I will try to consider the type of riding and adjust the mix accordingly, some good advice which seems to come from a mix of experience, personal preference, techinical info, reccomendations etc.
Cheers

Cheers, got a manual now from TY guy on ebay. Will check them out for spares though, can never have enough sources for them!
-
Try www.jkhirst.co.uk
They have all sticker sets
-
Thanks for that, will go and have a root round now, have some big hex keys somewhere. Will make a note of paint ref and spacer too.
Thanks all of you for the info
-
Thanks for that Arun, Will give that a go tonight. That bloke off ebay who said he has my manual on cd seems to have vanished into thin air since saying he would sell me one! Think his name was John Cane (the TY guy) who sells loads of stuff!
Could have done with it and then I wouldn't have had to bother you guys!!
Never mind, will leave speedo thing on, not doing any harm.
Sent frame off for shot blasting and powder coat today so can concentrate on cleaning up the rest of the parts before I get it back and start to put it all back together.

You have answered the question for me I think, the problem I was having was getting the spindle out, I did need to take caliper off anyway to put new pads in but that came off easily by undoing two bolts fixing it to fork leg. The disk itself is wobbling due to three of the fixing bolts having been snapped off so will have fun trying to get them out now!
I will get a torx screw key to fit then it should come off, I do seem to have what looks to be a redundant black speedo unit fixed to side opposite brake disc, does this serve a function other than to tell speed if it is connected, which it isn't? If not I might remove completely but think it would leave a space that would need filling by something else.
Cheers

TY250 Pinky
Can anyone shed any light on how to get the front wheel off without resorting to a lot of swearing and large hammers!?
I have one of the forks off which is the side which doesn't have the disc brake, this slid off easily after undoing the clamp.Ddoes the spindle on the disc brake side unscrew with the large star bolt or is removed another way?, If it unscrews using the large star bolt then I will get one to fit but wanted to make sure I wasn't barking up the wrong tree before I did. This is the last part of the bike to come apart before the rebuild can commence!! Thanks
-
Cheers mate, saved me a lot of searching
-
Does anyone know what the colour name or refence are for the blue fork paint on a pinky?
Cheers
-
Thanks for that, hot conditions are rare in in England, especially in the Yorkshire Dales where I live so I will take your advice on board and suit the oil content to the type of riding and conditions.

50:1 seems to be winning the vote at the moment! Cheers
-
I have been told to run my 1990 TY250 pinky on a mix which ranges from 35:1 all the way up to 70:1!
Am looking to see what other people run theirs on please
cheers
-
The guy I bought it off told me 35:1 ,I am confused now!

Saw a brand new one on ebay and it had white frame and blue forks. The forks and frame have been painted over and the original white frame and blue forks can be seen underneath where the paint is chipped. Everyone is telling me that frame should be white with the blueforks.

Thanks for the advice and pictures, I have taken a load of photos and started to strip it down. I am going to do a proper job and get the frame and forks shot blasted and powder coated in the proper colours. When I put it all back together it will give me a chance to check, clean, grease and spray everything else and see how it all fits together for future! The very back part of the frame that sticks out over back tyre which the silencer and mudguard fixes too needs straightening out as it bends in a little at the mo which is probably why the silencer was rubbing on the tyre before. I think a bit of heat and some tweaking should bring it out a bit, luckily it is just one side and is independent of the other.
I am a bit wary about taking the front forks apart to send for powder coat, might do those myself then I can leave suspension etc in tact as the seals don't leak or anything.
Once again I have got some good tips, thanks

Sound like a good idea, will try that
cheers

This is the slightly tatty pinky i bought last weekend and was informed it was a 1990 model, it has the 4AJ on start of frame number as per people have been stating, my frame and front forks have been painted a horrible green colour but apart from that it is standard, it has the adjustable rear mono shock and front disc. This is my first trials bike but if the pic helps any than glad to be of help, i have been given a lot of good advice by the members of this forum over the last few days.I paid

Cheers for that, I will have a think about what to do with it. The car in the background was an evo race car I think, that pic was taken by the guy I bought the bike off last weekend. He had an WRX which is on ebay at the mo i think.
I may strip the bike down, I don't like bodging and like you say I can always take plenty of pics etc. It does seem pretty straight forward. (famous last words) The bike has been mechanically very well looked after with frequent oil changes etc and no been trialed so hopefully i won't uncover any nasty's. I intend to get some new plastics etc, smarten it up, return it to it's original colours etc and then use it in the fields locally until my skills improve!

Can anyone suggest easiest way to paint frame of my TY250 without stripping it down completely? Got to remove the old non standard green colour before I can repaint in white so if anyone has used a good paint removal product they could reccommend then that would be a big help, I am doing the front forks too.
Attached is a picture of the bike
Cheers

Do you know if the white and blue have yamaha paint refences and where I might find them?
Cheers

What do you reckon about the exhaust / silencer joint? Should it be sealed or simply push in?
2 stroke and gearbox Oil advice and how often gearbox oil needs changing would be great.
Cheers matey
-
Should the forks be white also?
Were there different colours of Pinky frames are were they all manufactured in one colour and then repainted by owners? The front forks on mine are the same green as the frame and seat, if someone has painted this lot then they have gone to alot of trouble and made a good job of it?
I am puzzled
-
Cheers David, hope my questions are not too trivial!
I am really surprised how easy the TY is to work on, everything is accessible and comes apart easily (so far). Looking forward to getting out on it, been 5 years since I had an off road bike and missed it.

Thanks very much, the tyre is a tubeless michelin and as you say it does look to be not seated properly on rim in a couple of places. The bike has been stood for afew months with low tyre pressure before I bought it and there as there are a couple of splits in side wall but they don't seem to be letting air out. There is loads of tread on the tyre so I will try pumping it up as you suggest and see if that helps.
Thanks for the help, I am learning a lot fast!
