  1. apply traffic film remover neat to the chain ( and all hard to clean areas) wash off after a few minute's, let it drip dry for a while, then blather in wd40 or some other brand of water repelent spray. i normally do this with the rear wheel off the floor and spray into the chain tensioner as the chain passes through it.

    works for me.

  2. just picked this off the Bradford club website.............very sad loss.

    Gordon Thackary

was killed near Dob Park with another motorcycle rider in a head - on crash on Sunday morning. No other vehicles were involved.

Gordon Thackary observed at the Allan Jefferies Trials in the 80's and 90's. For those of you who cannot put a face to the name he was the motorcycle rider with no right arm. He observed at the YG on Saturday and was also a regular observer at Wetherby and Ripon events. No other vehicles were involved.

  3. i thought that these barrels were nicasil lined? if that is the case i would have thought it would be cheaper ( and better) to buy a 200 barrel and head. you could always sell your 125 stuff on ebay to ofset the cost.

  4. haynes manual, and the honda tool for removing the clutch nut and the oil spinner nut.

very easy engine to work on. i think from memory they used to break a bit of case of the inside near the kick start, but its been a few years.

  5. hit a pot hole unexpected, left hand and foot slipped, bent my thumb and smacked my knee on the foot pegs.. but all part of the game.

cant wait for my next day off work..

it could be a lot sooner than you think !.................only thing is it might be in casualty. ;)

  6. hours of polishing, but i wish i had'nt. the fins need constant attention to stop them furring up, some day i will get round to taking the top end off and painting black.

p.s. i know the case screws are a right mess, i could'nt wait to take the photos so i stuck the old ones in.

  7. i rum my ty 175 on castrol tts at 50:1 with no problems, but some people say even this is too lean?

as for dating, write to the customer service deptment at Yamaha uk with the frame and engine numbers, they should send you back a dating letter, good enough to get the bike road registered if you want.

my bike has got conventional spokes.

post some before and after pics so we can have a look.

    cheers

    paul.

  8. if the reeds are burnt, that would mean that there has been some ignition of the fuel in the crankcases, wouldn't it?

the more probable fault is within the carb itself. its best to disassemble the carb and remove all the jets prior to a full clean like this.

inspect by eye that all the small holes are clear. also check the clip on the needle, if this has broken the needle may be droping down in the slide.

let us know how you get on

  9. QUOTE (ianwilson @ Mar 12 2009, 07:35 AM)

The throttle cable runs through a sharp edged egine mount and cuts through the cable outer in no time at all. I fixed mine with a bit of inner tube supurglued over the edge.

The shock you get through the wrists if your triple clamp makes contact with the frame on full lock is unbeleivable. I fixed mine with a small bit of inner tube glued either side on the bottom clamp.

I have a problem with the clutch on my gas gas, can I fix that with a bit of inner tube and super glue?

    Sorry....Couldnt resist.......

likewise, my submarine is causing me some grief, would the innertube superglue remedy work here as well?

    sorry..........i could'nt resist either ! ;)

  10. So i thought i could kill two birds with one stone

you missed a trick there, you could have killed three birds with that stone. if you had positioned your slghtly rusty cast iron garden furniture just behind the exhaust it would have nicely prepared for a coat of hammerite.............you didnt think it through really did you? :D
