  1. I know I'm just starting out in this trials game (and assuredly don't ride/practice as much as I should or could) but wow, I've got a long way to go before my riding skills don't mask, or I can feel, the difference of 1 psi
  2. Just a thought, an enduro friend uses mousse in his wheels, are there mousses designed for trials application?
  3. Hello timp, I am very new to this game - probably less than 10 hours of riding - so interested in why 7 psi is useless. I've referred to the owner's manual for recommended tyre pressures, am I right in thinking you consider them too high?
  4. As is said "Ignorance is bliss". I bought IRC tube front, tubeless rear without knowing about this problem. Fortunately on my Scorpa SY250 it hasn't been a problem, but then I use 0.4bar front and 0.5bar (about 7psi) rear. I don't know if this is relevant... the rims, when I took off the old tyres, were so heavily corroded I had to use a combination of wire brush on a drill and a power file to remove it. Maybe this attention to the surface condition of the rim is contributory?

  6. (25) Years ago on a Suzuki LT250R I used an 'of the day' chain wax - dirt stuck to it and formed a grinding paste! I think all chain lubes are a compromise between lubrication and dirt retention. There's not many people who disagree that a Scottoiler is good on road bikes; for me it is it a 'no-brainer' fitment. So, when I bought a trials bike and thought about chain lube I went straight for the blue scottoil oil. But as the typical trials bike usage is only a few miles (OK not SSDT) at very low speed, I might give a dry lube a try - just as long as water doesn't wash it off.
  7. Three years! I'm not normally that indecisive, but I've finally taken the plunge. I now have a 2005 Scorpa SY 250 - from Highland Leisure, thank you b40rt and to Garry at Highland Leisure. Have been using it in the garden and watching a few YouTube videos on basic riding skills. Compared to road bikes, the Scorpa makes low speed maneuvers easier, it is most definitely NOT easy though. Will be taking a few pointers from a trials & enduro riding friend and also go along to the Bon Accord Motorcycle Club's Trials practice evening. One 'alien' bit is cornering, on a road bike you dip the inside shoulder into the bend! Hope I don't forget which bike I'm on. Thanks for the encouragement and advice.

  10. New to trials, new to trials bikes, new to sprung loaded chain tensioners. With the bike on a stand, rear wheel off the ground, 1st gear engaged and engine ticking over (to lube the chain) I noticed, what to me, seems like too much up-down movement of the sprung loaded chain tensioner. Should it jump up and down wildly like a 70's head banger's head? If not, how do I stop it? The chain is well lubed and without any apparent tight spots. New spring? new pad? new chain? or is it something to do with engine pulses? Appreciate your opinions / help. Regards Oh, the bike is an SY250 2T
  11. Thanks for quick reply. Could be, but as I said, I new to this and don't have a scooby. It looks just like a valve stem (diameter, threaded) but about 25mm long and without a valve cap. It diametrically opposite the valve stem. I know a pic would be obvious, but I don't have the bike in my possession yet

  13. Obviously not, but what is the second one? Just bought a 2005 SY250. Never had a trials bike before so If a search doesn't reveal an answer I apologise in advance for what might seem obvious to the more experienced.
