  1. Hi Folks. Anyone got advise on how to restore the look of the engine on the 305? Mine is starting to peel etc and thinking of doing a full restoration on it. Thanks Russell

  2. Hi all, would love a 4RT but when you google to find out who is a dealer in the UK nothing comes up for new or used, seems like they are a hidden gem. Anyone know? It used to be Pidcocks but nothing on their website, cheers Russell

  3. Hi folks, yes he is the man when it comes to Fantic, the word Guru comes to mind! but more importantly a great bloke. Great friendly service always. Cheers Russell

  4. Hi guys, think we all agree it's about time us Italjet lovers had their own forum and not have to troll through trying to find answers, let's get as many pics up as poss? And well done Petermac for getting this forum started, Cheers Russell

  5. Hi Lee, Sorry I havent ben on here for awhile hence my late reply, I have dropped the bike off with Bill Pye again last weekend and he will get to the bottom of it, I will let you all know the outcome to this long long long ongoing saga asap. Cheers Russell

Hi Russel, long time no speak....

You say carby and electricas are new? Ok.....new new or old new = another fitted? As I wrote, even new parts CAN be faulty..its not a honda and the QS systems are poor. The electrics are rewound by a guy by hand in spain if you have a stator from Bill.

...but here are some more ideas.

Is the tube on the fuel tank cap ok? Not a jiffy breather in alu..I have had these blocked? Glenn started on about the fuel tap....

Fuel Tap Ok? New from Steve Good available for about 12 quid.

Fuel Tube from Tap to Carby OK? Is an inline fuel filter fitted? Try without

Fuel filter just behind the inlet elbow on the carby ok?

    Float height correct?

    Genuine 200 Airbox WITH Trumpets?

    New airfilter, very lightly oiled?

    Airfilter Seal fitted?

Inlet rubber ok?= Take off and reseat.

Inlet Manifold to cylinder? Take off and check for leaks.

To do this start the bike and let it idle.

spray some brake cleaner into the area around the rubber and manifold. If the revs go up, you have a leak.

Is it the correct manifold? I do not know if the 200s and 125s were the same.

What about the large o-ring at the top of the slide? Or the one on choke lever mechanism?

Is the rubber cover on the gas cable that sits over the slack adjuster there?

How did you clean the exhaust? Burning out with a torch will destroy the packing in the chamber. It is wire wool. Did you cut it open and lightly repack?

The WES should not be causing the problem if its not over packed.

You say there are std jets fitted...I have had 44 pilot jets which actual varied in size...dito main jet. Maybe try the same but another...if you know what I mean.

If the plug is fouling and all above is ok, try going down on pilot and main jet. But do it one at a time. Also is the plug correct? New plug cap on the HT coil? These do break down with age.

    Got to a hotter plug?

When Bill rebuilt the engine did he notice anything odd?

I have a 300 motor which has been welded all around the crank seal behind the stator. It runs ok but if not I would suspect a leak.

If all above fails, and you need mostly time and not money to do it,

    try sellin on ebay............oops

Have fun and let os know

    Lee

  6. Hello All, Its been awhile since ive been on, a question for you all, Original Fantic 300 rear shocks - can they be re-built and if so who is best person for the job or am I best replacing them with another and if so which ones should I get to carry my 14.5ish stone around. Nearly got my 300 project finished, pics wil come soon!!!

  7. Hi guys, Need your help, This 200 of mine still hasnt improved from way back when I first started this topic, I ve tried everything, brand new electrics and coil and brand new Dellorto carb aswell from Bill Pye that I just fitted this evening and still no luck - DOING MY HEAD IN.

Tried it with the Wes tailpipe off just to see if it made a difference but it didnt, it ran the same, What could it be? running out of options and dosh.

    I wont give up though!!!!

    Cheers Russell

  8. Hi Guys,

Ive just had my 240 engine rebuilt by Bill Pye and could do with getting the frame painted, as a matter of interest how much roughly does classic trial charge to do it? (Dont worry I wont quote you!!!)

Got to keep these Fantics alive!!!

    Cheers Russell

  9. Hi Guys,

I bought the new spindal and bush kit from a friend who got it from Bob Wrights. The one I have has 2 bronze bushes and 2 roller bearings, all fitted over the spindal perfectly, but as soon as we tried to put them in the swingarm the spindal would not slide through, and now when they have been removed they no longer slide over the spindal. I wonder should i take them to a engineers to get them pressed in or get 1mm skimmed off the inside of the swingarm? I dont think there is any powder coating inside the hole. Its such a pain. What do you all think???Cheers Russell

  10. Thanks Bingo.

Its just it seems as if I am butchering the bush and the bearing, as soon as the bearing is in place also the spindal will not slide through freely enough. It just feels wrong when doing it, we had to really almost (too much)force it in and it just felt all wrong, was this the same with you?

    cheers Russell

  11. Hi All, Im in the process of rebuilding my 300 and I purchased a brand new swingarm kit inc spindal, now the copper bushes and bearing fit over spindal when it is out of the bike but as soon as i push them into the swingarm (which is super tight) the spindal will not slide through, it is as if the swingarm holes are alittle distorted or are not running true, although it all looks perfect and is in A1 condition, I have just had the swingarm powder coated aswell. After taking the copper bushes back out of the swingarm ive now found that they will now not slide over the spindal. Has anyone had this problem or does anyone know what is the solution to my problem???

