  1. I'm failing to see how sending youngsters off to another country, simply to ride (not compete) would have any impact at all. Sure, it'll be nice for them and will get their name out in the world perhaps, but I see no difference in riding in the UK to Spain, other than the climate of course.

Adopting your idea sounds simple enough, but

  2. I was in the cinema the other day and a trailer appeared for the new James Bond film. Now, did my eyes lie or is James Bond on a trials bike jumping over walls/boxes?

I've had a quick look over TF and nothing jumped out about this; obviously a stunt rider (que Lane Leavitt).

    Any news?

  3. Glancing over the front pages these past few days I've noticed a lot of charity work surrounding the SSDT?

Obviously if the SSDT goes down, these charities to not gain any funds from riders/the club. I figure this could be a very persuasive point in obtaining support from the big oil companies - what with all the bad press around fuel/oil companies these days, to help out the charities is something I don't think they'd ignore - maybe even a persuasive issue for the Army?

What about contacting the manufactures? They're all pretty big names in the world of motorsport and may have a lot of influence and long relationships with oil companies.

  4. Hi there folks,

As we have a range of careers on the board, I was just wondering if anyone has done the Microsoft Certified System Administrator course, namely for Windows Server 2003...or any other edition would be helpful.

If you have done this, or currently doing it, could you please add me to MSN...I have a few questions that may need more development than a forum discussion.

My address is mattio2k [AT] hotmail.com

    Thanks :D

  5. Ahoy there shipmates!

I'm thinking of purchasing another motorcycle; really getting too old now to be messing about on bikes...doesn't exactly impress the chicks, if you know what I mean.

I've never fully left motorcycle trials, I pop onto this site occasionally for a quick read. Although I have lost track of the bikes; basically I want to know which is the bike to go for these days and the price differences for new to second hand.

I've obviously prefer second hand because I'd be too scared to ride anything brand new...the first scratch is always the worst.

I like the look of the Sherco or Gas Gas, but look a little pricey.

So, to evaluate, exactly what has happened over the past 2 years that I should know about concerning bikes? :D

  7. Not really a fleece wearer so its not much of a loss  I'll have a polo shirt though if they're available, I seem to remember moaning at Andy at some point and reserving one? (At least I'll have him believe that).

Heath, did you ever get back into bike trials?

Looks like I missed the SSDT a few months back (5...is that a few? lol), I'll have to journey up there in May next year, I've not been to watch a trial since TC trial, so may aswell make the first one in a while the best one.

And I'll ride my little seatless bike and you can all take the p*** :chairfall:

  8. Afternoon everyone,

Not been on here for a few months, occasional have a peek at the articles and its interesting to see Andy creation grow bigger and better by the month which he undoubtably deserves.

Although, I came onto the forum...whats happened?! When the sudden influx of subforums? Maybe its because I'm not used to it but there seems to be a designated forum for every possible subject, and now members as it seems

Maybe I don't come on here often enough these days, but I'll make an effort now :chairfall: A bit of a pointless topic now I come to type it out, but hoping someone can update me on a few things.

Any TC Trial in the pipeline? Clothing? Future projects?

  9. Not been to competitions yet, but may well do sometime. I just like the street stuff mostly, but no harm in trying a comp.

I ride with a few people who you might know from the YMSA comps, Joe Oakley, Joe Eyre, Liam Eyre, Adam Watkinson, Danny Foster.

Nah, I don't polish it that much :wall: Everything on it is new on this week so it very clean, give it another week and it'll be scratched and chipped to bits :D

  10. Evening all,

I dont get to post much these days, its a bit difficult to follow or reply to mototrials when you don't ride anymore.

I pop in every now and then for a look whats happening, but...I thought you might like to see what I gave up mototrials for.

    yellowbike1.jpg

Thats what drains my wages, destroys my body and keeps me occupied these days :D Some people aren't a fan of the yellow rims, but nevermind, thought you might want a peek :D

    Enjoy.

  11. I really wouldn't bother with a bike so cheap, if you can help it. I'm not saying they're bad, but they do require a fair bit of upgrading to get them anywhere near a 'decent' modern bike.

Fair enough, you do get your moneys worth, up to an extent, but the parts will be tacky (see onza B))

If you can afford to, go the few extra miles and get a bike with a reasonable set up. If you get a Da Bomb, it'll be about 2 months before you want to start upgrading everything on it which will all mount up in to the hundreds. If you can get the hundreds now, spend it and get a better bike.

  12. Personally, and I know many would disagree, but go for the 2004 models, not the 2005. It'll save you about 10 quid and I think the 05 levers are *****, once the TPA is usless and once it breaks the lever is useless.

Whereas the 04's, you can stick a bolt in there and fix it yourself.

Although if you're converting from Vee's to HS33's, you are aware that you need magura mounts on the forks? If you don't have Maggie mounts then you can buy an adapter (somewhere) that connects to the Vee mount and allows you to fit a HS33.

  13. The ACU seem to think that the Risk Assessment for an event can be put on just one form and that will be enough to show that we have considered the risks if something happens.

Risk assessments can be put on to one form and they will probably save your ass in court if something did happen on your site.

We seem to be a CLAIM CLAIM CLAIM! culture at the moment and its getting worse, people are walking away with 3 figure compensation gains from the smallest, unconsidered thing, the courts just label that as 'insufficiant risk assessment'.

If you were taken to court and produce a risk assessment it will not get you off the hook because you have identified the risk, you need to act on it, eliminate it is possible.

To carry out an assessment on an outdoor activity there is so much to consider, too much to consider really, you'd end up writing out a new assessment if it rained and the ground were slippy or something.

    -------

By the way, if it went to court, you'd be paying damages cost (civil law) and it will probably cost you your land and club.

  14. I write out Risk Assessments for a living (Health and Safety Manager). This however, to me, seems very over the tops that the ACU are asking for Risk Assessments to be recorded.

Never had experience in writing one out for a trial, but Risk Assessments are mainly for, obviously, identifying risks and hazards, a trial is a CONSTANT hazard in every sqaure inch of land that it is held on.

There are no laws, to my knowledge, of holding a public motorsports event where health and safety is concerned.

I personally think that a Risk Assessment for this thing is a pointless task so you may want to write to the ACU and ask for a more specific details on why you should have one.

I would imagine that it is more based on the observers and public members of the event and ensuring their safety on your land. Therefore, it makes sence that

all sections are taped off to a waist-height level (to avoid tripping and improve visability) aswell of warning of steep drops.

Ensuring there are no potental trip hazards on walk ways such as rocks or tree routes.

Seperating traffic of motorcycles with pedestrians as much as it is reasonably practicable.

Closing off and signing 'no go' areas for motorists and pedestrians.

If you want any specific questions on risk assessments feel free to PM me on here, but I would advise you to contact ACU and ask for more details on what it is you should be assessing for/against.
