    175/200 Scorpa

Steveo, did the 200 have a cable or hydraulic clutch? I agree if you are going to ride the bigger stuff the 200 would be more of a challenge, depending also on how much you weigh, I weigh in at a trim 105kgs!!!!!!! One thing to be aware of the TYS does have slightly less ground clearence than the SY/beta/gasgas ( might have some thing to do with the 105kgs) My son rides with the big boys on his BETA 270 however he reakons cross training on my 175 improves his technique as he has to work for a living on the bigger stuff!!!!!!!!

    175/200 Scorpa

I can't see how a Scorpa clutch is going to be any worse than any other under 200cc bike, if your not riding experts and doing splats against 6ft walls in every other section you'll be fine. If you thinks that downsizing to a scorpa is going to be more of a challenge I think you may be dissapointed, many a baby scorpa rider has actually gone the other way and improved their riding, perhaps a ty175 would be a better choice? My 175 has a hydraulic clutch with an 1cm extension to the clutch arm, and quite frankly its the lightest, most predictable clutch i've ever had. In fact the only trouble with the baby scorpa is that er indoors keeps on shafting me for little jobs around the house because I don't spend saturday maintaining the bike ready for sunday!!!!!
  4. I think the humble TY175 must be up there, a good rider can still put in a good showing on a 34 year old bike. I think Xispa would be on to a winner if it copied a TY175 and put some decent shocks and brakes on it and then sold it for a decent price.
  5. Hi Scorpaluva, so now theres one more Scorpa175 in WA!!!! great choice of bike, i've had mine for well over a year now and love it!! If you need any assistance feel free to contact me, i'm just up the road in Mandurah. ph:95372832
  6. Maybe a change of bike might reawaken your interest, try dropping down a grade and ride a twinshock or classic!!!! I stayed in my own grade and changed to a baby scorpa from a 250 2st, maybe a change is as good as a rest....................... At the end of the day you need something to do on a sunday and trials is probobly one of the better ways of giving the misses the s**ts!!
  7. Hey i'm no stalker, in fact i'm sure that R2 pointed out to me the correct shutter speed to use as the Montesa 4RT Thumpher rider was skilfully using sound body language principles whilst passing through the trees I find stalking such a harsh word, I remember Mrs YamFan's observing attendance record dramatically improved with the introduction of the one piece lycra outfits, saying that she never bourght me one, ummmm strange!!!!

    New Exhaust?

I noticed at Hawkstone that the Scorpa's were sporting rear mufflers with only one outlet feeding out to the right hand side of the machine as opposed to the usual two, is this a 2008 mod or already standard. The bike sounds a little less bubbley/flutterey and more like the Beta's 4T, I havn't seen the mod yet in Aus. Any thourghts? Sorry I should have taken a pic!
  9. I did take some pics whilst globe trotting at Hawkstone, Evidently there was more than one rider there! Great too catch up with you guys and put a few faces to the names, saying that perhaps that might of been a mistake.......... Heath Andy and Barry might take a better picture but i've got the better angles on my subject!!!!!! Great weekend guys if you ever down under come visit.

    Gilera What ?

