  1. I am competing in the nationals in chch and we are staying in chch for the weekend, we have already teed it up so I can have a go on pauls bike so I will see how it goes, thanks for the replies guys. Cheers Brad.
  2. Hi pete, I know the bike, you were at the kiakoura trial and the bike seemed to pull hard and go well. I am 5ft 10 or 11 and my wieght is about 62 or 62kg, I am used to the 125 2 stroke power delivery as my previous bike was a Honda CR125 so I think that a 125 would be great. It would most likely be pauls 08 125 on trademe for $6995, what do you guys reakon.
  3. Hey guys, I need some advice. Im 16 and am riding a 2001 rev 3 250 but I am looking to upgrade to the likes of a 2008 rev 3, I really want a 125 because it is said that the 125 makes you work the bike but others say that I will probably want a 250 in about a year due to aparent lack of power and me and the old man cannot afford to change bikes every year so I need a bike that I wont want to replace within a couple of years. Preferably I would like to stick with Beta as we know the dealer and he is such a great guy. would also consider an 09 evo but im unsure on the 125/250 thing so any advice would be awesome. Cheers Brad.
  4. Gas Gas may have the lightest wieght in the line up of trials bikes but they are basically made of cheese, Beta however is very reliable and don't brake as much as the gasser. Beta has a very nice handling aspect which makes it a great performer as opposed to the montesa but the montesa is very very reliable and I havn't heard of many problems with any of them 2t or 4t. My 2001 rev 3 is very competitive even with the likes of the 2007 sherco's and gassers, and my riding friends 1999 montesa is competitive with the likes of a 2005 sherco for example, although my Beta has far superior handling. If it was me buying an 8 year old bike I would go for the Beta for its handling or the Montesa for its reliability but definatly not a gasser of any sort. Cheers Brad. p.s. there may be a lot of people that get up me for saying the gassers aren't that great but when ever I ride past one of any age I see it at a trailer getting fixed or on the trailer ready to go home at lunch time because something has broken, so thats my opinion lol.
  5. My brother who is 10 has a 2007 Beta rev 80 which is a great bike to ride and I (16 years old) love to ride it instaed of my 250 lol. My brother is a big 10 year old and he can also ride my 250 no problems but he loves the 80 and probably wouldn't trade it for anything (except an evo). The 2008 Beta rev 80 has bigger diameter forks as well as a four piston front brake caliper as opposed to the 2 piston on the 2007 80 which seems a bit weak. The 80 engines have a surprising amount of torque but they also love to rev. A few weeks back I saw a 35 year old on a gasser 80 and he was doing intermediate stuff on it which amazed my as he is not exactly light. Also don't bother with an old 80, eg, Yamaha ty 80 as we did that with a mechatechno 80 and my brother just couldn't do anything on it but we bought the rev 80 and he just seemed to have more skill straight away as well as the confidence boost in a newer bike. Both bikes seem really good and pretty much bullet proof but if I was buying one I would get the Beta preferably a 2008 or newer as it has the bigger forks to accomadate for the 14 year olds that have to ride them. Cheers Brad, hope this helps. Oh yeah and our one has the full size wheels and the 3/4 size frame. which is the way to go.
  6. I run a tube in the rear of my 01 rev 3 and it has a tubeless tyre and rim and I run very low pressures and ride rocks a lot and I have never had a puncture. There also seems to be no disadvantage to running a tube in the rear unless of course you are worried about saving weight

    2008 Beta rev 3 125

Ok, so what are the engines like? Do they like to be rev'd? Also do they have much bottom end torque? Cheers Brad
  8. Hi guys, There is a 08 rev 3 125 for sale on trademe and I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice on weather or not it is a good deal and is there anything wrong with this model? Cheers Brad. The link is here: http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=319791723
  9. Hi guys, I am getting to the stage where I am starting to need to jump the bike around more, any ideas on how to set the forks up for this? and the shock? Cheers Brad.
  10. When i mix my fuel for the rev3 i mix 10 liters at a time and in that 10 L is 5L of 91 octane, 5L of Aviation fuel (AV gas) and 165ml of castrol TTS, We have never had to change a spark plug and it always runs beautifully, My Cr125 that I had before this we did the same thing except we put 300ml of TTS in the mix. I would highly recommend these mixes as they have treated me very, very well. Brad.
  11. Yes I will ride the bike before buying. I had a go on an evo 250 that is in our club and they are just sooooooo much better than the rev3 that i have, it is easier to do any hoping around and 1st gear is way more useable. I think evo is the way to go, if anyone knows of any evo 125's for sale in New Zealand I would be interested and i would also consider a 250 but would prefer a 125. Cheers Brad.
  12. Ok thanks for the advice, I think 125 would be better as well as i like to rev the bike and the 250 that i have doesnt really like to be reved, my brother has a rev 80 and i really like to ride that as it loves the revs. Which would be better in reliability aswell as performance though, a beta evo or sherco? PS i think that Jake could probably win on anything.
  13. Thanks for the replys, I think I will stick to beta as the dealer is the best I have ever done deals with. but for someone at the age of 16 would i be better to get a 125 or a 250, bear in mind that in New Zealand I do not need a 125 to compete in the national champs. I was also thinking maybe an evo would be better and well worth the money, any thoughts?
  14. Yeah I do notice the top end flatten out on the 01 beta but figured that beta would have that all sussed around the 08 model but i guess not, I also like the look of the sherco better than the beta. Thanks for the reply.
  15. Hey guys, I was just wondering if I could get any opinions on the sherco 250 and 125 around the 08 model as opposed to the beta rev3 250 and 125 or vise versa. At the moment I have a 2001 Beta rev3 250, would there be a big enough difference to consider buying newer bike? Cheers Brad
