Not exactly on topic - But I thought I would mention to all our friends from South of the border, that we have the first two rounds of the WTC ( World Trials Canada) Championship on the May 21st long weekend, at Summerland BC - this is a beautiful spot in the Okanagan Valley. ( just North of the border)
There are no hidden fees or clubs to join - you just show up & pay the entry - $30 per day or $50 for both. - this also part of our Outlaw Series which has been going on for the past 24 years and the vintage (twin shock) event will run on the Monday. - for further details you can email daverhodes@shaw.ca
Welcome to the forum - You are at the other end of the Country from me, but you can email me or whatever for info on the Yamaha TY - Great bikes in their time.
The Mikuni mod works just fine for stopping "Leakage" - contact John Lampkin or email me for further details - we have done lots of them over here in Western Canada.
When it comes to choosing what bike to ride, it really depends on what "Turns you on" - Most people who ride the vintage bikes do so because they love the nostalgia of the old machines, they spend hours on "fettling" to improve the way they perform, this often includes fitting new style 2 ply tires ( the old bikes had 4 ply) and higher Renthal handlebars, plus moving the footpeg position.
Although this class is small in Canada, it's huge in other parts of the World.
Being twenty years older than Copetech, I remember most of the bikes from Yesteryear, and while they can't be compared to the specialized models of today - back then they were the very best.
If it's just a case of money, the TY mono would be an excellent choice, as these can be picked up fairly cheaply. - Whatever you buy, make sure it's in good condition and get an experienced rider ( like Steve Fracy) to give you some pointers. Parts for most of the old bikes are still available, and we can help in this regard, but only you can decide on which route to take. If you would like to see some videos of the old bikes in action, we can supply them free of charge, just send me an email via this website.
Been dealing with Bill brown for about 20 years on & off - No problems at all with the quality - The new Trials stuff is standing up well, with no come-backs on the gear or Helmets. Great people to do business with. - Lots of this will be "under the Tree" on December 25th.
Watched this great video again yesterday - rather than look out the window at the snow - I think this is by far the best Scottish tape in my collection, and I've got a lot. Well done to the lads who made it and I look forward to getting another one in 2011.
- I have heard there are at least two Canadians entered for the 100th year event.
This is a very good topic and some sound advice from people who have been around for a long time - I especially liked the comments by jse, regarding keeping the sections wide with multi lines where possible to make the rider "Think"
We have similar problems in Canada, with many events proving to be too difficult for the lower classes. - Pre-Entry as in the UK would help, but has never really worked up here. - I've been setting up Trials for 40 years in Canada, and like to jokingly say "One day I'll get it right" - Good luck to everybody taking the time and making the effort - my planning for an event starts in my head - thinking about the loop, thinking about the sections, before I even go out on the bike. - Even after setting everything up, I often go around to double check the difficulty and ease up some sections. - I try to keep Junior sections fairly "Straight" - not too many tight turns - give them lots of room - as Ishy said - riders might say they had fun, but if they have struggled all day, they are unlikely to be back.
hope stan has better luck in the 2011 . last time he dislocated this shoulder. i bought his hire bike for a customer.willie
Willie - Stan will not be competing in Scotland next year - I spoke to him a short time ago, before he left for his winter vacation in Mexico, and he confirmed this. - He will however, be back to ride
The WEC Canadian Trials Championship locations have been finalized for 2011, with Rounds One & Two being held in the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia in May, and Rounds Three & Four at a Ski Resort near Montreal(Quebec)in July.
Just got back from Scipio and rode the loops. Just fill up each loop (the loop runs right by the pits) and you shouldn't have any problems.
Bring light rain gear as there is a chance of showers now and then but this should keep the dust down and make the creek sections fun. The weather was perfect today and should be nice, cool in the mornings and warm in the afternoon.
I personally dusted off each and every rock in the creek sections just for you.....
The 2010 Outlaw Trial is now in the History books - The 23rd running of this annual event saw 45 riders out on the two days of action in the Okanagan Valley, near Summerland BC. With the Vintage on Saturday, and the Modern on Sunday.
The 20km loops on Sunday, had two loops of 20 sections for Expert/Advanced riders, and 15 x2 for the other classes. - An early morning rain shower made the rocks slippery, but they dried out for the second loop.
Brandon Wince of Kelowna beat out Stan Bakgaard for the Expert win on the tie break, with Steve Foord in third place. Full results can be seen by clicking on www.trialscanada.com.
