  1. so what i have found is that you will need to lean the fueling out and maybe retard the ingnition if you get detination there seems to be no exact rule each bike is not the same hope this helps

Normally the adition of alcohol requires richer jetting, as you are essentially running watered down gas. There may be other factors at play though.

  2. Woody is right from my (very) limited experience, the Electrex system on mine has not needed touching to be fair, i just followed the instructions and when strobed it was bang on where it needed to be, but the 'mare of working out degrees v's BTDC is not something I like spending my days getting my head around.

I believe the BultacoUK option is the real "plug and play" solution between the two. From what I've seen/heard/learnt over the past week, the BultacoUK option is the one I'd go for if I were doing it again, as it was I saved less than

  3. More than you think in Oregon alone, one even in Boring.

    /quote]

I checked the Washington list and it is way out of date. There are stations listed that I know no longer have ethanol free gas. Hopefully Oregon is in better shape.

I'm going to check Idaho next. When I fill my truck in ID I get 2 MPG more than when I fill in WA. And it's cheaper in ID as well.

  4. My clutch slips a little bit when kicking the lever in warmer weather. I've never been able to discern any slipping while riding though. That's the main reason I took it apart. Every thing looked good so I put it back together. I imagine ATF would minimize the slipping, but it always starts despite the slipping, and works well with light gear oil.

I'm afraid it will be some time before I can give it the warm weather test <_< .

  5. Great pics,That's the way I want to use the Sherpa,I'll do a few mods to trialsize it a bit more(move footpegs, trials handlebars) and just putter around like the Grandpa I have become,I get my competition jollies from trials now,My KTM 380 EXC days are behind me,But I'm having more fun riding now than ever!

You would probably like my TTR230 dualsport.

  6. If you don't mind what kind of price range did you get quoted on the T-Ride?

I just bought a used Super Sherpa to ride 'cause I just got tired of the bigazz 640LC4 in the woods.

One lap around my tiny backyard before the inclement weather set in convinced me that I've made the right D/S choice, may take some work to fit a trials tire to the rear, but that's not really important for how I'm gonna use it.

Attached you will find a brochure of the all new 2011 Scorpa T-Ride. Finally you can get the most agile off road Hybrid dirt bike available. This is available through pre orders only. Retail is $8100.00. They are imported as off road only and available for sale in all states except for California . Please contact me if you are interested in purchasing a T-Ride. 7. I'd like to hear some evaluations from those that have used them.

It seems to me that a 325 has plenty of power, but I wonder if an ignition with an advance curve would noticeably widen the power band by letting the engine rev higher.

That would likely rerduce the need for shifting in a section.

  8. Well reading #4 in one of the above post:

One foot down on both sides of the bike at the same time.

AHRMA (and I think others)count this as an automatic 5 for that section.

    From the 2011 AHRMA rulebook, page 75;

    7) Touching both feet to the ground at the same time while astride the machine = 2

points (one dab for each foot).

  9. I just inspected the clutch on my 199A and found that the clutch plates use no friction material, just steel on steel. They were in pretty good shape so I put it back together with 75wt synthetic gear oil and it works well.

I'm just wondering if that is the original type clutch and if there are any special oil recomendations for it. I know you guys will know.

  10. I can think of 3 cases in recent years that we had a new rider come to one of our events (all middle aged to senior men, all on Gas Gas Pro models) that proclaimed that "Trials is too tough for me" and never came back. I don't know about other clubs but ours could sure use three more members. Also if your easiest line can't be ridden safely on a trail bike then you are eliminating the possibility of new riders trying out the sport before they invest in, or can afford, a Trials bike.

I did not marshall any of the above mentioned events. When setting up sections, if I can't clean the novice line in two trys on my XR 250, I change it so I can. Then I put in a beginner line that's easier yet, I call it "Novice B". I advertise the Novice B class as being suitable for first time riders, trail bikes and small wheel Trials bikes. When a new rider shows up that has substantial off road experience with a Trials bike I recommend that they skip the Novice B class and start in the Novice class.

  11. I just installed a two stage throttle body on my 4rt. I loaded a map called "zog 3" into mode 2 and left the standard map in mode 1 (07RTL). I am looking for a softer hit for intermediate level riding by an old guy. I just test rode it today and the 2 modes are so close that I'm not completely confident that I got the milder map loaded, although when I hit the "data read" button it says I did.

Does anyone have experience with these two maps and can you confirm that the percieved difference is very, very, subtle? They look quite different on the graphs.

I'm also confused by statements that the program can only read the last map loaded. Does that mean that if I select mode 1 and "data read" that it will read mode 2 if that is where the last map was loaded?

    Pleae help, I'm so confused.

  12. Not wanting to burst your bubble but had an 05 for several years then changed to a S/H 09 with S3 280 kit fitted.Could not get on with it and even tried several maps but converted back to 250 std with Sains map. Love it again now.

Are you guys that are running the Sains map on 250s using the ignition map only, or both fuel and ignition?

  13. i just bought a cota 4rt 05. The clutch is like on/off. Someone told me to install the bigger AJP Master/Cylinder. But my intention ist that this makes it much worse. (Bigger Cylinder = More liquid). Or i am wrong?

Only the reservoir is larger, the bore is the same. The functional difference is the geometry of the lever.

  14. I think the most important thing to worry about is clearance between the tire and the exhaust on the right and the chain tensioner and guard on the left.

I agree with your friends who've suggested that you may be overthinking things a bit. I almosted passed beer through my nose when I read the part of your post about looking for a Bultaco service bulletin.

Hope to see you in the sections, I'll be on the blue 199.

  15. I am sorry if I have started off on the wrong foot.

31 votes and 80% have voted either positively or aren't bothered, so it's not that controversial a subject.

Montesa/Honda would definitely sell more bikes if they made a few different classes of bike, instead of just the 250.

They would certainly sell more in the U.S., if they imported them. I think a lot of people who aren't hard core Trials people would feel better about buying a Honda.
