Many years ago you could get a geared (a bevel gear) throttle but from memory it was a one to one ratio if one could make a driven "gear" or set of "pulley" wheels in a magic box between the handle bar and the carb??? driven pulley could be a cam even for eg. slow bottom end switch top end These type of throttle are available with limiting factor being the smallest "diameter" is determined by the bar dia. I suppose there are whizz kids out there who could make a programmeable fly by wireless transducer to activate throttle slide...how many would one sell though?
I have no idea what any of this means, but reckon I need a whizz kid to make me one of them wireless tranducer thingys (i'm a sucker for a gadget)
Oh and by the way after all the help ive had over the last couple of weeks I did the decent thing and signed up to be a site supporter, I figured its the least I could do as there are some decent guys on here that dont mind helping a noob with his sill questions.
I know that the black is slow and that the white is fast..........but mine is silver metal one on a beta 270 2006?
I have purchased (but not fitted) a new black slow one thinking that it may make a differnce and it was only a few quid but when I look at it it seems exactly the same as my existing metal one, both only do a 1/4 turn when the cable is attached, can someone tell me exactly how the slow action throttle works? I presumed that you would have to turn it more to get the full power?
If so would I be right in thinking that my existing metal one is also a slow action so no point in swaping them?
And lastly is there any other way of making it even slower action?
I went out yesterday for the first time properly and spent the afternoon hanging on for for my life, it seems to fly away with me and I found it really hard to just potter round slowy (great for thrashing up and down the field though, but this is not why I bought a trials bike)
ive checked and it still has the flywheel weight fitted so now Im thinking unless I can slow it any other way? then I might be better to sell it and get a 125/200
If you fancy driving down to Newport, South Wales I am happy to show you my practice ground and pass on my limited techniques. It would get you started.
I have two places to go. One has rocks, slopes and open ground or a woodland with mud, roots, streams and hills.
I'm two hours from you but if you had a day set aside you would get four solid hours riding and travelling included and be home for tea and cakes!
Sounds good, I would really appreciate that,
let me know next time your out and I will try and tag along
just bought a 2006 rev-3 270 as my first bike, I have never ridden any kind of motorbike before and was absolutly shocked by what this can do with a tiny flick of the wrist, basicly it through me straight off the back and smashed into the van of the fella who was selling it (see post in general forum)
So anyway my q's are,
Slow action throttle - Does it make much difference? Is there anything else that I could do to make the bike a little more learner friendly?
Maintenance - I have no idea where to start, I kinda thought that I would hose it down after each session and take it in for a service once a year for a service, the fella who sold it laughed and started telling me of all the things that need doing after each ride or after a couple of rides and it sounds quite a lot,
What is your routine for the bike before and after each ride?
What oils do you use and how often?
What fuel mix? He told me 80ml of oil in 5L of fuel but I worked it out from the spec found on tinternet that it should be more like 150ml in 5L, any thoughts?
And what other routine maintenance do you carry out and at what intervals?
Where can I find instructions/diagrams to follow these procedures? I use E60.net as a car forum and they have a 'how to DIY' section, is there any thing like that for trials?
So today I have collected my new bike, a 2006 Beta Rev-3 270 and this is how it went...
I have never ridden a motorbike of any sort so when the fella who was selling it said here have a go, I explained this to him but me being me thought, what the hell, how hard can it be?
So under his not so carefull instruction I hopped on, put it into gear, gave it some revs, let out the clutch................flipped onto back wheel then BANG, stacked it straight into the side of the fellas van
As you can imagine I was ****ting myself and the falla just stood there with a 'what the **** just happened' look on his face
So after many appologies and me calming down I adventually bought the bike (I thought it would be rude not to)
On a positive note I think my trials days can only get better from here on
Montesa or Beta will be the best bet for a cheap old bike. Scorpa is flimsy easily damaged when dropped, Sherco never sound nice when old and early models had crank issues. Gas Gas early pros were trouble.
£1000 will buy something old, but £1500 should but something like an 07-08 model and £500 can be easily spent on an old nail of a bike if you buy cheap.
When you say early Gas Gas pros were trouble, how early do you mean? is an 02/03 going to be trouble?
thanks for the replys guys, some interesting points to think about.
Where else is a decent place to look for bikes, ive looked on here and ebay, auto/biketrader doesnt have much and seem expensive, am I missing anywhere else thats worth a look?
