    More 175 Stuff!

I'm pretty sure she never reved out from new, not that I reved it much whilst running in!! saying that its only recently that i've noticed it mainly due to my son (expert) using the bike to train on whilst his Beta is broke (again). Because, technique wise the engine needs to be reved more to climb the bigger stuff the problem has come to light, also i'm trying to improve my riding using my sons more advanced techniques so I now notice it more. I did cure some of the problem when I noticed the choke adjustment had tightened slightly on the handlebars but that only cured part of the problem. I have tried the standard jetting and reved out the bike without the airfilter and she still splutters at top revs!!!
  2. I had major problems with tennis elbow made worse from riding daily to work on a Yam FJ1100 with a stiff clutch, come the weekend even my trusty SY250's light clutch was proving to be a problem. I started taking glucosamine tablets which in conjunction with fish oil tabs relieved my aches and pains to a substantial degree. Because the pain was starting to effect my enjoyment of trials I even took the drastic step of downgrading to a 4t SY175 to which an extended clutch arm was fitted this in conjuntion with my daily dose of tablets helps me play with the bigboys on the weekends.

    More 175 Stuff!

Is anyone out there using the flat bash plate for thier 175? is it worth the $$$? Can anyone give me a comparrison between the power of the 168cc vis the 143cc? would a conversion be worth it? My 175 will not fully rev out, for 99.99% of stuff she is fine its just that .01%????? The bike has all the Birkett mods, jetting muffler etc: and the carby, plug and needle postion have all been checked. Any ideas?

    Sy 175f

I've had a SY175 for almost a year now and have competed in over 20 trials so I can put my hand on my heart and say for 90% of trials riders out there, their results wouldn't diminish if they changed from their 270/250's down to a Sy175 or any modern sub 200cc machine. Changing to a SY175 would, in the majority of cases improve their results, improve their technique and improve their bank balances!!! In answer to your questions: Here in West Aus we often compete in 30deg+ Temps with no over heating problems, there are millions of these engines (TT125's) commuting throughout the world every day in every condition imaginable i'm sure Yamaha wouldn't continue making them if they were a lemon. No I never tackle any obstacal in 3rd gear at low revs, the engine is still only a 143cc, 2nd gear will quite happily scream its way up any long hill climb. Unless your a very good rider I presume the ledges you refer too are not of the 4m vertical variety, in that case the 175 has no power problems however learning the correct technique as opposed to hanging on till you hopefully reach the top is the key. Extreem trail riding?? Nah get a T-ride!!!! Normal trail riding they are excellent on fuel, and have the long ride option for comfort, but don't expect to be screaming down the trails at 120kph!!!!!
