  1. Hi Gang. I have had my 1993 TY250 Pinky for about 2 years. I have never trialled before, and am just learning the basics. As I get better, I have started to find things that could be improved on the bike. The main thing is that it has always been slow to return to a normal idle after the throttle is opened. For an idea, if i blip the throttle for about 1/2 a second, the engine takes about 4 seconds to get back to idle. Is this normal? I would prefer a quicker response and return, to allow me to use the engine braking instead of the rear brake. I have tried to tweak the carb screws, but always seem to end up with a high idle speed or stalling! Also, I don't wantto end up screwing(!!) the mixture and making things worse. Any ideas? Or are they all just like this? Nick
  2. Thanks Scotty. It seemed to be a mixture of the 2 responses I got. The carb did have a bit of crap in the jet. (I missed this when I first cleaned it out). Also, the plug or HT lead was faulty. It sparked when out of the engine, but stopped once seated in the head! What a bugger to assess! Anyway, a new HT coil and plug later, it started first kick!! Excellent!! Cheers for the help. Will play with the mixture settings when next trialling. Nick
  3. Hi gang. I recently had a tankful of dodgy fuel. While out practising, the Ty just stalled while idling, and refused to start again. unfortunately, this is when I started to mess about with the mixture screws!! I have since cleaned out the tank and carb, but cannot get the bugger to start. I assume I have screwed (!!!) up the mixture. Does anyone know a good starting point to set the 2 screws at to help me kick her over?? Cheers, Nick
  4. When you say to cut the pipes off just below the float bowl, do you mean that I should bend them downward? At the moment, without bending, the pipes would go straight up. Cheers for your replies Bo. I have had a look at the wiring on the Ty, and it has a spare female and a male bullet connector coming from the coil. Does the switch fit inbetween these 2? TA

    Ty250 Carb

Hi guys and gals. I have noticed that my recently acquired TY250 Pinky has 2 pipe nipples on the top which have currently got no pipes on them. There is what I assume to be a bleed/overflow pipe coming directly out of the bottom of the carb, but the others are pointing vertically and near to vertically on either side of the float. Should they have breather pipes on them? I am pretty sure they should have, because at the moment, crap can get down the open holes into the carb. If so, where to? Any ideas? Nick
  6. That's great Bo, thanks! I have just bought the switch from Ebay and will let you know what happens when it arrives. Cheers fella! ( I assume?!?) java script:emoticon('', 'smid_5')
  7. Hello fellow feet-up fans. I am in the throes of tidying up my TY250 Pinky and want to get rid of the wiring. I am never gonna use it for road use, so want to remove any unnecessary bits. Can anyone tell me where to get and where to connect a kill switch? I'm sure the "where to get" question is easy, but i have read good and bad articles about different manufacturers switches being of "dubious" quality. I have no idea about bike electrics, so am lost as to which bits are needed and which are not. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Ta.
  8. I reckon Pedrosa will be in the top 3 at the end of the season. His talent is unbelievable considering his age! Even Rossi has said that he will be the one to beat. I was amazed that Capirossi kept it upright with the way he was drifting in and out of every corner! Poor, poor Sete! Rossi said last year that Gibernau would never beat him again. He had the chance with Rossi taking a tumble, and his bike went all Italian on him!!! Rossi 21 points down after 1 race. It could be a cracking season.
  9. Good avdice from all parties. Like you TedM, I always fancied a go at trials. (Being 37, it probably started when I first saw "Kickstart" as a boy). Anyway, I have just bought a 1993 Yamaha TY250 for
  10. That was cool! I can't wait for the day I dare attempt a section like those! Good posting, Cheers
  11. Life is just not fair!!!! I was cheesed off enough about the sections, then you had to go and rub salt into the wound with the pic 11 stuff!! Bugger! Oz here we come.
  12. Cheers. I'll give it a bash.
  13. Cheers lads. The bike is air-cooled, and does have a disc brake, so a "Pinky" it is. Now then. On my first, over-exuberant, go at a stand-up wheelie, I managed to break the throttle cable carrier on the handlebars. I have managed to find a replacement, but it is an "Amal, slow speed throttle". Does this mean that it needs more of a twist for the same amount of go?? Is this a good or a bad thing for a novice? Nick
  14. Cheers Johnny. It is aircooled, and does have the pink seat and mudguard, so that points to it being the "Pinky" I suppose!!

    New Boy!

Hello boys and girls. I have just bought a TY250, (1993).Info on its exact model name would help. It is my first foray into trials bikes. I have off-roaded on my DR350, but always fancied trials. As a total wobbler, can anyone give me any advice on good sites to get info, and preferably a manual, for the bike? Also, anywhere to have a go at some gentle trialling. I am near St. Albans, Herts.
