I'm thinking of getting a Dave Cooper van rack for my bongo, it has an 85kg nose weight which is probably better than many vehicles that use racks but it has a fair bit overhang past the back axle. Has anyone used a trials rack on a bongo. It will be to carry a montesa Cota 247 initially
The carb on my Montesa Cota is worn out and distorted. The bike is a 1972 Montesa Cota 247 frame number 21M8xxx (mk4 silver frame). It currently has an Amal Mk1 627/414 which doesn't seem to be listed on the Amal website, is this really a Cappra or scorpion carb?
I'd like to replace the Amal, can anyone advise what the correct carb is for that year i.e. 627/427 etc? The Amal site offers a number of options for a '72.
I'd like to keep it simple and original and stay with the Amal.
I only left it 34 years before taking it up again. It comes down to budget and an enthusiasm for tinkering!
I've got a 72 Cota and it's an ongoing project, there always a job that needs doing etc. I'm very tempted with also having a modern bike and started this post
Thanks all, I suspect I've a Montesa/Honda bias because of past bike ownership but nothing relevant to a modern ish trials bike. I think I'm going to take the general advice of all of the above and look for a decent bike locally hopefully through a club member etc and keep some cash back for bearings etc.
Northern bikes tend to have a harder time on (or through)the rocks.Private sales are normally cheaper, the Mont is better made but an older design, the Beta is in my opinion better to ride and has better spares availability
Thanks, I'll bear that in mind. I live in the wet midlands so maybe I can get the best of both!
The idea is to go somewhere where we could do trials but in the same time I guess there are a lot of trials shops in the midlands...maybe south would be better for business???? We are used to good weather (we are Greeks)
The south is a little bit warmer but land and property prices are much higher.
You might have to travel to get what you want.Thats way too much for an 05 beta albeit a very clean one.Theres a couple on E--y at the moment, one in Peterborough, the other in Ashford that look worth enquiring about
Yes, I've got a trailer so more than happy. The Montesa 315r seems generally more available. There are two firms in Brighouse selling a few at the moment (there's another thread on this forum discussing the firms concerned). Bit worried about getting a shiny bike?
