    Ossa Yellow Gripper

178 hits and no replies. Has anyone here heard of the 1980 Yellow Gripper? Any chance I could get this thread switched to the "Twin Shock" Forum?

    Ossa Yellow Gripper

Was at Jim Hoellerich's museum this past weekend and saw two beautiful 1980 Yellow Grippers. I would like to know how these bikes compare to similar twin shocks and how well they perform in competition. Any information is appreciated.
  3. Thanks, I knew there had to be a reason. Just the web site alone leads you to believe they would be good folks to do business with.
  4. Emailed Rock Shocks last week with all information regarding the bike and myself, but never heard back from them. Are they hard to get a hold of? Too busy? How's the service? Maybe they're on vacation?
  5. What do you folks have to say about the new Betor Aluminum body shocks? I have steel body Falcons on my bike now, but am just curious about the Betors. Also, probably a stupid question, but what determines the weight of the springs that are offered, 40 or 50 pound springs, if my weight is around 150 pounds? Any information is appreciated.
  6. I was quoted $509.00 for the Steel Gasser Series. Not sure what the Alloy ones go for. http://www.worksperformance.com/ mailto:sales@worksperformance.com

  8. Here are pages of Vintage Trials bikes. Will take some time to see them all. http://www.advrider....ad.php?t=489179
  9. Still haven't seen or heard more about the 'drilled spokes'. Looking forward to it. Hadn't heard of that one.

    Trials Shocks

Yikes, I can't believe it. 227 views and only one offer of advice. Guess everyone likes old Betors or new Falcons. Thanks feetupfun.

    Trials Shocks

I'm sure this topic is similar to asking what type of oil you use, but I'll ask anyhow. I have a Penton/Wassell trials bike that I've been competing with regularly. Right now I have an old set of Betor shocks I took off my Ossa MAR. I want to replace these old Betors with a modern style shock, and would like some opinions from you folks as to what you would recommend. The only thing I do know is I've seen new Betors that didn't make it through a season (bent). And I've read about others leaking. Any advice will be appreciated.
  14. Hello Morten, Very nice find. Can you tell me what shocks you are using and how you like them? Thanks
  15. The woods of Rhode Island will come alive during the 5th Annual New England Vintage Trials Championship at the Rhode Island Trials Club facilities on Escoheag Road in Exeter, RI on Saturday September 25, 2010. The event gets more popular every year, and almost 30 riders competed on the slippery rocks in 2009. Veteran Wayne Galvin lost out in a close battle with former New England trials champion Danny Allen; both riders were on Bultaco Sherpas. The first US round of the World Trials Championship was held at the same location in 1975, and much of the same rocky terrain will be incorporated into this year
  16. OK, Now that that has been recommended, lets get back to the task at hand. I want to know what would be a good 4 stroker to put in my Wassell frame.
  17. Hello, I have a Wassell trials bike with a Sachs 1251/5A in it. I have heard of and would like to put a BSA motor in it. I'm a two stroke guy and don't know anything about BSA single 4 strokes. What type / model / size should I be looking for? This bike will be 100% Trials. Any help and advice will be appreciated. If anyone has a different or better idea on a 4 stroke motor for this frame, please chime in. Thanks
  18. Hello, Looking to make my Ossa clutch a little easier to pull. I have a Teflon cable. Just wondering if anyone has done anything with springs. Taking all suggestions. Thanks.
  19. This is exactly what is happening with the steel rims on my Wassell. With my Ossa I can run 4 pounds with no trouble. To tell you the truth, I never new the Dunlops on the Ossa were tubeless until I looked today. So, I guess from everyones advice, I could try an IRC Tube Type, on the Wassell rims, since I weigh in around 150 pounds.
  20. Is there a difference in sidewall stiffness between the two? These tubeless ones seem stiff, even with 4 pounds of air pressure. And they come off the bead, on steel rims, if I don't run at least 6 pounds.
  21. Is there anything wrong with using a Tubeless Dunlop D803 with a tube in it, on my vintage Twin shock? How different are the two tires; Tube Type & Tube Less. I thought I ordered Tube Type, but just realized they say Tubeless on the side. Again, they are Dunlop D803's. Thanks
  22. I would agree with Jim. Later Honda's are more common and dominate. Most, or a lot of events consider any bike with twin shocks and drum brakes to be Vintage. So the later TLR's are plentiful and very competitive. At least I think that's what Jim is saying.
  23. Now this is the advice I was looking for. I don't want to buy cheap shocks. And yes, I will own a rigid bike one day. But for now I'm trying to get this one going. Thanks folks, I have a TY350 and didn't think of comparing the ride to see what to look (feel) for. All great advice.
  24. Hi folks, I would like some feedback in regards to rear shocks. I have restored a couple twin shock bikes, and I ride vintage trials. But I will be honest and say, I really don't know the difference between good shocks and bad, or what they should be doing, besides holding up the seat. Or I should say, I'm not a good enough rider to tell the difference when I try different ones. What should a good pair of shocks do on a twin shock trials bike? What is the difference between a pair of rebuilt 70's shocks and a pair of $300.00 modern shocks, designed specifically for trials? I fully understand that you get what you pay for. But what am I looking for? I'm not looking for what kind of shocks to buy, as much as I'm looking for how the shocks should react to certain trials situations. Spongy or stiff.
  25. Not sure which motor you had. This is the iron barrel 1251/5A. I have an 11 tooth coutershaft with a 64 rear. Plenty of bottom end for a 60's 125cc. Obviously not like my MAR or TY, but she can crawl. I haven't competed with it yet. First event will be in April.
