  1. Best twinshock Fantic in its time was the Minarelli 200. The very last ones had 240 type forks too and the 240 style graphics on the tank and sidepanels... this is before the forward kick models.

I remember that the Minarelli ones used to whine a bit due to straight cut primary gears.... Some jerk came to buy it.. had a good test ride got it muddied up and said.. hmm there is a slight whine from the engine... I'll have to strip it down so I'll need 100 quid off... :barf:

As said in above posts it beat lots of other stuff..

The 300 had a more modern geometry, better steering, more stable etc. etc. etc. than a 240, but it was too late. The Yam mono was out and everybody else was on catch up.

I hasd a 300 and once the suspension was set up it was great... that is until i got a Yam Mono...

  2. I've just bought a Fizzy DX for my sixteener bike licence, it's a great little bike too!! I ride a TY very poorly in my local club on the easy route and I have to say I struggle with some of the sections but most of the top riders in the club are Yamaha mounted

Fizzie DX .. the one with the big disc like thing on the front that is less effective than the previous models drum?

  3. I'm really surprised that you can't get spares for the JTR... Hoses can be adapted from lots of other stuff.. Maybe if some engine parts are not available thats different, but people are keeping pre 65 stuff running, so don't chcuk the towel in too easily!

I guess that it's just the hassle that you want to avoid.

All the bikes are about the same in quality... no better than 'fair' (and most spares seem expensive too especially plastics). So you need to take your pick on performance and price.

  4. We know what he's done.. thats written in history.

    Too old for what?

The last bit of trials footage from world outdoors made me think... 'Oh he looks like hes going to hurt himself'..

I think he ought to pack it in at that level and let the whippersnappers keep on launching...

  5. Also strange ...nobody pays top dollars for a minarelli fantic. They cost the same to rebuild as a 240 or 340 (dont I know it) and then people want to pay 700 quid for one. My minarelli 200 ate 500 quid for the engine rebuild, has the all expensive 300 front brake so it stops, even has a GRP Tank and seat, and nobody wants it. I will get rid of my last standard 240 and ride the 200 because lets face it, they wiped out thze ossa 7yam/montesa/swm/ and bultaco brigade in 1980 and are just as good today.

I think these days the twin shocks trials seem easier than they did in 1980. cerntainly the damage I did to my 240 then is never likely to happen in todays stuff. Thats why people can ride yams and swms and win today. And at the end of the day, modern bikes depreciate to worthlessness very soon when you have to throw then a 1m high rocks. The twinshock stuff doesnt demand that, so it seems worthwhile restoringb them. The same is also true of aircooled monos if they survived this far.

The DT engine in that majesty will be fun but the bike could very well be ridden on the girls route at exmoor. Sometimes I think the sections could be ridden on a FSIE!

I'm sure I've got photos of Subira on a 200 with the 'new 240' motor in it from SSDT (1980 or '81??) somewhere!

Interesting about the 300 brake plate it has a floating pivot so it aligns better.. Others used a similar design without the 'torque arm extension' on the brake casting (Beta and perhap Armstrong)

More interesting is the factory 300 bikes also used the lighter normal brake plates too!

Hang on this is not about Fantics is it... Ah well sorry back to Majesty talk then..

Erm.... might as well just have a normal TY as they are as good... etc.

  6. Don't get mixed up with 'misc - jazz mags' or you might be there for a while

No the misc jazz mags are still at your house... remember that you borrowed them for some ahem 'research'

No clutch cable... just throttle cable and front brake hose (and a TYZ rear brake hose)plus some other misc !

Shedco had all the good stuff

  7. Looks like a kids bike... is it a mini Maj? .. well maybe not.. At least it's not skip worthy.

Fantic 200's are a STACK better to ride. and I mean the 'real 200' (Minarelli engined one).... oh apart from the brakes....

Strangely the last few Fantics advertised seem to be in originalish colours which is nice to see!

  8. Brill... just like all the others

A radical bike at a hefty price and they still want to entice the nutters to accessorize... can fault them (OSSA) though... why not pay a good few hundred quid more for some bits that just look different.....

But then if you have the money to waste.. why not?

    They'll be queueing

  9. Suggested the 270 conv as it is about the same price as having it rebored anyway and the power IS dead soft.

I had a few of these and the 270 is soft, when its done correctly they are really very tractable... superb, but not for launching up big things... but hey most people don't want to do this anyway.

The main benefit of a proper Andrews (or Bikett) conversion is the shortened inlet... makes it a bit more responsive.

The other thing to do to make it rev better is to but a thicker head gasket on it. Yes! not to soften it as such but we found that it made the bikes run cleaner and rev better with the slightly lower compression... honest!

  10. Old trials fanatic, I applaud your stance

    But question your consistency!

I'd have said go and play golf if you want to behave like scum... Re: Bob Carolgees and Spit!

Kick the rider out of the event ...nay out of the ACU ... Riders are easier to get than officials who sit out in all weathers... very few of the officials want to be 'gods' ... those that do need to be humoured!

  11. You could turn up at most club trials and ride any class you want? Beginer, Clubman, 50-50 (If your brave) Expert (if your insane)

Yes it dosn't fit into the Twinshock, Air Cooled Mono etc. etc class, but someone could put the bum on any old bike and have a bit of fun if that is what he or she wants without the judges condeming them <_<

No!!!!!!! 'tis the work of the Devil!

    BURN IT !!!

  12. Nice stuff!

I had my footrests modded like that on my Monos... were easier on the boots and feet!

That casing protector may not be as good as it could be (it looks nice though)... the better ones also used the mount on the 'top roller' otherwise a 'big chain off' just moves the whole of the protector and casing lugs off the engine.

Also not sure if you slam a few rocks over there in Tulsa, but I didn't notice you had modded the front bash plate mounting... we used to fit a second bolt in the front mounting (and better to make them with a dowel type fitting so they are a tight fit too) to stop it rocking .. this rocking used to result in cracked flywheel casings!

  13. I completely agree that you can end up stuck there for easy half an hour if you dont make the decision to put the board down. If the board is passed to the next rider it flows well but its not that simple. We put the boards at the end of the section if we cant get observers but it always seems to be the same few that will get off their bikes and pick the board up. As stated we could rant about this for pages and pages. Hopefully we will get a full quota of observers for this weekends event.

Tricky... surely you know the real reason!

Most of the trials riders who don't pick the board up to observe are thicko's... Think yourself blessed that you can observe and the others dont ... just think what scores would be written down!!!

"twelveteen" "4" "wibble" or "X" etc.
