    Mot Req?

I have also recently fallen foul of the new number plate rules. I now have a flat plastic one for the MOT that would last about 5 minuets in a trial and a curved one for actual use. My bike is not fitted with a rear reflector. The tester checked the manual and was satisfied that a reflector on a bike with a day time only MOT was un-necessary. I read the manual myself and was left totally confused. But what is the point of this item during the day? The bike type Speedo are more than satisfactory to satisfy the law. I understood that it was a requirement to have a speedo fitted but it was not checked during the test, but there seems to be some confusion on this. I have just MOT
  2. Dab-man That is what is known as centre restricted permit. I.e. the event is open to a member of any club in the centre that issued the permit. In the Eastern centre most trials are run with this level of permit. The big problem with this is making sure that dates do not clash with other clubs and therefore splitting the entry. All clubs in the Eastern Centre submit dates to the competition committee late in the year for the following year then sit back and wait to see what they have been allocated. About this time of year we all find out the dates allocated and then fall out with each other about who actually got what. The funny thing is we all ride each others events and even on many occations go along to other clubs and help peg banging etc. Who would want to be on a club committee? Stuart
  3. There is a copy of Bernies book on ebay at the moment item no 4514811709 ebay observed trials Bernie Schreiber Also keep a look out for a couple of books by Don Smith Stuart Penfold
  4. It depends on the ACU permit of the event. Permits can be issued for Closed to club (only members of the club may ride), Restricted Invitation (members of up to 10 invited clubs) Center Restricted (open to any member of a club in permit issuing center) and Regional restricted (open to club members in up to 3 invited ajoining centers) and National (open to all) The regulations should state what type of permit the event is being run under. Stuart
  5. How can this be correct? What about all the youth riders, are these riders suposed to comply with the road traffic act despite being under age to actually hold a licence. Stuart
  6. Twinshock< the rider who roade round the bottom of a climb crossed his own track, so should have been 5'd You have missed my point on this one. One rider rode the section non stop( not crossing his own line) but had two dabs, score on card 2. Other rider hoped, including backwards and got a clean on the score card! Ok to keep the debate going. I appreciate that it definatly used to be a 5 to cross your own track and many observers will give a 5 for this whilst others do not, but checking the 2004 ACU handbook it makes no mention of this ( or at least I was unable to find it). Is this a failure or not ? Stuart
  7. In the Eastern Centre, we normally run "no stop" for the old buggers (that's me!) at pre 65 and Twinshock events and the "hop and bounce antics" rules at events for modern bikes. However, the vast majority of the observers we have are girlfriends or other press-ganged helpers that have never read the rules let alone know the difference between TSR 22 and TSR 22A. And many have never ridden in an event. I recently attended an Eastern Centre championship round and for once was determined not to observe but have a walk round instead. This was being run under the rules allowing stopping (I can never remember which is which). I noticed many riders hoping bikes both backwards and sideways without forward motion and stopping. At most sections, this was going unpeanalised, as the observers simply do not know the rules. I witnessed one rider attempt a mud climb riding around the bottom turn into the climb non stop but had 2 dabs near the top whilst another rider stopped at the bottom, hoped the back wheel sideways, then the front wheel sideways without forward motion and then bounced the bike backwards several times to get the longest run up. This second rider made the climb and did not dab once and was given a clean by the inexperienced observer. In my opinion, the standard of observing makes our centre championship a bit of a lottery as to what riders have managed to get away with. Most organisers of which I am one do not seem too concedrned about this standard of observing, just grateful to get volunteers and are very careful not to upset them. Stuart
  8. I currently have 5 twinshock Bultaco's Can I vote 5 times ? Stuart
  9. The book for our 04 280 pro says 525ml. If you put this much in it chucks most of it out the breather tube. I spoke to GAS GAS UK who said that they put in 400ml. With this amount the sight glass is still fully covered and it also stilll chucks some oil out the breather, but this seems to soon stop when it finds it's own level. I have positioned the breather pipe over the rear chain so at least the surplace oil is doing somthing. Stuart.
  10. We had a similar problem with stiction on a 2000txt 249. On inspection the replaceable bushes seemed clean but after a couple of strips and rebuild the problem would not go away. Finally decided to replace these bushes and problem solved. Stuart.
