Guys,
i have recently got an 08 Rev 3 250. There is lots I like about it, but i do have all the symptoms of 'Beta clutch drag'.
I am going to perform the clutch mod as detailed in this post, but I have a couple of points id like help with:-
The bike is one owner and i believe on its original clutch. I wasny told it had been replaced at point of sale.
There isnt any clutch slip etc at the moment, so is it worht me just buying a new set of friction plates and modding them straight from the box? That way they are clean and easy to work on in spare moments. Plus if its nice out, I can go and play in the quarry! If so, what brand of plates should i order? Are they all equal? Should i go direct to Beta UK, or are pattern/after market parts better in price or performance?
As I will have to open the clutch cover, is it just one gasket I need to order? And will it dry seal ok, or will i need sealant?
I know they may seem trivial questions, but with limited play time, id like to get everything I need and just not fall at a simple hurdle when i havnt got the correct parts. Prior Preparation and Planning Prevents P&*^ Poor Performance....i hope!
Also, my bike has Grimeca brake and clutch master cylinders, am i right in thinking that AJP type wont fit?
many thanks

Hi All,
I have raced both 125 and 250 2T trackbikes in the past. A honda RS125 produces about 44bhp from its 125cc and the 250 (which is pretty much 2x 125s on the same crank) makes about 85bhp. Despite running high octane blue AVGAS and Castrol 747 oil, i would change piston rings after every meeting, and piston kit every 3 outings. ( I wasnt married at the time!). This helicopter style maintenance was the only way to not blow your motor, and although Ive been out of racing for a few years i cant think that racers do anything different currently, even with current materials advances.
I appreciate that a trials bike doesnt run WOT for anything like the percentage of time that my track bikes did, and also that the specific power output is a lot lower.
So, I was wondering when i should swap a piston ring or a top end service in my Beta Rev3 250 08. Does anyone have any experience of motor strip after several years?

Hi All,
im v new to trials with Beta 2T 250. So far its only been riden in circles in the yard. However this activity so captivated my 15 yr old daughter, that she also had a go, and after previously only riding a mini moto, was rather competent. So now im being badgered for a bike for her.
I have read in the 'ladies forum' abou the fun being had on 80's, but they seem thin on the ground. From my rudimentary viewings of trials 80's they seem to have a tuned pipe exhaust system, ie a divergent-convergent cone, much like a racing MX bike or a Honda RS125 i raced previously. This leads me to believe that they wil be peaky in power deliery, not something i think my daughter will enjoy....
I know if you restrict airflow, the craziest peaky motor can be tamed, and also that a flywheel weight can also help.
Would a 125 trials with a restricted carb opening and flywheel weight be 'softer' than a rabid 80? Is there a physical size difference between an 80 and a 125?
Does anyone have any experience of small juniors on a variety of different bikes?
many thanks

Hi All,
Im in the process of setting up my 08 Beta Rev 3 250. Im looking for advice regarding how much preload and damping to dial in. Im a novice and i weigh about 85kg plus my kit.
Does the standard damping and spring offer enough adjustment for a man of my weight, or will I have to change things?
I have ried searching the forum with without success. The search engine doesnt seem to like words of 3 or less letters, so 'Rev' and '3' is a bit of a non starter!
many thanks

Guys, thank you for your help. Trials is a really specific discipline that seems to have my normal ideas of bike set-up a little confused. I will abandon sag, and search for suspension and shock set up. Im about 87kg in my riding kit, so i will search springs too...
thanks

Ok, thats great, thank you!
I have searched the forum for info on 'static sag' but it doesnt seem to figure very much. My MTBs and road bikes seem rather keen on that as the cornerstone of set-up. Does anyone have any idea what sort of static sag i should be looking for?
thanks

Hi All, Im new to the forum, although I have been lurking in the background
reading and learning.
As part of my ongoing midlife crisis I have bought myself an '08 Beta Rev 3 250. I have only ridden it for a few minutes so far....
If i apply the front brake and try and rock the bike backwards and forwards, there is noticable movement. At first i thought it was headset bearings, but the movement is at the front disc - hub interface. The disc is solid with no carrier, and sits bolted to the hub with some star type washers to mae it semi-floating i assume. Is this movement normal? Im brand new to trials, but none of my road or track bikes have exhibited this play. Nor do my disc equipped MTBs.
Also the clutch and front brake lever seem to have quite a lot of play in them. If i grab the ball-tip, then i can waggle the lever up and down about 15mm, yet the action when i pull the lever in its correct plane to actuate the master cyl is play free. Are the levers bushed so they dont wear on the pivot pin? Am i worrying about nothing? It just seems to represent a lack of precision, as if the M/C casting is too wide, or the lever too narrow (or worn).
This may well be the first of a long stream of questions, as i openly admit I know very little about trials....
thanks
Ian
