  1. Despite the differences in sport between the US and the rest of the world, it's good to know that one of the most ancient of pastimes still unites us. Fishing is the same the world over right?

Whether in China, France, Britain or the good old US of A it's one sport that we could all sit on the same river bank like civilised human beings.

    Family fishing trip

When I worked for a compressor manufacturing company in Broken Arrow Oklahoma a couple of the guys in the shop invited me to go noodling for catfish. I thought I might accept their invitation until a week later when riding my bicycle, I saw a large shape at the bottom of the creek behind the house, it turned out to be a snapping turtle which was about 36" from tail to nose. Later at the barbershop in Coweta, OK the barber had a picture of a snapping turtle that his son had shot with a bow and arrow which measured 44" from head to tail, its head was 6" wide and its mouth was big enough to bite your hand off. From that point forward I decided to fish from the shore with the water moccasins and cotton mouths.

  2. unfortunatly american sense of humour as it is they will think this is for real

Quite right. By the end of reading the message I had already gathered up my assault rifles, my sniper rifle, 10,000 rounds for each, 100 lb each of hard tack and bacon, a bag of pinto beans, informed my militia network, and headed for the hills.

    Yee Ha

    PS

I did bring along my two trials bikes. Might need them for recon.

  3. Had the same problem with my Scorpa. Could not move it even with Mole Grips. In the end i had the bike on its side, took the largest nut i could find that would sit on the drain plug and used my mig welder to weld the two together. Just filled up the center of the nut with weld. Socket on the adjoined nut whilst still hot and out she came. New plug from Birkett, and no problem since.

If you use the welding method just make sure to disconnect your ignition module and that the ground does not go through any bearings i.e. don't hook the ground to your kick stand or counter-shaft sprocket. It would be better if you could ground directly to the plug using something like a smaller pair of needle nose Mole Grips

    Cheers

  4. I would bet that 80% of the Trials bikes sold never see a Trials section. Most are bought to trail ride. We do both, and trail ride ours all the time, anywhere from 2000 ft to 10,000 ft. The new liquid cooled bikes are actually better for it than the old air cooled ones were. Heck after riding a Trials bike on a trail, anything else feels like herding a Mack Truck down the trail. Like the others guys said, just pay attention to the maintenance.

Here's the Five Miles of Hell we ride near Moab, UT. It's one of the longest most challenging rides you'll find. Actually 8 miles across, and we ride it over, then ride it back. Takes 3-4 hours to cross it one way. Guys ride it on Enduro bikes too as you can see with the helmet cam you tube video, but it's not easy. We've seen the enduro bikes get so hot they boil over. We pick up a lot of broken Enduro plastic too. On a Trials bike though, it's just pure fun!

This group has a Trials bike with them, and even he's getting a workout on the 5MOH

The only times I could see where the Enduro bikes would be better for trailing is in the sand, or on long fast desert roads.

What incredible fun on a trials bike. The guys with enduros would do better if they had trials tires.

    Thanks for posting the links.

  5. A well written piece in the local paper might get some sympathy, or even a letter to the council:

    Something like:

In this day and age where kids become over attached to games consoles, I think it's important to get them out of the house and interested in other sports. Indeed the government would probably agree that competitive sport can be a great positive benefit to kids of all ages.

My family has been involved with motorcycle trials for years, one of the most skillful of all motorcycle sports, involving balance and mainly very slow speed riding. In an attempt to introduce my nephews to responsible motorsport at an early age, with a hope that they will progress to trials in the near future, they have been given the opportunity to ride a childs motorcycle on a few acres of land which I own.

These are not ASBO's in the making, this is not a field full of racing motorcycles, this is a serious effort to show two five year olds how responsible sport should be done, taking other people in to consideration at the same time.

It's disheartening to find that the very people who have an interest in creating sporting and recreational opportunites for young people, are immediately against anything like this happening anywhere near their own homes, no matter how infrequent.

In days gone by you would expect the older generation to enjoy the fact that children are out doing something productive and responsible, rather than hanging around street corners and shopping arcades. It seems that in this day and age, the immediate NIMBY reaction is to type up a letter to have them removed from sight. Most of us want our children to be introduced to responsible, productive hobbies and pastimes, but only some of us are doing anything about it.

Tweaking to suit your own circumstances, just an idea.

This is a great letter. I hope it does the trick for asc.

  6. Nothing illegal about getting out on your horse - it takes a lot of guts to keep up with hounds over big hedges, rails, walls and ditches. - But then, you'll have never tried it. Simple fact is that trail hunting used since the ban, is supposed to resemble fox hunting as closely as possible - that's the whole point. It's just that most people can't tell the difference. Now, more foxes are just shot - which helps to protect ground nesting birds as well as newborn livestock, but is indescriminate unlike hunting with hounds. Bring it back I say.

*****heads on horses eh? I'd sell my Beta before my horses anyday. :bouncy:

    I agree,

You can't eat a Beta when times get tough. ;)

  7. The video was shot just outside of Phoenix, AZ at Oak Flat campground. Its probably 300 acres or so of boulders, dry creeks and lots of rocks. There are also lots of canyons to go into as well. A group of us go there every weekend in the winter. The summer its to hot. There was a world round there back in the early 90's I think.

Thats just a quick 720 mile jaunt down US Highway 60 form my house. Through interesting places like Globe, Show Low, Pie Town, Socorro, Willard, Vaughn, Texico, Herford, Panhandle, and Pampa.

    Thanks

  8. Spencer,

Welcome. I hope you will join the Top of Texas Trials Association Link . We host two rounds of the Texas State Trials Series which is usually in April at Lake Mackenzie Reservoir which is about half way between Pampa and Lubbock. I wish I could help you with information on any of your bikes but you have come to the right place. I have a 74 Cota 247 which needs some parts before it goes back together.
