  1. Read the story,......maybe it sort of resembles the publics perception of Trials

    THE SITUATION

In Washington, DC, at a Metro Station, on a cold January morning in 2007, this man with a violin played six Bach pieces for about 45 minutes. During that time, approximately 2,000 people went through the station, most of them on their way to work. After about 3 minutes, a middle-aged man noticed that there was a musician playing. He slowed his pace and stopped for a few seconds, and then he hurried on to meet his schedule.

    About 4 minutes later:

The violinist received his first dollar. A woman threw money in the hat and, without stopping, continued to walk.

    At 6 minutes:

A young man leaned against the wall to listen to him, then looked at his watch and started to walk again.

    At 10 minutes:

A 3-year old boy stopped, but his mother tugged him along hurriedly. The kid stopped to look at the violinist again, but the mother pushed hard and the child continued to walk, turning his head the whole time. This action was repeated by several other children, but every parent - without exception - forced their children to move on quickly.

    At 45 minutes:

The musician played continuously. Only 6 people stopped and listened for a short while. About 20 gave money but continued to walk at their normal pace. The man collected a total of $32.

    After 1 hour:

He finished playing and silence took over. No one noticed and no one applauded. There was no recognition at all.

No one knew this, but the violinist was Joshua Bell, one of the greatest musicians in the world. He played one of the most intricate pieces ever written, with a violin worth $3.5 million dollars. Two days before, Joshua Bell sold-out a theatre in Boston where the seats averaged $200 each to sit and listen to him play the same music.

This is a true story. Joshua Bell, playing incognito in the D.C. Metro Station, was organized by the Washington Post as part of a social experiment about perception, taste and people's priorities.

    This experiment raised several questions:

    * In a common-place environment, at an inappropriate hour, do we perceive beauty?

    * If so, do we stop to appreciate it?

    * Do we recognize talent in an unexpected context?

One possible conclusion reached from this experiment could be this:

If we do not have a moment to stop and listen to one of the best musicians in the world, playing some of the finest music ever written, with one of the most beautiful instruments ever made . . .

How many other things are we missing as we rush through life?

  2. SCOTTISH LOVE STORY

An elderly Scotsman lay dying in his bed. While suffering the agonies of impending death, he suddenly smelled the aroma of his favourite pan fried drop scones wafting up the stairs.

He gathered his remaining strength and lifted himself from the bed. Leaning on the wall, he slowly made his way out of the bedroom and with even greater effort, gripping the railing with both hands, he crawled downstairs.

With laboured breath, he leaned against the door-frame, gazing into the kitchen. Were it not for death's agony, he would have thought himself already in heaven, for there, spread out upon the kitchen table were literally hundreds of his favourite scones.

Was it heaven? Or was it one final act of love from his devoted Scottish wife of sixty years, seeing to it that he left this world a happy man?

Mustering one great final effort, he threw himself towards the table, landing on his knees in a crumpled posture. His aged and withered hand trembled towards a scone at the edge of the table, when it was suddenly smacked by his wife with a wooden spoon .......

    she said...............

"p*** off', they're for the funeral."

  3. Riders dont gear down on the front to lower first gear they usually gear down to make second gear more usable i.e. lower.

They then use first gear as a grannie gear and second as a general riding gear.

There are sections where torque is needed and sections where speed is needed.

I think that you are correctly mathematically/physics but wrong in practicality.

Trials riders when changing front sprockets 99 out of a 100 times will put a lower front sprocket on.

You can throw all the math you want at us it does not change the fact that we put smaller front sprockets on our bikes.

    :guinness:

    .Great answer Billy,

Some find the gearing down of the front by one tooth will not only slow the bike so they can creep along slower in first gear, using it in first gear and maybe over reving it will still get you there and when you back off it slows you much quicker , giving you more time for the next bit of section you are to negotiate.

  4. Not to bad ...... if you are a girl ....hahahh

No need to speed at the log, sloooooow approach, lift front wheel to touch log mid height or a little higher as wheel touchs compress rear, feather in the clutch add more revs as suspension is rising fully engage clutch and lift up on bars and lift up on pegs with your thighs , this should see back wheel rise up high on log and not thump into it, keep front wheel elevated with this combination, do it with the right timing combination should not feel the hit of the back wheel and you should not make that log rock and roll, practice timing over and over till you get it sweet.

  5. Can only imagine the many times these top riders are at the mercy of the local punchers. If you have punchers who have an attitude to a particular brand or have even had an earlier "misunderstanding" with an elite rider it is only human nature to set them in their place if given the opportunity. There is no doubt Adam stopped and incurred the 5 penalty, but as dabster has pointed out, he was maybe taking the lead from Bou's ride and felt with this puncher there was a margin that was acceptable...... obviously that is where the whole system is NOT a fair reflection on the final scoreboard at the end of the day.

  6. A devout Arab Muslim entered a black cab in London.

He curtly asked the cabbie to turn off the radio because as decreed by his religious teaching, he must not listen to music because

in the time of the prophet there was no music, especially Western music which is the music of the infidel.

The cab driver politely switched off the radio, stopped the cab and opened the door.

The Arab Muslim asked him, "What are you doing?"

The cabbie answered, "In the time of the prophet there were no taxis, so p*** off and wait for a camel!"

  7. Conversation overheard on the VHF Guard (emergency) frequency 121.5 MHz while flying from Europe to Dubai.

Iranian Air Defense Site: 'Unknown aircraft you are in Iranian airspace. Identify yourself.'

Aircraft: 'This is a United States aircraft. I am in Iraqi airspace.'

Air Defense Site: 'You are in Iranian airspace. If you do not depart our airspace we will launch interceptor aircraft!'

Aircraft: 'This is a United States Marine Corps FA-18 Fighter. Send 'em up, I'll wait!'

Air Defense Site: ( ... total silence)
