  1. Does anyone know where my pictures have gone? My gallery seems to have disappeared as well. If i've upset someone then i apologise but it wasn't my intention to post pictures on here as free advertising and it wasn't me who raised the subject of the bike being for sale. ;)

    Roy.

  2. Hi Lewis and James,

She certainly is for sale, not much action at the moment though :D

    Hi Richy,

Yours looks sweet, i much prefer that colour scheme, what year is yours?

The clutch is much better after changing the oil for ATF fluid and giving the cable an extreme lubing (ooer!). There doesn't seem to be much improvement to be made on the cable run but it feels quite nice but has quite a small point of engagment. It's just about one finger operation but i do have quite big meat hooks and my clutch memories are all of eighties Fantics so this seems quite easy in comparison. ;)

If anyone knows of a 2000 or newer Beta, Gas Gas, Sherco, Montesa or Scorpa for sale at a reasonable price (not really allowed to spend more than

  3. I may be completely wrong here but the head looks almost identical to the old Fantics. Aren't they both (Moto) Minarelli engines with different badges?

Might be useful,.....or might be completely wrong!...just my thoughts

    Roy.

  4. More Aprilia questions :(

would anyone know how to adjust the front suspension on a climber please? i also forgot to count the clicks when playing with the rear adjuster so if anyone can tell me their settings as a start point i'd be very grateful. Also what's the recommended spark plug and how much and what type of oil do i need for the engine please?

Even better, would anyone have a manual for the 240? I'd happily pay for a photocopy.

I've slowly working my way through a list of small niggly jobs in between riding in circles in the garden. Have changed rear wheel bearings, rear brake pads, repaired front brake reservoir and changed brake fluid front and rear. Made a lever for the petrol tap (from an Ikea cupboard door knob) and fixed the leaks from the exhaust and replaced a missing bolt or two. Phew! Might get to go for a practice sometime.

    Thanks in advance,

    Roy.

  5. Thanks again guys. My local club is West Wilts and they are more schoolboy based but have a couple of adult trials and some Hare and Hounds too so i was wondering if i was missing out somewhere along the line.

Think i'll wait until i've done a couple of novice events before i think about getting racey though

Thanks for the club mentions though, i need to join a couple i reckon and they sound locallish.

    Roy :(

  6. Hi,

Um, trying to remember now,... i learnt to ride when iwas 6 on a Honda C90 that Dad had chopped about so that i could touch the ground, then an SS50 that was also adapted a bit, then a TY80 then a Whitehawk TY80, then a Fantic 50 followed by a Fantic 125 lightweight (125 in a 50 frame) and the last trials bike i had was a Fantic 200. At some point i was asked by Bob Golner to help him develop a trials bike from a Yamaha DT80 trail bike (a Cheetah?) and rode that for a while as well.

I "retired" from trials when i was 16 because the new monoshocks that were winning everything were too dear and then i discovered beer and girls. Should have stuck to the bikes really! ;)

Dad had a few pre 65ers in his time and i used to have a bash on those when he wasn't feeling up to it. Tiger cubs, Greeves, C15 etc.

Yes, i bought the Aprilia Climber that was on Ebay, though having looked at it i'm pretty sure it's the 240 not the 280 or 270 he advertised it as. I had a proper poke around today and it all seems to be OK but could do with a new chain and sprockets i reckon.

Feels strange getting back on a bike after 20 odd years but i can't wait to get back into it now.

See you all out there sometime? :(

    Roy.

  7. Thanks guys,

Off to get a few bits and some fuel tomorrow :(

I've gotten used to buying super unleaded for the car but they've just closed the local Texaco and the next station that sells SUL is a 15 mile round trip. Does it make that much difference on the higher octane and if so is it alright to use an octane booster (use it in the car if i get caught between SUL pumps) with 2 stroke mix?

70:1 sounds very lean but i'm happy to trust you guys. I think my old Fantics took a 50:1 mix, how come they run so lean these days?

    Roy.

  8. Apologies for jumping in here but it is about an Aprilia climber.

Without wanting to sound like too much of a numpty, could you tell me what ratio fuel mix you run your climber on please?

I've just bought one but no manual and the guy reckoned he used 25:1 which sounds a bit rich to me! Any other info would be greatly appreciated as well, ie. what engine/gearbox oil to use, a wiring diagram for the lights, what brake fluid to use, anything really! I'd quite happily pay for a copy of your manual if you have one.

    Many thanks,

Roy (getting down to his last drops of fuel in the tank) :(

  9. Hi James,

I'm running on a bit of a budget at the moment so have bought an old (1994) Aprilia Climber 270. The thinking is that if i do a few trials and decide that i'm not cut out for it anymore then i won't have lost too much money - and if i do love it then i'll be looking for something a bit newer soon.

My last bike was a Fantic 200 twinshock in 1985 - it was when the first single shockers were released and a Yamaha TY250 mono was virtually unbeatable against the twinshocks. It looks like things have moved on a bit since then!

What are you riding? I used to compete nationally and did a fair few trials down your way.

    Roy.

  10. Hello everybody,

Just starting to get back into trials (well, i've just bought an old bike) and came across your lovely site.

I used to compete in schoolboy trials until i was 15 and now *ahem* 20 years later i've realised what i've been missing. Although it's a bit painful not having Dad pay for it anymore! :(

I live in Devizes in Wiltshire so would welcome any local information about clubs and practice grounds in this area in fact any hints and tips at all.

    Thanks in advance,

    Roy.
