  1. I just did Dan's clutch fix on my 2011 2t 250 Evo, and added a small washer between the stock washer and the post. This reduces the spring preload, and makes a lighter clutch. I have NO slipping, even in high gear. I may add another washer and see what that does. The washer measures approx 10-11mm OD, and is snug on bolt, which I believe is a 6mm ID. I don't know thickness, but would guess about 1mm. This picture shows stock set-up on left with new washer in front of it, new setup in the middle, and the right is the washer off my dad's 2011 Evo 4t 300. We think his was a factory team bike. CLUTCH FEELS FANTASTIC! Mostly because it's not dragging anymore, and is consistent.
  2. Dan, thank you for the write up! My bike is totally different, in an awesome way! I added a small washer, with an ID the size of bolt (I believe 6mm), and the OD was approx 10-11mm, so it fits inside spring. The red stepped washer is off my dad's 2011 evo 4t 300. I think his bike is a "factory team" bike. I tried to get slipping in high gear by pulling clutch in, reving her up and popping clutch (at rolling speed). But she grabbed every time. It feels a bit lighter, but not crazy dramatic. I may add another washer, but I believe that will require a lower profile bolt. I'll report back if I ever get slippage.
  3. Also, is it important that everything stay facing the same direction, and go back in, in the exact same order it came out? I assume so, but didn't know for sure. Thanks!
  4. I agree, if we can reduce clutch effort, then by all means, lets do it. My Rev 3 that I bought off of Mason DeBolt in Michigan had a super nice clutch. I'm wondering if maybe firstgear had cleaned it up for him? Now my Evo clutch seems very lacking, and sporadic! I am cleaning up my 2011 250 EVO clutch plates tomorrow, and would love to pick up the correct size shims today. Anybody have anymore input on this? Shim thickness, OD, and ID sizes? I assume the shim/washer goes on the post side? The pic of the machined piece above makes me think maybe I am wrong in putting it on the post side of the spring. Thanks, Jason
  5. Anybody have any experience with using washers for shims? I am doing the clutch fix tomorrow, and want a lighter clutch, but don't want to leave two springs out. I would love to buy the washers today before tearing the bike apart. What size washers do I need? I am doing this to my 11 evo 250 2t. Also, we may do my Dads 11 evo 300 4t. Thanks!
  6. Looking forward to doing this mod soon, but have another question. I have been told that the oil level makes a big difference. Any truth to this? I have not experimented at all. I just bough a 2011 Evo 250 2t. My sighht glass is completely covered with oil. I need to lean bike down a good bit to side before I see air. Manual calls for 550cc. I have a beta guy (who I trust) say to run around 450cc. He said ideal is half way up sight glass. Thoughts? (I realized oil level won't fix the problem, and I am doing the clutch mod fix here in a few weeks on my day off. Thanks for the great write up!)
  7. Forgot to post, I currently ride a 2002 Beta Rev 3 270.
  8. Guys, I have been looking for a 250 evo. My dad bought a used 11 250, and it rides amazing! I posted on a few sites that I am looking for a 250, and not a bigger bike. Had a guy say he has a 300 super smooth.... and claims it rides just like a 250. True? BTW, I only ride INT here in the states. Also, what year did the SS come out? Is there a breakdown somewhere of the different years on the Evo's that shows the differences between them? (something more detailed than the beta site). Thanks to all!

Hoping mates that have ridden both can reply!

    Evo 250 Or 290

Anybody else have anymore input? I live in the USA, and I have the opposite problem of the Orig Poster. My dad has 2011 evo in the 250 flavor, and I absolutely love it. I know that is what I want, Problem is, I can't seem to find one. I currently ride a 2002 Beta rev 3 270. I also, only ride intermediate, and don't see me going past sportsman in the couple years I own this bike. There seems to be the occasional beta evo 290 or 300 pop up for sale. What is the diff between the 290 and 300? Is there a big from the 250 up to the bigger bikes?
  11. Help!!! I have an 02 Beta Rev 3, and the rear brake line runs from the master cylinder, up over air tube (directly under seat), then back down, (narrowly missing the exhaust), then it runs down and back towards the rear, directly under the shock reservoir. Mine is a braided line (factory??) and barely rubs the the bottom of the rear shock reservoir, and now has a leak. I am in the USA, and nobody has one in stock, but can order it for $98. I can have one made for around $60, so that is the route I am going.... unless your wisdom tells me other wise.... Here are my questions: 1. Since I am replacing the line, should I go with a smaller diameter line? The local road/dirt bike shop (not trials) says it makes the brakes more responsive, because less fluid needs pushed to actuate the pistons. I have owned the bike for about 9 months, and the brakes have always felt soft/weak/spongy. I now wonder if maybe the line was weak and was expanding? Thoughts? 2. Mike at the Tryals Shop has an 03,04,and 05 Rev 3, and he said those run UNDER the air tube, but really close to exhaust. Am I better off going this route? If so, now the concern is, how do I get that line made? Since I don't have a "take off" to take into shop. Obviously I can take my line in, and they can reproduce exact fittings, angles, etc to remake mine. (although I will probably go about 1" longer so it's not so tight by shock reservoir. (I suppose I could take bike in to make shorter one, but it's -24 F with windchill. I'm not overly joyed about loading onto open trailer and hauling in. Plus I am sure they would need to be paid for the extra time. Thanks to all for any and all input! I figure somebody has been down this road, and can tell me what they did and the results.... at least I hope. :-)
  12. My Beta does that in 1st gear!
  13. That's what I wondered. I was hoping someone would say first gear was for trials, and useless for street, and the rest were spaced so far apart that the upper gears made it road worthy. I think maybe I'm better off looking at another bike to be the dual sport I want. Something that is fun and enjoyable on the road, and is at least acceptable off road. Any recommendations? Remember, I'm in the USA. Thanks Mate's!
  14. How fast can they go? I rode one over twenty years ago, I don't remember a thing about it.
  15. I ride beta rev 3 right now, but saw an old kawasaki 175 enduro bike the other day at a friends house, and ever since I have been wondering if its even possible to get a TY and make it a dual purpose bike? Something I could ride to work, and still play in the woods. I assume not, but wanted someone to help get it out of my head. PS. I realize its possible to put a light and turn signals on any bike, but I'm wondering if it's a legitimate option. Example, there is now way I would ride my rev 3 on the road as a way to commute and enjoy the ride.
  16. Thanks guys, I appreciate the info, but really looking for a "new bikes" wall calendar. I'm emailing Sergio back and forth right now. I'm hoping that turns out to be what I want!
  17. I'm really hoping somebody has a source or has made one? I'm in the USA, but don't see that makes a difference, as long as I can order and shipped here from ???.
  18. I have a small Camelbac I use now, but wanting to put something on the bike to lighten the back pack. PLUS, I have two boys, who don't use camelbak's, and I would like each of them to have at a minimum, a plug and wrench.
  19. Looking for somewhere on bike to store a spare plug and wrench. (maybe a few allen wrenches). Right now I'm thinking about behind number plate. Anybody have any other ideas? Pics?
  20. Lol, no offense taken. He is over 6' tall, and is on the high school swim team. I am confident if you saw him, you would agree he's just fine. You should see how easily he throws the bike around! He's in the pool or lifting as much a part time job.
