  1. If you ask me I wouldn't bother with a Monty, not yet anyway, yes, nice bike and well built...but hardly ideal for a 6 year old to learn on, even on the monty 'kids' trial bike...very overpriced for what it is.

I have been riding for about 4 or 5 months now on an 05 t-pro, although only last week I snapped the frame, luckily, still on warrenty, though snapping frames are a common problem with the t-pro.

However, other onza's are great for learning on and also suitable for a decent rider; I understand onza do a kids bike...and knowing monty, no doubt the onza will be cheaper, and just as good for a younger beginner.

I now ride a GU frame, much much better than the pro...but thats another topic.

  2. Blur - Song 2 (Woo Hoo)

Always a classic with bike trial vids, explosive, loud, energetic...although i dont think it quite suits a moto-trials video...good edited videos I have seen where they manage to get the video and song hand in hand and make it so that, for example, a back wheel will hit a rail on the 'Hoo' of the song or on every strong drum beat...pretty hard going really, but hey, decent song, should be good?

  3. For the first limited edition Montesa 4 Stroke I find it a little disappointing. I mean, yes, the carbon fibre bits and bobs look nice but its nothing special.

In my opinion a complete colour change, some REALLY fancy graphics wouldn't go a miss. Adding a few extra quid on for a few stickers that say 'Limited Edition' is just taking the p***.

Yes, ok, some parts like the Carbon Clamps aren't so bad, but in my eyes, this bike is nothing more special then the standard except that theres only 500 made...great.

    Moan over...*deep breath*

  4. DOH! Sorry, I never thought about the accommodation. I live within a wheelies distance of BDMC so it never occurs to me that folk have to travel....

In that case, open your house up for a <mention of this company is not permitted on Trials Central> for a couple of hundred people and there might be a chance it'll happen.

I seriously can't see anyone willing to camp out in winter, remember the fuss everyone made last year with a few threats from HL and Andrew to run off to a <mention of this company is not permitted on Trials Central> and desert us all? And that was in May! ;)

    The weather stopped nice anyway...

  5. I think you'll find that we can only yet plastic from our bike manufacture...were as MX is more wide spread with brands such as UFO making plastics cheaply.

Trials parts, plastics in anycase, are though the roof with no reason...its a plastic injection mould, with a few classy looking stickers...what do you think the net value of it is? Less then 50p?

I understand they have to make profit, but

  6. My rear shock seems to have...well, not exactly packed up, but more 'made unchangable'.

The purple looking screw to alter the compression has jammed up, it still has some play in it, but it will not budge either way...any ideas?

The shock itself still works, but I want it hardening up, or, if possible, update the entire shock itself.

I have yet to dismantle the shock as I dont have a clamp at hand, but if thats what it needs I will get hold of one.

And also, if anyone has any information about obtaining shocks and their price ranges, please let me know.

    Thanks,

    Matt.

  7. A little off topic, but you could still benefit...

Trying to keep my alpine stars that lovely white colour, had an idea of painting them, just like Mr.Colleys back in 2001 with the lovely yellow Hebos which his Dad painted for him.

Painting them would keep them waterproof, but what paint to use? It needs to be waterproof, hard wearing and take well to leather...Any ideas you paint experts out there? Someone must have done it before?

  8. I went from the standard, and recommended NGK (BR6ES) and to an NGK Iridium...pretty neutral about it...I'd say the bike does run a little better with the Iridium, but...to be honest I see or feel any real difference to the bikes running or performance.

  9. Way to many crashes in 10 or 11 years to name them all...but the worst one, and, touch wood, I hope it remains the worst..

Riding back from the practice spot (Heanor, Derbys) and theres a bit of a private path that runs right from the field to my house. The fencing either side of this path is about 4 foot high, and its all wooden posts with about 4 plans that go across it to make the fence.

The pannels that go across have this metal wiring, which is about impossible to snap with hands or electrical wire cutters...so its pretty strong stuff, and its nailed all over the fence to keep the fence together.

However, some **** decided to pull all the nails out so there is lots off this lose wire around, but still attached to the fence.

I came riding down the path, perhaps in about 4th/5th and collecting a fair bit of speed...the next minute, everything went into slow motion...and thats it..

I woke up on the floor...

Then I woke up at home, just as I walked though my back door.

As you can imagine, I did ride into that wire, it got me neck first...as well as my arms and hands...resulting in a huge cut on every bit where that wire touched, and the one on my neck looked like I tried to hang myself...Luckly, it didn't scar that much.

The funny thing was that I woke up, no one around, but my bike was leaned up on the fence next to me, and then I passed out again, and woke up as I walked though my back door.

I drove home unconscious...which was scary...

  10. my bike is long overdue new chain and sprockets, can anyone tell me which are the best ones to use and how many teeth either end do you recommend? thanks in advance for your help

As for recommending the ammount of teeth...all of my previous sets have been 10/40, but I went for 10/42 this time as I didn't have a choice.

The amount of teeth will vary from rider to rider, but Im guessing 10/40 is pretty standard. It was factory standard on the Montesa anyway.

The amount of teeth will not really effect you depending on your experience and...well, riding class.

    I recommend a standard 10/40 personally.

  11. I ordered some in from my local bike shop (road bike) which I dont normally do...but I figured he'd appriciate, and is probably more in need of my business then Sandifords.

Anyway, I brought a renthal sprocket set, 42T on the rear, and 10T on the front, not exactly sure on the cost of the sprockets alone, but im guessing about

  12. Question stemming from the previous post.

Does anybody actually use any protection for trials, other than:

    Helmet

    Boots

    Gloves

But still the questionaire asks about Arm, Head and Leg protection, and also asks about pricing and which is a priority.

The result of this could mean exactly what you've said, this could make the price of helmets, boots and gloves cheaper and also more developed as they are in a high priority and people may, or most likely, may not be prepared to pay high costs for protection...although in a business sense it would mean that its in a high priority and so they will charge more because they know its something most cant do without.

  13. Hi,

I'm a new found convert to the sport and would like to take it up. Apart from the obvious method of just buying a bike and practising somewhere on my own, are there any schools around that run courses, or riders that offer one-on-one tuition.

I live in the Derbyshire area.

    Cheers,

Where abouts in Debryshire are you? You could hook up with me for some free lessons?

  14. What's the reaction of people when you show them a modern trials DVD (especially indoor events) for the first time? "Whoa... that's amazing... " and they're hooked.

I think thats that problem, trials vids are amazing and its more of a 'that looks complicated' and people don't like doing things unless they feel that they can be fully involved in the sport.

People need to be shown the sport in a practical way so they enjoy the fun of the sport and not the extreme world class riding of the sport...if you understand what I mean, its a little difficult to explain.

  15. I dont see much point in paying out loadsa money for something that will only get smashed up...

I dont have any fork protectors on at the minute, but Im going to make some and then coat them in carbon fibre tape to take away that Blue Peter look...I'll post some photos.

  16. Nooo, I personally would never use them for 3 reasons;

    1. I like the 'stability' of the usual pegs and the locked to position feeling they give...My feet move, not the pegs.

    2. 'Pivot' can mean break...I mean, whats in them? Roller bearings? On the slightest drop of the bike its your pegs f****d, they wont last too long before they seize up, surely?

    3. Way too over priced,
