to go to San Antonio in March though. I noticed there is a TX event in Houston...

We were out clearing sections, for the Houston event, yesterday. Beautiful, crystal clear, 68 degrees! Summers can be rough, but it pays off now. Hope you can make it over for the event. Opening rounds are in Austin, TX next weekend, and then the 3rd & 4th round are in Houston March 7 & 8. Event flyer will be online (www.texastrials.com) in a week, or two, with all the details.

  6. normally we only tow with one are two bikes on our 3 bike trailer but next week we are taking a mate to a trial, and the 3 bikes will not fit on the trailer together without the bars interferring with each other, what can i do to fix this problem?

    thanks,sam

Loosen the bars on the middle bike, and roll them forward, or backward, as necessary to clear, then tighten the bars back up.

  7. Soory for some reason I was thinking Siberia.

It would be interesting to see where all the trials riders are from around the World.

A few years back, wasn't there a map tool that we all stuck our pins into, so folks could see where we were located? What happened to that?

  8. Luckily none of the 4T trials bikes have the delicate/fragile titanium valve - many of which need replacement after xx hours of racing!

The Scorpa 250F has titanium valves. 5 of them, as a matter of fact. Since trials engines don't see the same abuse as the MX bikes, I would imagine that the two worlds don't compare. If they did, then the first of the Montesa 4RT's would be getting pretty ripe for piston replacements about now, and that does not seem to be a problem we are hearing about. Fair assumption that the 4 stroke trials bikes will go a long time.

  9. You have fields of those Bird choppers.

Once there are enough of them in place, around the world, the idea is to reverse the power grid, and feed them electricity. The will start pushing like an airplane prop, and over time speed up the earth's rotation, cooling things and reversing global warming!

  10. I have a facebook!...I can't remember if it is under trialsgirl or Ariel Winters though... B)

It is under "Ariel Winters" because your picture popped up when I joined. Now, if you can just teach Kim how to use a computer well enough, we can get him to join, as well.

  11. Likewise had mine (2008 model) a little over a year, with no issues at all. My drain plug is well protected by my skidplate, so not sure how one does damage to it. The plug and the hole in the skidplate are not in perfect alignment, so I could imagine the skidplate actually hitting/damaging the plug if off center enough, but not the case on mine.

  12. Funny thing building sections. I thought some of the sections looked quite spectacular, but on podium Fujinami complained about easy sections ;)

    -Jan

Always amazed when a guy, who didn't win, complains about sections being too easy. That is code for "I screwed up when I shouldn't have." Now they are waiting on someone else to do the same, but the sections are "too easy" for that to happen.

  13. just been out on my new beta today.... loved it all but the fact that the clutch seemed heavy compared to some other beta's i rode today. it made my arm ache after 3 hours. other than goin to the gym, does any one know what might be cure this? The bike is 6 mobths old with little riding and also has an ajp master cylinder instead of the beta factory fitted one. The clutch itself feels great just a tad heavy.

The "other Beta's" you rode, which felt better, probably all had the factory Beta master cyclinder, instead of the AJP unit, on yours. You have likely already answered your own question as to a cure.