Ah those were the days!! Our group of terrors consisted of 5 FS1E's, 1 Gilera, 1 Malaguti Monti, 1 AP 50, 1 Honda and 2 TY50P's. Hate to say it but the Monti was the quickest when it was in one piece, saying that the last of the derestricted FS1E's (DX) with the autolube was pretty quick as well 65-70mph wasn't uncommon. I had the slowest moped the TY50p.
  11. Here's a pic of the extension fitted to my 175's clutch arm, pretty straitforward and it makes a lot of difference!!
  12. NZ trials riders are some of the friendlyest riders you can ever hope to meet especially that sirsherco chap, he loaned me his twin shock to ride in Christchurch, most enjoyable. Still waiting for him to change his name to Sirscorpa though.................. You'll find most Australasia clubs are pretty close nit and family orientated similar to the UK clubs in the 70's, have you thought about Western Australia if you can't get into NZ, plenty of work around here!
  13. Now I've signed in as myself guess what!!!!! yep found the Hawkstone park bash forum.................. Like Derrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  14. Finally persuaded "erindoors" better known here in west aus as the observer from hell!!! to take a holiday in the UK, and suprise, suprise there's a trial on around the end of July!!! I noticed there was a Trials Central Family gathering for the weekend mentioned last month and sods law as soon as i've got our airline tickets I can't find any news on any gathering!! Is there one or have we missed the boat er "plane?" Would love to catch up with you guys from the home country!!!!!! Luv YamFan
  15. I,ve checked it definatly has 175 stamped on the left hand side at the rear of the barrel!!! perhaps they only restamped a few? even so it should read 143!
  16. Just remember there 4Banger the 175 is still $A4000 less than a 250F and for the average Joe a lot easyer to handle, give a 175 a too much gas and you have time to recover, give a 250F to much gas and unless you know what your doing your going places real fast. The 250F is an outstanding bike but a lot of riders would do well to learn their trade on the 175 then spend the big bucks or buy a secondhand 250F because i'd say they will depreiciate fairly rapidly. The 175 will get the majority of riders where they want to go for the same amount of points that a bigger ride will extract, and in some cases probobly less!!!!! Just a quick one for Arnoux my 143 has 175cc imbosed on the engine, I always thourght that the correct cc had to be put on the engine? what are those crazy french up too!!!!
  17. Wish I could make my 175 dance like that, mind you he did take a soft dab on the bank!!!!!!!! I presume the bike was a 168? Notice the additions to the sump gaurd! Those banks looked pretty big considering video never gives them justice, overall not bad for a gutless/longride/4st piece of poop!!!! which if you believe everyone couldn't break the skin of a rice pudding!
  18. I'm 100kgs and have been riding a 143 for around a year now, iv'e ridden around 30 trials on her and have suffered one flat tyre and thats about it. I ride in the vets class in Aus so i'm no expert but saying that i'm no novice either so we do ride some big stuff relative to our age and size of our appendages!!!! The main problem with the scorpa as because you have no excuse to be in the garage Er in doors may get you doing all those jobs you have been putting off.
  19. We occasionally have a no view section, yep its a bit of fun however I hate riding over obstacles that I havn't previously checked out, call it my natural will to survive. Sections have to be kept simple, some riders when suddenly faced with an unviewed log they are not happy with will throw caution to the wind and attack it with gusto!!!! unfortunatly Gusto!! rhymes with Snapo!! Sorry if i'm being a Kiljoy but if i'd wanted to ride enduro I would of had a labotomy years ago!!
  20. quote"That sounds like a pretty good system. How do yo uknow which side of a colour you should pass though?" Grade markers are positioned so that they point inwards > < with an X on the reverse side, we can ride through and dislodge other grades markers to get to our gates but must ride through our gates in the correct sequencial order. A typical West Aus section would be 60m -100m long consisting of 4 - 6 gates bordered by red (right) and white (left) tape.
  21. Likelyhood of Crash _____________Catastrophic___Critical___Major_____Minor Frequent___________1________3________7_________13 Probable___________2________5________9_________16 Occasional_________4________6________11________18 Remote____________8_______10_______14_________19 Improbable________12_______15_______17_________20 LOC 1 - 5 Extreme Intolerable LOC 6 - 9 High Tolerable with Continuous Review LOC 10 - 17 Medium Tolerable with Periodic Review LOC 18 - 20 Low Acceptable with Periodic Review My riding normally has a risk assessment of around 11, that means a new clutch lever every 8.2 trials and a rear mudgaurd every 10.3 months. It can rise to around 7 if I choose to ride a grade higher where my risk of an prang is deemed Frequent/Major. If I borrow my sons 270 Beta my risk assesment rises to 2 Probable/Catastrophic which means that I can't continue with the ride unless my wife gives me a waiver. All joking aside to conduct a risk assessment as a clerk of course would mean that no one can ride unless we surround the sections in foam!!!!! and use that as mitigation.......... How do you fair in the Crash Assessment matrix????????
  22. In the UK were the various grade colours in the 60/70's fairly standard throughout the country? or was it always a miss match? Here in West Aus, grade markers havn't changed since sammy was a glint in his fathers eye!! that must mean the first settlers who arrived on the bounty and unloaded their Bultaco's must of had a uniformed system of grading brought from the mother land. Ours run from Red (AGrade) Yellow( BGrade) Blue (C&VetsGrade) and White (chicken class) with a smattering of silver for the chairs and intro markers for the small fry!!!!! On the reverse to the markers we put an X so they know the way the gate is pointing and I can honestly say that all riders know exactly where they must ride even inter state riders visiting for national events. Our GCR's (Aussie Rule Book) for all its other faults cleary state the various grades that are uniformly followed throughout Aus.

    320 Majesty

The exhausts are slightly different, my friends comes down lower as per a normal TY but in reverse. Is steve monks machine identical to my friends or the other one? (Well spotted, same bike. Now returned to its original owner)?????? The bike is in Aus and definatly not with its original owner!!!!!! Can anyone enquire with mick or shirty on the origins of this machine, is it a one off???

    320 Majesty

A friend of mine has aquired a 320 majesty for restoration and I noticed the exhaust has a different header pipe that crosses over the cylinder head, is this normal for a 320 or has it been modified?
  25. You almost look like you know what your doing there Heath, I bet the owner was paniking though!!!!!! Over here in West Aus we only have one 240 left which still plays with the big boys from time to time and gives a good acount of itself, mind you the pilot is an ex Aus champion from the 80's.....
