  1. Ah! That's a bugger. I found the quote on the TMX bike test:-

"Thicker clutch diaphram spring. The new spring (from 1.5mm to 1.7mm) allows more wear tolerance of the clutch plates without it slipping. Clutch pack height is now not quite as important as before."

Waiting to hear back from GG UK as to what they recommend.

    Cheers,

    Roy.

  2. Broke my rear practising in the garden recently ;) but managed to bodge it by Aralditing a piece of flexible perspex type stuff across the crack underneath then "plastic welding" (i.e. melting) around the edges with the fat tip on my soldering iron. It sure as hell don't look very pretty but seems to be holding.

The fumes coming off it were probably best not inhaled though

  3. Does anyone know whether the clutch pack from the 06's are a straight fit for earlier machines? I need a new pack for my 04 but i'm sure i read that the 06 clutches were less fussy about the width of the pack and gave less noise.

    Thanks in advance,

    Roy.

  4. Hi Jetset,

Not sure how much you were looking to spend but I think it would be worth the effort of stripping everything off the bike to get a decent finish. It's reasonably easy to do and as long as you take pictures and/or draw diagrams of any complicated bits it should be fairly easy to put back together too. Up to you of course but i think it would look terrible if you tried to paint it with everything else in situ. :)

It would also be a good chance to check and regrease or replace the swinging arm, rear shock and headset bearings and check for any cracks or wear on the frame and components.

It might mean you find more things that need repairing or replacing but you would then have the satisfaction and peace of mind knowing that it had all been done right.

If you strip it down then you can get the frame blasted for perfect paint removal and maybe a nice powder coating to refinish it. Or, to save a bit of money use Nitromors all purpose to strip it, plenty of rubbing down then paint it yourself.

    HTH,

    Roy.

P.S. Is that an STI in the background? :)

  5. Ahh yes, i was "experimenting" with my lever positioning or more likely i'd just fallen off and didn't have me Dad to twist it back round :D

I was wondering where those videos were shot on your site. That would freak 'em out if they found tyre tracks over their machinery on a Monday morning.

I remember that a couple of the older lads rode out over the seaweed covered rocks at low tide to the little lighthouse you can see if you look left going into Wales then nearly lost their bikes underwater trying to get back before the tide. Prolly get arrested for it these days ;)

  6. After making a mess of this recently i can now tell you how i finally managed to do it.

Open an account at Putfile or similar (only takes minutes) and upload your piccys. Once uploaded, click on the picture you want to post and open it and then right click on the picture to get the properties. Triple click on the Address (URL) to highlight it and right click again to copy this.

Start your new post in TC and to insert a picture click on the IMG button above the text box. Paste the Putfile address in here, click OK and that should do it.

Probably a much simpler way but you'll have to wait for someone clever to come along and show you. ;)

    HTH,

    Roy. :D

  7. Might interest someone:-

I'd only borrowed it for a trial or two. I seem to remeber that it wasn't a bad bike at all but not quite as nice as the Fantics.

I DO remember wearing those bloody boots though, i think they were designed for walking on sea beds :chairfall:

    Pictures are coming, honest!

  8. I've used the Scoobynet group buys a couple of times Andy and was only thinking the other day that it would be a good idea on here for trials bits. I'm sure a bit of mutual support for and from some of the sponsors could be beneficial all round.

    Count me as interested. <_<

    Roy.

  9. I got this for christmas and thought the pictures were brilliant, could do with an English proofreader though :D

Did anyone else spot themselves in the crowd at Hawkstone or any other round for that matter? I reckon i've had my 15 nanoseconds of fame as i'm also in the WTC 2005 video for about three frames of footage.

    Roy.

  10. Sorry can't help with the engine but i managed to get some brand new, old stock gearbox spares for a 1984 242 from Sandifords. Might be worth getting in touch?

  11. Hi Rob,

It looks identical to the one on my Montesa Cota 242 and mine split on the folds too. I tried numerous places to get a replacement without any luck and ended up using clear araldite, which stays flexible, to seal the splits.

Someone did suggest asking in a specialist washing machine/hoover repair shop.

    HTH

    Roy.

  12. I know what you're saying there Lew - it was just the position we were standing in though, honest! - or did Kate have the camera at that point?.......hang on......well i...... ;)

She was very impressed with all the young men in tight lycra and has been telling all her single friends to get along to a trial so if you suddenly get girls goosing you in a section you'll know why. ;) I'm sticking to the big and baggy style of clothing at my size though and save the lycra for the bedroom

    Roy.

  13. Some are a bit blurry and dark, it was tricky to get a good picture on "auto" must learn how to use the camera at some point.

I've got a couple of short video clips but nowhere to upload them - unless someone can host them for me?

I thought the whole weekend was superb despite getting dragged off shopping on Saturday afternoon. Sorry not to have made it to the tent guys, it sounds like it was quite a night. ;)

    Roy.

  14. As per title. "We" (read, my wife) have made an executive decision to stay in a cosy hotel with swimming pool, sauna, jacuzzi, etc. etc. on the Saturday night.......

...so have a camping pass up for grabs. I'm not expecting anything for it, i just thought somene might be able to make use of it.

If you get in touch with your address i'll post it out asap.

    Cheers,

    Roy.

P.S. I was looking for ward to sweating out my hangover on the Sunday, but now you'll spot me as the well rested one smelling of chlorine. :wall:
