  1. I've bought a 1986 Fantic 241 mono shock. It's the bike I've always wanted since i was about 13.. I used to love kick start when i was a kid and loved the fantic mono shocks and the Yamaha TY250's.. I may buy one of those too when the right one comes along. I'm not very good yet so no trials for now, but will get a more modern bike in time when funds allow.
  2. Welcome in.. I'm a newbie too..Sorry to hear about your Mother. I lost mine last year too. Some great people on here and given me some good advice as well with my bike.. what have you bought?
  3. Thank You, I contacted him this morning and he told me he sold the last 2 last night on facebook and won't be getting anymore... so trying to locate a decent 450 cover now.. But thank you for letting me know.
  4. Thank you for your reply.. I think I will try and get a whole cover with eye glass save me fiddling about..going to have a go of doing it myself as need to learn these things.. Thanks to everyone for your input.. I will let you know when I've got it sorted. Cheers Julian
  5. So i'm guessing my engine number is 010171 and also I need a 450 plate on the gear box cover? It there a technical name for a gearbox cover? The case that covers th gear box which has 11 allen bolts holding it on, as I'm going to try and get the correct one if I can with the right plate on it. And where would the frame number be so I can find out if it is matching the engine? I have also been told to use the cheapest ATF possible n the gear box from the person i bought it from... However, the gear change isn't always smooth and found it a bit notchy, so would i be better using a light gear oil instead? If so which brand and grade would be best. I have read putolene 75w might be a good one... so many different things I am reading on the net i don;t know what to use now. Thank you for all your help so far i do appreciate it. Cheers Julian
  6. Thanks for the information, I've just taken some pictures and think this confirms its a 212cc so a 241.. Going to upload now
  7. Thanks for that Alberto.. I will later and also the frame has fantic 450 stamped on the front of frame on the headtube
  8. Is there any other way of identifying what size engine it is apart from the engine plate?
  9. Ah right. So maybe it's a 250... it's decalled up as a 241 but it does seem really powerful. Saying that its the only bike ive ever ridden lol...thanks for the info ?
  10. My Friend made these for my Fantic 241 today, getting them tomorrow. One of them is going on the petrol tank so has been laminated to protect the print. These are not vinyl cut but proper decals He can pretty much do anything, so if anyone wanted a custom decal for their bike, let me know. He does quick turn around time too.
  11. Well it's not the bolts as bought 5mm shorter ones today and it started to bite the 1st one then just spun, so at least that's ruled that out... The bike is a 241, so think that's a 212cc engine not a 250.. I still think it's the glass eye thats the problem... do they just screw in or do you need to seal them with sealant?
  12. One more question, if I take the case off, does it need to be drained first ...I'm guessing yes?
  13. Thank you for your help, I will keep you posted on how I get on..I have ordered a new oil level viewer and a full gasket kit for the 241 ... Hopefully get it sorted this week as I want to ride.
  14. That's fantastic advice, thank you so much. I will take one of the bolts out tomorrow and see what length it is. Luckily where I live we have a place called alpha fasteners which sell allen bolts in all sizes so will buy some slightly shorter ones just I case it is that.. You guys on here are fantastic an know your stuff :-)
  15. Hi All .. I recently bought a fully restored Fantic 241 trial bike monoshock 1986 progress 1 version. I have used it only twice and I have a leak coming from the gear box.. It seems to be under the glass eye level rather than the gasket itself.. It's leaking quite a bit now so want to get it fixed asap as i want to use the bike. I have spoken to someone who fixes bikes but he doesn't seem to know anything about the Fantic, and has asked me to get a filter and some oil? I don't know what filter i would be looking for, for the 241 although I have ordered a new glass eye and a full gasket set for a 241... Can anyone also recommend a good ATF fluid which would be suitable for the gearbox in the fantic? If anyone can help would appreciate it. Also if anyone knows of anyone in Wales who knows a bit about trials bikes that would be of help too. Thank you. Julian Picture now added and oil seems to be coming out from underneath the glass eye
  16. Thanks for the replies, I've spoken to Eddie and he is going to look out for a TY250R for me which is the bike I really want. Cheers J
  17. .Hi All. I'm think I am going to purchase this bike...Link Below...I am wanting a TY250 mono and thought this was good value. The tank decals are wrong but I've also noticed seat looks smaller than normal and also some of the engine bits like grey cover and silver bit up the top of engine looks different to all the bikes I've seen on google. I've been told it is an 86 which is want i want and was going to change the tank decals but now I'm not so sure if this an 86 or if a lot of the parts are wrong? Any help would be appreciated. 22. Thanks for reply. I think I'm not too far out on price. There is a beatiful fantic on ebay 2500 or make offer. Looks like new to me. Ive messaged seller so see where it goes ... hopefully will get it.
  23. Hello, I'm from Brecon and have wanted a Trials bike from the age of 13. (I'm now 45). Great forum by the way, have been having a look through for a while, but only just joined. I'm looking for a mint Monoshock Bike 85/86 and the 2 I desire the most - a Fantic or Yamaha TY. I'm looking for advice as which would be the best to get and have a budget of 2k Plus- ish for the right bike, but it has to look pretty much like new so looking for a restored model which is also mechanically running well. So which would you consider the best, a Fantic or a Yamaha TY? Bearing in Mind it will not get used much and won't be trialled but more likely used just in fields and taken to shows. I'm just under 11 stone and about 5 ft 10. I'm looking for a 200-250 cc ideally, so a fantic 241 or TY250 would be for me as i think these models were mono in 85/86. I used to be a massive Junior Kick start fan, and these are the bikes I remember the most... I was really looking for a TY originally but the Fantic is now getting the more desirable. Any advice would be much appreciated. Cheers Taff (Julian)
