  1. Doncaster, what a great place .. Seriously ... Does anyone know of any decent practice areas within say 20 mile radius, where I can take myself and two sons, 9 and 12, Trials riding without getting hassled by either chavs on nicked Honda 90's, 'crossers or the police ? There are a couple fo really good motocross tracks near us, Armthorpe and Austerfield, but they don't like Trials bikes .. We'd travel further for really good places .. We have a couple of areas that are accessible and relatively free of hassle, but not really totally legal, slurry pits etc between the Pilkingtons Glassworks and Thorpe Marsh power station for instance, and not really safe or offering any great challenge, though they are flat enough in parts to teach the little one.
  2. Thanks for the suggestions, it seems so silly now ... Changed Spark plug again, and same thing, runs at low revs but lumpy, when revs added it runs, but very roughly then eventually dies ... had to be a fuel or breathing problem. Took plastics off, carb off, tank off, shed-loads of cleaning etc replaced it all, didn't change a blind thing. Had air filter side off, couldn't see a problem, but started it with it off and it ran badly again, but then I saw a movement. There was a single leaf inside the airbox/tube to carb and at low revs it was flapping about and letting air through. At higher revs the carb was acting like a hoover, sucking the leaf in, and closing the airway, and the leaf occasionally stuck there but also occasionally unsticking and letting air through again .. pulled leaf out, cleaned it all up and hey presto, all is now well .. I _AM_ a happy bunny again .. Now I'm gonna strip it completely and do 'everything', seals, gaskets, all those little jobs that rarely get done. Then I'm gonna play ..
  3. Hi, Fantic 307 1991, 250 cc air-cooled. Running on about 50:1 petrol oil mix, and ran fine for a full days 'playing' at the weekend, left with fuel turned off in shed, got it out yesterday, started up, didn't get warm before stopping it, and it just won't run now. It will start, will run for a minute or so, but then dies and won't start again without a plug clean and re-fit. Tried a brand new NGK B9ES plug, same thing happens. Checked fuel flow from tank to carb and all seems well, no obstructions in either airbox or in exhaust, though there is a lot of black oily spray over the rear of the front mudguard as though the exhaust is leaking, which it doesn't appear to be whilst running !! When the motor dies it does so slowly. Hard to describe, but it doesn't just stop dead, it slows, won't rev and then seems to miss a cycle or so every so often, then dies ... I haven't stripped the carb yet, I haven't done more than the most basic checks of fuel and air, but would like some pointers as to where to look next. This is a new (second-hand) purchase, so there may be more problems than are immediately apparent .. When we first got it, it ran sweet as a nut. Run maybe two tank fulls of fuel through it. Same fuel, same fuel pump, same 2-stroke oil, same mix. The carb hasn't been played with that I know of, though my son did have the bike out the other day to show his mates, though it wasn't started.
  4. Got them, many, many thanks.
  5. That'd be great, and would be most appreciated. My email address is valid ..
  6. Hi again, Does anyone know where I can get a '91 Fantic 307 manual, workshop manual, handbook etc etc from ? I've looked all over the internet and there's little to no information available that is either readable or useful. If anyone has a manual spare or for sale I'd be willing to pay a reasonable price for it. Thanks,
  7. Yup .. extremely like that .. 'cept it has an all red tank / seat / rear mudguard .. though there are layers on layers of paint on it. We also don't have the lights or speedo, but they're technicalities .. That's a great site, I never thought about trying the Italian sites .. figured I can't speak it, so I probably couldn't read it either. Does anyone know of UK based suppliers who might supply a rear mudguard/seat unit and tank? And any other spares etc .. or would that also be Bill Pye etc as posted earlier ? Many thanks ..
  8. Many thanks. Certainly has orange hubs and white frame .. the rest has been painted so many times it's hard to say, but inside of the tank looks orage ish ... I'll certainly try Pems and Bill Pye, appreciated.
  9. Thanks. We've only just got the bike, so haven't really looked much yet, and I can't find many resources for Fantic on the internet at all. We haven't read the 'papers' yet either, we only compete at a local club level so don't really keep up with them anymore.
  10. Hi, I'm new to this forum, please bear with me. I'm trying to find out the exact model and year of manufacture of a Fantic trials bike we've just bought, mainly so we can repair and maintain it in good fettle. We believe it's a 250, has monoshock rear end, upside down forks, disc brakes front and rear and an air-cooled engine. We were told it's a 1991 model, but don't know the model number / name or even if what we were told is true. Could anyone help ? We can take and send / post digital pictures if that would help, though I haven't taken any yet, just played on it so far .. It has been re-painted a number of times and has Yamaha stickers on the tank, but that's not really a problem. We also want to buy a new petrol tank, seat and mudguard unit as these are broken ..and no doubt there will be other bits needed when we have a closer look, certainly we also need a gear lever, side stand, and possibly head and wheel bearings, as well as fork seals etc. The engine itself sounds pretty good, though it does feel choked, so carb jets and air cleaner might also be needed, as well as a de=coke maybe. I normally ride a Beamish Suzuki in Twin shock class, but the Fantic is a little lighter and easier to handle for the children, so we also want to make it as reliable as possible. Any information anyone could send would help immensely.
