  1. Rode for an hour today, no leak! Yay.. Carb was easier to set too, no rich/lean!

Unrelated now, but were the 06 and the 08 tanks completely different, the taps in a different posistion, and a bigger cut away near the muff... Could do with one like this on my newer bike, as the tank hits the carb top with the keihin, something the 06 tanks doesnt.

So, my question to you's, is there anyway to reshape these tanks slightly, only needs to be a 20 or 30mm difference!

Heat gun maybe, or is it a case of major fiddling with the carb and manifolds for a better fit?

  2. Had the bike running... had a few dribbles, lost about 5ml so far, fan cycled on once. No time to test properly though as I haven't refitted the wheels or anything, changing the bearings whilst it's apart.

The loss of oil is considerably less than before, it was p***ing out. Think it's just everything settling.

Will find out for sure tommorow!

Edit: Copey, seals were dropped off with the posty today, wont get sorted or sent till monday though, as our local office is just a shed, and doesnt sort on weekends. Will be with you soon, no doubt.

  3. I thought 10-44 is standard, but everyone runs 9-44 on the 125 to make the most of the low down power of the sherco. I've been running a 48 rear, but couldnt get the speed needed in places. So yeah, those listed are correct.

  4. Test ride verdict - N/A

Storms hit the area pretty bad, so working with the old man clearing fallen tree's and felling those at risk of falling... Will be a while till I get some more garage time unfortunately... sit tight and be patient guys

  5. Yes, he does seem a good-un! If he werent so damn dense he might have read the other posts!

Ok, let me just politely inqiure, JAMIE, DO YOU WANT TO SEND ME THEM OTHER SEALS YOU GOT AND I WILL SEND YOU SOMETHING IN EXCHANGE!

Would you like some Tygon fuel hose, along with maybe some other bits?

Oooh, hadn't even seen that, sorry Cope... Maybe I am a bit dense, and that being an understatement. I'll drop you a Pm now!

  6. Shercoman, give yourself some more credit, sounds like you hit the nail right on the head when you mentioned funny idle, hi lo, it sounds like vacuum leak drawing your oil, I think your on the right track when you mentioned crank seals and case gaskets, that's just from a mechanics point of view. Good luck

Thanks there, although I must say, alot of this was down to Mark and Tony... I had a rough idea with the hi-lo thing, and both seals that came out were pretty worn, but they've helped me through the stages of diagnosing the problem, testing to make sure and then repairing the problem, thanks for the stuff you chipped in with too Ham and Neo!

  7. Removed the right hand side seal, and out with it came a load of gearbox oil, seal was definately worn! Popped out with no effort atall, and dispite scotlands posties being on strike today, the new seals and gasket still came, so there both in, just gonna tighten everything up, get the clutch back together, wham the side casing on, top up oil and coolant and test! Considering the oil came out with the seal, I think it must of been that, well I hope.

    Heres to success!

Cheers guys, and a happy halloweeen to you all!

  8. Are you on the 28 K carb? If so, screw the inside port against the muff, and put in the one on the left side if available. You gotta drill out that port, yet the provisions are there.

Oh really? I saw the port, but no hole... so wondered what the hell it was doing there, never realised it could be used as a vent.

Will get onto that before the bikes back together.

  9. Bloody postal strikes, halted progress now I guess... Was hoping to get her sorted this weekend.

There seems to be a big bit, then a bit the seal sits in, and a bit beyond that? I stopped the bigger seals before evn touching anything too small, didnt get squeezed or hammered in so they're good... For

  10. I would stay away from any long tubes(Jamie), I prefre no longer than the bowl. This(hopefully) allows minimal negative bowl pressure produced by any trapped fuel in the hose.

It is an odd thing that happens, but a droplet in a hose can be similar to an air bubble in a way, and difficult to move! This works against the bowl pressure and can have very negative effects.

    .

I forgot all about negative pressures, that may explain my poor running on times.

So one short hose, with a few holes along it? then wrap it in a fine mesh like the mudguard mesh to stop the **** blocking the inside of the pipe?

  11. That second recess you're talking about is to make sure the seal is away from the bearing.

How did you end up going about removing the crank gear?

Hmm.. Anyways, new seals on the way. Dispatched yesterday.

Haven't removed the gear yet, but i've got a flywheel puller that does fit behind it, just... may file it down a tad more, but im leaving the gear on until im ready to do the seal on this side.

  12. Once again I am unsure exactly what you have done?

The seals listed for the 125 are M219, size 25-35-7

The ones for the 2.5 and 2.9 are M032, size 25-40-7, a 5mm difference in OD if the numbers are correct. You Cannot install one, yet I suppose if one did try to pound the thing into the 5mm smaller hole it would indeed still protrude just about 7mm outside the case!

Just send them back id they are not damaged, although I am not sure if you beat the one to fit or not!

I think Neo knows if these listed dimentions are correct or not. Hell, at the rate these things are going, I may well need some soon myself.

