  1. cleaned carb etc,put fresh petrol in...started 3rd kick this morn without twisting throttle.Cant realy moan about that.(my old`92 gasser still starts 1st kick EVERY time!I think i`ve been spoilt).Tried to start the sherco after leaving it stopped for half an hour and the bugger wouldnt start without the choke!!.The carb is definatly clean, done the compressed air etc.I`l play about with the mixture screw and see if things improve,

    Thanks for the help.

Oh yes RTURNER 51,i did get it from NTB.Bet you glad you didnt eh??

Seriously though, its in mint condition, totaly un-marked,just doesnt start like me old gasser!!

  2. I`VE JUST BOUGHT AN `04 290,AND HAVING PROBLEMS STARTING ;) (HOT AND COLD)I TOOK AIR FILTER OUT-LOOKS LIKE NEW,TOOK CARB OFF-LOVELY AND CLEAN,ONLY TING I COULD SEE WRONG IS THE BRASS FITTING IN THE CENTER OF THE CARB(WHERE THE NEEDLE GOES IN)hAS HAD THE FRONT MACHINED AWAY,SO INSTEAD OF BEING ROUND(LOOKING DOWN THROUGH THE SLIDER BORE)THERE IS ONLY HALF OF IT THERE.iS THIS NORMAL??iF NOT,WHATS GOIN ON?? :(

ANY HELP ON GETTING IT TO START BETTER WOULD BE MUCH APPRECIATED

  3. hey magic matt, those needle rollers...cant tell you how much they were `cos i sneakily got them through work from a bearing dealer, but i remember they are a non-standard item, whicm means if you want complete renewal, you have to go to gasgas. The inner bush is smller than the std item so that it takes a 6mm(or is it 8mm?)bolt.Mine(inner bush) wernt that worn so i binned the std inners and used the original ones. :marky

  5. Its fixed :(;) .The head and barrel fit together to make the seal.(Primary seal)The oring is a secondary seal to stop any stray gasses escaping.(got that inf from gasgas)I lapped the head and barrel faces, then dumped the inner oring and replace with flexible gasket sealer ;) Acording to gasgas the pressur of water is 12 psi or less,so it will do the job,in fact it is doing the job, been out on it for about15 hours(not all at once).Running like a new`un :o

    total cost

  6. MAKE SURE YOU TIGHTEN THE WHEEL SPINDLE NUT BEFORE YOU TIGHTEN THE CLAMP SCREWS.I ONCE TIGHTENED THE CLAMP SCREWS FIRST ON MY GASSER AND IT PULLED THE FORKS OUT OF LINE.

TO CHECK,LOOSEN THE CLAMP SCREWS,THEN BOUNC THE FORKS A FEW TIMES AND THEY SHOULD GO TO THEIR NATURAL POSITION.

  7. bikespace,we`re on the same wavelengh :D .I though of adding a couple of those lockable dolly wheels on the backend so it can stand on its end and not roll away from the wall. The lights and number plate could easily be mounted on a box section frame (u-shaped with square corners)This would slide into slightly bigger section, which would be mounted just inside the wheels, and nip up with bolts or hand wheels, buti agree with hughsey about the state of some trailers,in fact i can think of at least 2 of my mates have no lights at all!

I`m not that concerned about spring loading the platform,i thought of just lining it with some thick rubber or similar.

This is my project this summer,i work for an engineering firm so luckily a can takle this quite easily( err not mass production though, just do a bit when the gaffers not looking!)

PS if any manufacturers are reading this, when you have made a few,me bikespace and hughsey will gladly accept a free trailer each for giving youn this unique opportunity to make lots of dosh!! :D:D:D:beer:

  8. hughesy, that just what i`m looking for.If you could get any close-ups,that would be great. :D:blink:

p.s.Dont like vans, tried getting rid of the missus but not succeded yet.

Maybe if everyone came to my place and parked their trailers......

  9. thanks for the pics, but they are not the ones i`m looking for.The bike actualy rides on its sump,so if any body has a pic, please post it.The reply about the bike not towing as well because of this,is a point i hadnt considered, but is something i will bear in mind.

I made the trailer my self by welding a frame for the bikes to sit on ,onto an old "A" frame with mini wheels on,its too heavy to lift on its side on my own(dont think the wife would help!).With the ride on sump type,i thought i could just pick it up at the tow bar end and lift it right up and just lean it against the garage wall.

    cheers.

  10. Has any of you lot got one of those trailers where the bike sits on its sump over the axle, and the front wheel sits ina slot on the a frame? My missus is giving me grief for parking my trailer out side the house,i think if i modify it,it will be smaller and lighter and will fit in me garage. If someone could post a pic, that would be great.

    Thanks

  11. i once had to make a tool for this purpose to drive in the seals on my paoli upside downies.it was easy for me because i had acces to a lathe.if you can get hold of a piece of plastic or nylon (ebay?)dril a hole through it the same size as the chrome slidy bit,saw it in half, then put the 2 pieces either side of the afore mentioned slidy bit and tap the seals home.

If you mean the small drain screw, they should come out no problem with an allen key.

  12. all of what you say makes a lot of sense, the o ring is there for a reason, but if,as you say the inner seal is dodgy, isnt the next "barrier" the seal between the head and barrel which is 2 precision machined faces clamped together to form a gas tight seal??

    I`l get round the problem somehow,thanks again fellow trials riders,have a good 2006.;):hyper:

  13. :D

the inner o ring groove on the barrel of my 1997 gasser has a problem. The out side edge of the groove has been broken of in 3 places.each of the gaps is a bout 10mm wide. Can you lot out there give me some ideas? is it a new barrel or will the o ring still seal?

    cheers, steve

  14. hi,yes i used a bore gauge and a mike.do you know what the clearence between a piston and bore which are new should be?I`ve re measured and the piston is oval.I rekon i will be able to manage with a new piston
