  1. How can I tell if fuel is getting to hot? Now that you say, the last ride we went on, we had rode 6km home after riding trials. High gear, half-three quarter throttle the whole way, and his plastic heat guard on mufffler was melting, and seat plastic has two bubbles from the heat. Why did the exhaust get so hot? We've made this same scenario/ride many times. Separate issues?
  2. Ok, I figured it was there for a reason! :-) I'll get a new bearing ordered and toss it back in. Thanks!
  3. My son rides a 04 2.9 Sherco. On hot days in the summer, at trials events, after riding an hour or more, sometimes (randomly), if he turns it off, it won't restart. It seems nothing will get it restarted other than waiting about 15-20 min. Is this common? Is there a fix? Thanks mates!
  4. Hey mates, my 17 year old son rides an 04 Sherco. (He weighs 225lb / 16 stone / 102 kg, without clothes/gear). We drained and filled the front forks yesterday, used 270cc 10wt on both sides. On the left (USA drivers) side, when putting the drain bolt back in, it felt like it was threading into something else other than the housing itself. (maybe dampner?) It DIDN'T feel that way on the right side. Is it supposed to? Do we need to disassemble the right side and thread it into something? By looking at parts diagram, his bike has springs in both sides. Should we replace them both? Would it bring back some spring and life to the front end? Is there a better newer spring upgrade we can install? His rear end sags quite a lot with him on it. We have turned adjuster nut almost to top as tight as it will go. The rear spring is yellow. Do they make different rate rear springs? Would it help or make sense to have the rear rear shock rebuilt? If so, where can I have this done in the USA? And approx how much should it cost? (Looking at possibly getting my rear shock rebuilt as well on my 2002 Beta Rev 3). Thanks!
  5. Trying to save weight, (read=I forgot to re-install) I didn't put the tube spacer between the front bearings when putting the front tire back together. Obviously I need to buy another $8 (USA) bearing to put it in. It seems to me its just there to make sure you have bearings seated all the way, which I do. BUT, once all back together, I tightened everything back up, and the front tire would hardly spin. We loosed the main axle bolt a bit, and its back to normal. What am I missing? Thanks!
  6. Well, I did the unimaginable.... yep, I rode a newer bike. (we all make mistakes). My Dad got an 11 beta evo, and it is SO nice. I ride int (USA), and I am not good enough to hop my front tire (At least I didn't think I was). I got on his bike and try it, and can actually hop pretty good! I can honestly say I would get way less points in trials, and with the wife if I bought an evo. So yesterday we tore my front end apart, cleaned her up, put 5wt back in per specs, (I weigh 170lb / 77kg / 12.5 stone) and I really hoped for a newish feeling front end. Nope, feels the same. :-( Feels soft, I can bottom it out off a small jump or hard wheelie landing, and has little spring to it. My bike is not in newish condition, but not been destroyed either. I have been reading a lot on front susp, and read I probably should replace my front spring as its old and probably wore out. Is there newer springs that will make my bike closer to the feel and springey-ness of the fancy-shiny-evo? Then there is the rear. I have never thought my rear susp was lacking... until now. I feel its adjusted where it needs to be. Should I get the shock rebuilt? How much should this cost in the USA? I know I won't spend $700+ on a fancy new rear shock, as I don't see it helping re-sale value much at all, and I am eventually going to upgrade to an evo anyway. (But maybe a rebuild won't cost much?) Thanks for all your help! P.S. In case your wondering, I used 60mm measurement on right side and stroked all the air out to get that measurement, and 120mm on the left side, with no spring in it. Both sides fully compressed.
  7. This is like my new owners manual! It goes in, "Troubleshooting" section!
  8. Nice job on the paint! Are you going to paint the front two connecting frame bars? (I'm sure that isn't the official name) I always thought they would look good in a semigloss black, or in a fender matching beta red. I have a Rev 3, I hope you will paint them so I can see what it looks like!
  9. Cool map! I just added Badlands offroad park in Attica, IN
  10. We are in Northern Indiana, USA, and we get our share of mud also. I would love to ride a 200, 250 and 290, and will ask if I ever see the chance! (which I likely will it our first event, as its a bigger two day event)
  11. We aren't tall guys. I often feel stretched out on my rev 3. How tall are? So your ok with a 2010+?? Sorry for the all the questions! This isn't me arguing, this is me trying to suck all I can from your knowledge!
  12. Good to know, I didn't know that.
  13. Thanks to all for all the info! Much appreciated! Does anyone have any input on how much difference there is from a 250 evo to a 290 evo? Is the 290 harder to start? Is it more responsive or twitchy? My dad and I both like that smooth power that starts down low. I feel that my 2002 beta rev 3 270 is like a diesel freight train. We are both about 5'9" and both weigh around 170-175. Another question, how much more would you be willing to pay to have an 09+ evo versus an 07/08 rev 3?
  14. Thanks for the input! What was the difference in how they rode? What size bikes were they, and how easy did each one start?
  15. My Dad and I both are looking to upgrade our current rides. He has a 97 250 beta techno, and I ride an 02 Beta rev 3 270. He is currently looking at a 2007 beta. I have just started my research. I have awhile before I make my purchase. We both like how our bikes have so much torque and are smooth.... not jumpy. He rides nov/int and I ride int/sp. Is there a timeline somewhere that shows what model years were what? I have read that Beta jumps around from year to year making one bike for the clubman, and the next year for the world class rider. What years should us clubman look for and what year should we avoid? I think I will be looking at bikes in the 07-2011 range. Whats the diffs? What will be the big advantage over the 07+ bikes vs our current bikes? (example, the biggest difference between his and mine, his front feels very heavy) Lastly, I know I'm posting in the Beta section, but is there any other bike we should consider? In our area the Beta and Sherco are by far the most common. (other than gasgas, but both of us are not to excited about those). Thanks for any, and all input!
  16. How is the long term review/report on these?