The outer diameter is slightly larger, They were not pounded in, there appears to be a small recess, then a deeper, smaller one behind.. I didnt force it right in, hence why its still protuding.. Whipped it out, it appears fine, going to phone splatshop tommorow to see if they'll accept them. Although new ones have been ordered from Chris himself. Going to give myself a bloody good slap, some decent sleep, and then try again...

  13. And the trouble continues... Gutted!

After ordering Sherco part number M127, Viton seals for the smaller 125 engine... I go to fit them, and they appear slightly too large. Okay, fit the one, they appear a good fit.. but dont sit flush with the casing. So I go and check my invoice... The part numbers different, and after reffering to my parts book, I find Im now in possession of two viton seals for a 250. Anybody want them? Both still spotless. They'll fit the 250 and 290. No deformed area's or anything on them, drop me a message.

So, I'll wait another few days for my seals to come... Then maybe, just maybe we can get on and get this thing sorted!

  14. That'll be the mark 2 version if it turns out the hose is needed. The hole for fitting over the vent will have to be either stepped or a electrode made with matching taper

Jamie, if you look in the same section of that site you'll find the right angled fitting I was thinking of trying. Only thing is not knowing whether the sizes are outside diameter or the more common way of labelling hoses on inside diameter, most likely to be too big anyway. Your idea of split vent sounds worth a try & I've seen something similar before

Hmm, I saw that right angled elbow, it looks awfully small for a 6mm 1/4" inner diameter. I have a 90 degree elbow sitting here which is for a 6mm ID hose, the blokes down the automotive store gave me it with my last lot of hosing in the packet, which I just want to mention, they gave for free. Its originally a battery acid breather, but fits great in fuel hose or on the carby!

Going to try out some of these on my keihin whilst the bikes in peices, see what I can come up with!

  15. Hmmm, need to come up with something like this for my keihin, breathers always touching the exhaust in standard form.

What'd you guys reckon about blocking the one breather with epoxy, and running one tube from the exhaust side breather, to the rear of the bike, where it can split into two hoses using an aquariam style splitter? one going to by the shock, the other going to by the brake pedal? Looks neater with the fewer hoses on view, and still unlikely to block both hoses?

    Something like this

    http://www.overclock.co.uk/product/Danger-...tting_8016.html

  16. Hmmm, always looks dirtier in photo's... was given a wash an a scrub before stripping to avoid any contaminents getting in the engine. Must of missed some.

Sorry it's taken so long, been working throughout the school holidays, will be onto it all tommorow, friday and the weekend.

Yeah, our fuels are alcahol induced, some stations say there fuels are methanol free, turns out they use ethanol instead. Believe the only two local garages that sell 98 octane gas are laced with alacahol to some stupid amount, the stuff from esso, has water in it straight out the pump, beleive this is also due to the alcahol? I've got an alcahol meter for wine making and beer making, shall test the fuel from both garages with it, I know the stuff from esso is ec10!

I can see pencil marks... not clear, but faint, will go over them with a scribe tommorow so they dont rub off! Got a torqued airgun anyways, perfect too! set to 70 ft/lbs neither nut would come undone, increase that to 75 and they came undone with a few shots of the gun, very accurate!

Got the holders too, just so I can check torque settings after.

Cheers for all the help so far!

    Jamie

  17. Well... It's apart. Guess what?

    Black seals!

    IMG_0425.jpg

Also a lot of crud behind the flywheel, cant of been sealed properly after whoever was in there last had it apart!

Stator was filthy, but the coils were clean!

    IMG_0426.jpg

No progress gear side... Still stuck on there... I've manafactured a puller for it though so should be off in a small while. You can see the casing damage here though. Should be back together and tested on monday evening, hopefully!

    IMG_0424.jpg

Bike in its current state, just begging to be fixed and ridden!

  18. Gonna whip the flywheel off, and the gear off tommorow and get the seals out, it will be interesting to see what they are, maybe later 08 bikes used a different type of seal due to lack of stock? Makes me wonder whats in the 09's. Get the new ones in hopefully, and the gear back on... clutch basket is off so i can take pictures to show you guys.

There's certainly something been flying around in there, what... I dont yet know... its certainly not as small as the broken chunk. The rear of the clutch basket has a few dents in it, and the rivets stick quite far out. Could the previous owner caused this when dismantling the bike, or is there something a little more sinister causing these problems?

We will find out in less than twelve hours.

  19. About twenty miles on roads/tracks, maybe more... depends on the bike. Add a little more oil to your fuel and lean off the mixture slightly, probably get 30 out of it in that case.

Not sure about pootling around, but you can get about 10-12 miles on a trial loop. I get about 3-4 hours out of a tank when just messing around in the garden.

  20. Easy tiger,I've heard of it before, perhaps I should have put it like this:

I once looked at that arrangement and I thought; 'That looks like a great place to jemmy from'...Doh!...then I thought again...

The 6wd socket thing?..I can't remember if it was a standard size (imperial/metric/mis-sized?) or not?

    Just covering my back :guinness:

Anyways, all mine are metric... Not sure if yours will of been but chances are it was... When you say sprocket and shaft, you do mean the output/drive shaft yes?
