  1. I went on the saturday and I stood with an observer for a bit who was riding on the sunday and he said he thought the beginners were harder than the novice but the weather was good on the saturday and it has further motivated me to get a bike and have a go. From talking to people there it is apparent that the Halton Gill trial is not that easy compared to other beginners trials. It is only 15 mins away from home so I am looking forward to having a go whjen I get my new bike.

    2001 Rev 3 270

I was only kidding Did get offered one actually but want a rev 3 so will wait and get one next month maybe when I get paid again and I sell my pinky. If nothing else I have now realised that my mate's 270 is not the bike for my limited ability and i know my other half would rather i sold the Yam before getting another. Might go watch the beginners trial tommorow nearby and try and cadge a couple of test rides. The only person i know rides a gas gas though and this is not the place to talk about them! Have a good weekend's riding, hopefully won't be long till I am doing the same

    2001 Rev 3 270

Now that I know the clutch problem is not too serious on the bike, is a 270 too much for a first trials bike? Would have been looking at a 250 but as I know the history of this one I am pretty keen on it. On the other hand though there is no point buying something I will spend all my time climbing out from underneath (well more than any other bike I buy!)

    2001 Rev 3 270

Thanks folks, sounds like an oil change is the first port of call if I buy it.

    2001 Rev 3 270

Thanks for that, now I think about it I can remember him telling me the beta had a bit of a clutch problem but it was his other bike that was a lot worse and needed cable adjustment when cold and again after warming up. I rode both but only for a few minutes and was concentrating hard on not falling off and knackering his bikes so didn't look at cables etc. Going out for a proper ride in 2 weeks so will have a good look round the bike then and give it a better test.

    2001 Rev 3 270

Excuse my ignorance, It probably has hydraulic clutch, I may be getting mixed up with the other bike he has too which was an old Tr34 or something. I didn't actually have to adjust it, it was something we were talking about in the pub the other night. Don't have any pics, it was bought by his neighbour who buys toys then loses interest immediately as he did with this so the only trials action it has seen is about 10 trials he has done and the rest of the time he just rode it around the fields etc.

    2001 Rev 3 270

I am looking at buying a 2001 rev 3 270 from a mates dad, I had a go on and I liked it a lot, when cold though the clutch has to be tightened up on the cable and then after riding for a while needs to be loosened off. Is this a major problem and what is the cure? When were hydraulic clutches introduced and can an after market one be fitted? I was looking at getting a 250 but I know the history of this bike from new and it has only been in a few trials so is in good condition and therefore would be a good buy i feel. Are there any problems to look for on this model or year of bike? I have ridden trail bikes but as this is my first trials bike I thought maybe a slow action throttle may keep the extra power more under control? Any thoughts?

    Which Model

Thanks for the advice folks, will see how much the Pinkies currently go for on ebay and decide what to do with mine.

    Which Model

Being new to trials can anyone tell me the main differences between the techno and the Rev 3, opinions on which is best etc? Beta seem to be good value and reliable from what I can gather. When I get my Pinky rebuilt and some practise in I fancy getting a modern bike and am drawn toward the Beta's.Would be looking to spend a grand, probably have to sell Pinky as space and funds won't allow both! Not in any rush to buy so if you can give me some pointers and things to look for I can have a look around.

    Ty250 Part Ref

Not sure if the front disc brake setup has one or two pistons to push the pads onto the disc If anyone knows please shout out as I can only seem to get one side to work so I am hoping that there is only one or it would appear I have a problem!

    Ty250 Part Ref

I have e-mailed John Cane but will try Birketts while he gets back to me. Have you got contact details for birketts, havn't used them before. Cheers

    Ty250 Part Ref

Does anyone know what the part ref is for the spacers that slide into the holes on the Pinky's front disk, there are 6no. in total. Two of the bolts have been snapped off on mine but the remaining ones are also too long so the disc won't tighten up fully leaving it slightly loose. These maybe home made or just the wrong spacers that someone has found kicking about. If anyone knows where to get them that would be great The manual I have is for TY mono but doesn't have the front disc details on as it is for the drum brake version.
  18. Thanks for all the info, it is alot clearer now. I am sure when I have been to a few i will get to know what all the different categories, event types etc are. It appears I am very lucky in that there are many clubs in my area so will have a good choice of events to go and watch and also take part in when I get my bike rebuild finished.
  19. Thanks, I understand apart from two things 1, What the closed to club level, open centre, out of centre etc? and all the other strange classes? This is the very confusing part of the different clubs I have looked at??!! 2, What is the difference between ACU and AMCU? Why is their not one governing body?
  20. I am wanting to go and watch some trials and then join a club where I can have a go. How does it work when you join a club? Do people join a club and then it enables them to ride in other clubs events or are they restricted to the club where they are a member? Do people join a a few different clubs if there is more than one in there area? I live in North Yorkshire but close to West Yorkshire and also Lancashire so have Yeadon-Guiseley, Horsforth, Bradford and Lancashire within travelling distance so not sure what to do? I think there are afew people on this forum from the Skipton area if they could advise, or anyone for that matter. Whilst writing is there anything on over the Easter weekend to go and watch in this kind of area, have checked out some websites but can't find much. Cheers
  21. Oh and to answer the original question, get a gas one every time!
  22. Make sure you get a Turbo Welder, they last longer and the fan prevents overheating if you use them for long periods. Mig is far easier to learn and use and good more most jobs around the home or workshop. Tig is fairly specialist really and takes some skill and alot of practise. Anything less than 100 amp will be too small really, unless you are just welding sheet material. I recently bought a 130 Turbo Mig off Ebay for

    Bike Value

Must be a 500% mark up on plastics, at least!

    Bike Value

Well if I start off with it in good nick and keep on top of it maintenance and repair wise then when I come to sell it should at least get me my money back which is all you can ask really I suppose.

    Bike Value

Am wondering what to do with my Pinky when I have re-built it, am undecided if I should keep it and ride it in beginners trials or sell it and buy something a little newer, lighter, more user friendly etc. Part of me wants to keep it but I know all the hard work will never look as good or fetch as much money once I get going on it and drop it on the ground a lot! I have really enjoyed working on it but parts seem very expensive for what they are and it isn't the lightest of bikes it has to be said.
