  1. I fully polished and ported my engine, easy and free to do

    V-force reeds

    Ti pipe with insert

    Keihin pwk28 carb

High compression head (came from a mate in canada) Look out for them second hand.

    Iridium spark plug

High octane fuel will be require with all this...

Pipe and carb made such a difference, and are reliable on the sherco!

  2. I know this is quite a long shot, but bike got hit by a rolling boulder today... leaving a big beastly dent in the downtube of the frame. Not good. Anyway to remove/repair this? Pics in a bit.

  3. Given what you say about problem suddenly appearing after initially running OK, I'd check out float needle valve seating for debris as suggested by others.

Doubt if float level is the problem unless you adjusted it after oil change. Personally, I'd leave off adjusting float level as it must have been OK in first place given description of problem.

Agree that good practice to shut off fuel tap however it shouldn't be necessary if carb working OK.

In past on numerous occassions I've forgotten to turn off fuel after trial... trailered bike home.. washed it ...run it to dry off without any starting problem... put away for several days and when came to use again fuel tap still open!!...fired up no problem.

Suppose this proves I've a cr*p memory and repeat same mistakes.

I will once again, remove the carb and give it another full clean. Thanks.

whilst not wanting to be pedantic.. you spend 4 grand on something and three weeks later it wont work.... and how do you fix it? a phone call to the seller would be my suggested alternative rather than spending more time ripping it apart than riding the thing..

Nearer five :P Phonecall to the seller would do pretty much bugger all, put it down to trials wear and tear as quite often done, and then what? Another

  4. it should have a overflow pipe on carb.make sure it goes to open air

Never seen a Dellorto with overflow pipes, but it might be telling me to get myself a Keihin :P

    How old is bike

    Was it OK when new

    Did problem suddenly appear

    Bike is three weeks old.

    Absoloutely perfect when new.

Problem suddenly appeared, first noticed when trying to start after changing gearbox oil so after about 8 or 9 hours riding.

I agree with Max and Pete always turn the fuel off, particularly when travelling, also you need to check the float valve in the carbie and clean the valve itself and the insert it seals against, a small amount of grit can cause this valve to dribble slightly causing your problem. You need to take off the brass tang that operates the floats to get to the valve. Also make sure all the vent hoses on the carbie are clear and not kinked or blocked. I also find when starting my 300 not to use any throttle when hot or cold. Hope this helps

    Cheers Greg

Had a trial last night, turned the fuel off a few minutes before putting it in the van to drain the bowl. Will see if it starts today okay.

  5. Most of the time, yes... Could be the problem, use a trailer.

I would take it to the dealer, but its an 800 mile round trip. Compatant mechanic though, carbs been off, all jets checked cleaned, choke assembly cleaned, mixture set according to manafacturers spec.

Will try making sure to turn the fuel off, and see then... but it does it even when sat still in the garage over night.

If this doesnt solve the problem, I'll whip the flywheel off and check for moisture :P

Copey - dont have the money for a spare coil, spent every last penny of mine on the bike :P Finding it very nice to ride, and a slightly more capable bike than the Sherco, hate to say it, but I dont think I'll be riding one again for a while, despite being great bikes. Gonna stick with the gassers for a while :)

    Thanks guys!

  6. Hey all, started having a rather annoying problem with my 2010 Gas Gas Txt Racing. The bike is a 125, should this make any difference.

Anyway - The bike will not start from cold on the kick start, I end up running down the road and bump starting it. I dont know whats causing this, but often, if I manage to finally kick her into life, she'll run as if choked for five minutes or so with lots of smoke. If I bump start her, it'll run fine.

The bike is quite hard to bump start also, takes two or three attempts.

The kickstart mechanism is not damaged atall, so it is delivering the normal stroke to the starter gears.

The bike kickstarts when warm easily.

So far, I have put it down to the fuel mix... Too much oil solidifying slightly on the plug as it cools due to too much oil in the mix and fouling the plug, the plug is often black when taken out, but the plug works perfect, and I have tried multiple plugs.

I use Ipone Samurai Racing, strawberry - 80 ml's to a Gallon of super unleaded. Just ordered a Castrol oil, see if this makes any difference.

Carb has been cleaned thoroughly, multiple times. Airbox and air filter are clean. Airbox has all modifications done and flaps fitted.

When started, occasionally the bike will run choked, and not rev out atall, occasionally at revs feel like someones holding the kill button, but once the bikes warmed up and the problem cleared (five minutes or so) it will run perfect. This is why I think its a problem with something ON the plug, as its almost like an intermittent spark when cold, but when hot (crud burnt off?) it doesn't have a single problem.

I'm completely stumped, normally I'm alright at solving problems like this, but not on this occasion.

All help greatly appreciated, its more embarrasing than annoying, turning up at a trial and having to bump start the bike.

    Thanks,

    Jamie

  7. why can u not get in to it on a 280? u should get about 1500 ish for it. it all depends on the nick of it and if it looks good sounds good

    I'm assuming he's too young.

Depends on the condition really, but anything between

  8. 10-40 semi synthetic, available in the gallon from your nearest motorfactors. Doesnt have to be gear specific in the sherco, I used engine oil and it worked perfect for the two years I had the bike :rotfl:

    New bike?

  9. Are they bike boots that you're wearing, or just hiking boots?

Anyway, the real point here isnt that.