    Cheers Russell

  12. Here is a picture of 1 of my Italjet 250t,I have to be honest and say that I never did any of the work on this, I bought it off the guy that restored it, I think its a great bike and a nice example, let me know what you all think? Takes you back eh

  13. Hi Guys,

All very interesting stuff and I too would like to see the before and after photos, I had the problem with painting my Fantic 200 and 240 tanks but they just blistered once fuel was in, since then I have purchased a resprayed 240 tank that has never had fuel put in since the painting, is there a sealant here in the UK that does the same as the blue lightning? and does anyone have a contact? Also great picture of the Italjet with the ultra rare front headlight still in tact, I have been trying for years to find one, I have 4 x Italjet 250t and 1 x 350t and tons of spares, all of mine need loads of work apart from 1 of the 250s which has been all done and complete with the green bottom end etc, and I think is really nice, ill try and get a picture up. Im not ready to part with any spares just now as they are all projects waiting to happen and im in the middle of doing a Fantic 300 and then my 240 will be next.

I have to say I really enjoy the Italjet 350t to ride, and it has a funny story attached to the purchase - Bought from e-bay as a non runner and having a girlfriend who thinks that the 7 bikes I have (or what she thought I had at that time as really I had 10 bikes) is just mental, I contacted the seller who like me is from Scotland except he was way up north, said that he could get the bike sent to his brothers at Aviemore, which funnily enough we were going to that weekend to a chalet with her sister and brother in law, so being the gentleman I am i made sure that we took a proper vehicle for the drive from Edinburgh to Aviemore this being a transit van, so we drive up and hang around for a day then at night the sellers brother is expecting me to pick up the Italjet, so we phone and order a curry at which I offer to go and collect with my brother in law who also new nothing about the bike collection, so in the van I fill him in and off we go down some old dirt track roads covered in snow and in the pitch dark and come across an old church style house and there was the bike, so meet the guy shake hands get it in the van then back for the curry then back to the chalet, in the morning my girlfriend and i make the journey back to Edinburgh and im taking the corners slow as the bike aint tied down in any way and is only on its side stand and she comments "i can smell petrol" to which i quickly said "dont be so stupid, the vans diesel"

Anyway I got home and got the bike in the garage without her knowing and moved the rest of the bikes around and she has never noticed to this day that another bike is there, you see the secret to having to stash your bikes is move them around alot or strip them and put them on shelfs and youl get away with it. !

11 bikes now, and that Italjet 350t just needed fuel and it started no problem, needs alot of work but plenty time to do it!!!

You can never have too many (OLD RELICS) I mean bikes!!!

    Look forward to those pictures.

    Russell

  14. Thanks for the info guys, yes I know Steve Goode and bought some parts from him, is Dave Renham the guy that has the company Inmotion Bultaco?

Would like to see a picture of your 350 Italjetfan?

Would also like to see a close up picture of the original rear brake pedal on the 350 as mine looks like its been made up?

    Cheers Russell

  15. Hi There, Thats great you got them out, I am sure the swingarm spindle is on a thread and hopefully that isnt badly damaged, I bought a Fantic 240 that some a*** welded the swingarm spindle bolt to the frame, as with all Fantics nothing is simple on them but once you get used to the method of working on them it gets easier (im still learning), I would try phoning Bill Pye 01642 722378 he is the man when it comes to anything Fantic, I know him well and he has rebuilt all of my bikes for me, what he doesnt know isnt worth knowing and he is always very happy to talk over things over the phone and has a full range of spares.Hope this helps, Cheers Russell

  16. Hi Everyone, I have a Italjet 350 and 4 x 250s and just wondered if anyone knew the correct spark plug for these and also where I could get a coil? Also 1 of my 250s had been lying for awhile and was abit of a barn find but is all there, when started revved its head off and snapped the woodruff key, any ideas what could be the cause? (the coil was an aftermarket and just didnt look right) Also need a seat and could do with some original 350 mudgaurds which I know are like hens teeth but someone must have something hiding away,Anybody with info on these bikes I would like to hear from. Cheers Russell