Break the section into individual parts.

    Part one

    1) Start from where you start...

    2) Creep forward, use more revs but continue to slip the clutch.

    3) About one foot away from the first part of the obstical, dump the clutch completely, should give you a kick up onto it as if you were wheelying but easier to control.

[use only enough revs to give you a kick to the top of the obstical when the clutch is dumped, no more. Try to keep the wheel low, but still off the ground once up]

    Part two

    1) Quickly dump the clutch with quite a bit of throttle., and quickly yet powerfully load and unload the suspension... Move your weight right back and then forward as you launch. All about timing here, sure you can work it out. Remember to cover the brakes for when you clear the gap. You want to stop as close to the gap as possible. Could possibly put a small rock down to try and give you a little kick across the gap to begin with while you work on timing.

Keep trying this until its done, you dont need to stop completely at this part, you can roll slowly.

    Part three

(I assume you want to get up onto the slab of rock that you keep falling before or going round)

    1) Build the revs up, and dump the clutch again, preload the suspension and unload it quickly, pulling the front up with you so the bike is at more of a vertical posistion, and the wheel slams against the rock, once the rear seems to be at the top, touch the brake to bring the front down :rotfl:

If theres any parts you dont understand, just say... Having not been there before, its a bit hard to see what you're trying to do.

You may find it easier to keep under control in 1st to begin with, second on the sherco is quite a fast gear.

And remember, keep that brake covered!

  10. have you checked your water level and if low just fill to the top will distilled water and anti freeze. The fan should not be on all the time mate :rotfl:

No no no no - Distilled water is still very corrosive. What you're after is deionized water :)

  11. I find getting a raw bolt from your local hardware store is a major help. Never mind trying to tap them out evenly with a drift and hammer, just place the rawbolt inside the wheel, tighten it up so it expands widthways, make sure it is very tight and tap with a hammer. Should knock them out nice and clean. Soak around the bearing with penetrating fluid for easier removal. Quick job if you can pick the knack up

  12. Perhaps someone could explain the science behind an airbox, and why a simple air filter isn't adequate enough. I have a 76 TY175 and have read on the forums here that the stock airbox does not provide adequate flow and should be "opened up". After taking a close look at my airbox I agree it could benefit from some extra venting but am considering removing it all together in exchange with a filter - no box at all. As this seems all to simple I pause to wonder why it isn't more common place? Is there some science involved with the airbox or what??

    Thanks from a newbie!

The airbox protects the air filter, and air intake from direct mud and water contact, quite common on trials bikes... Acts as a barrier to keep crap away from the actual filter. If they're still putting airboxes on bikes today, they obviously have a use... therefore best keeping your airbox on!

  13. Pour some into a metal dish and heat gently, as the fuel evaporates off you should be left with an oily residue, measure the oil. Divide how much fuel you evaporated off by this quantity, and there you go... Rough indication of mixture.

Only works occasionaly, may take a few goes to get the oily residue. Dont use much!

  14. Shamus and Murphy fancied a pint or two but didn't have a lot of money between them, they could only raise the staggering sum of one Euro.

Murphy said 'Hang on, I have an idea.'

He went next door to the butcher's shop and came out with one large sausage.

Shamus said 'Are you crazy? Now we don't have any money at all!'

Murphy replied, 'Don't worry - just follow me.'

He went into the pub where he immediately ordered two pints of Guinness and two glasses of Jamieson Whisky.

Shamus said 'Now you've lost it. Do you know how much trouble we will be in? We haven't got any money!!'

    Murphy replied, with a smile. 'Don't worry, I have a plan , Cheers! '

They downed their Drinks. Murphy said, 'OK, I'll stick the sausage through my zipper and you go on your knees and put it in your mouth.'

The barman noticed them, went berserk, and threw them out.

They continued this, pub after pub, getting more and more drunk, all for free.

At the tenth pub Shamus said 'Murphy - I don't think I can do any more of this. I'm drunk and me knees are killing me!'

Murphy said, 'How do you think I feel? I can't even remember which pub I lost the sausage in.'

A Banker parks his brand new Porsche in front of the office to show it off to his colleagues.

As he's getting out of the car, a lorry comes speeding along too close to the kerb and takes off the door before zooming off.

More than a little distraught, the Banker grabs his mobile and calls the police.

Five minutes later, the police arrive. Before the policeman has a chance to ask any questions, the man starts screaming hysterically: 'My Porsche, my beautiful silver Porsche is ruined. No matter how long it's at the panel beaters it'll simply never be the same again!'

After the man finally finishes his rant, the policeman shakes his head in disgust.

'I can't believe how materialistic you bloody Bankers are,' he

says. 'You lot are so focused on your possessions that you don't notice anything else in your life.'

'How can you say such a thing at a time like this?' sobs the Porsche owner.

The policeman replies, 'Didn't you realise that your right arm was torn off when the truck hit you.'

The Banker looks down in horror.

'OH MY GOD!' he screams........'Where's my Rolex????....

  15. Hey all,

This Sundays Ally Beag Memorial trial up Glen Nevis is at risk of being postponed due to low rider numbers, quite important as this is a round of the Scottish support championships. If you are interested in getting a ride, please get in touch with the Lochaber & District Secretary asap!

    Any help much appreciated.

    Terry

I think they only have five gears
