  1. hi i have just bought a 4rt after a gas gas 280 which was too much for me. loads of fun to ride, youll get used to the weight, wont be messing about with silly maintenance and this bike will put a huge smile on your face. cheers bob
  2. Hi I have just got into trials too- mid 40s- experience of enduro and road racing. I ride a KTM 950 supermoto on road and an r6 on track. I bought a cheap gas gas 280 pro and it was more scary than my old R1. Tried to sort it with a slow action throttle- did a bit but still too much for me- novice. Part exd it for a montesa 4rt 250- miles better fro me- much less scary too!! I would say go for max 250- the gas gas is so light even the 250 is a bit too much. cheers bob
  3. Yep- changed the oil again today and all the whitish colour has gone- brilliant!! thanks for all your help people cheers bob
  4. Received my waterpump shaft today- fitted all new parts- changed oil- still a little whitish but i imagine it will take 1-2 oil changes to sort fully- i`ll change the oil again tomorrow. Bike running really well at the mo` ( fingers crossed )- went to a practice session today-next thing clutch maintainance session. cheers bob
  5. I bike shop near me has recommended Rock OIL Gear Oil 10W/30 , a semi synthetic oil for two stroke gearboxes- I havent used it yet- would you say this is suitable for my `02 pro? Cheers Bob
  6. Ordered the parts from gas gas uk- it all came on monday apart from the shaft itself- hopefully will be here today in the post and i am ready to sort- will keep you posted. cheers bob
  7. took my waterpump to bits- there is definitely two grooves on the shaft where the seal fits- you can see it with the eye and can tell there is two delves with the finger nail- lloks like you have found the solution for me- cheers bob
  8. Thanks Jon I have watched the video- very useful thanks Cheers Bob
  9. Thanks Jon - will have a go tomorrow cheers Bob
  10. Hi My oil has also turned a grey colour- bike seems to be running ok though- could anyone tell me how to fit the seal or shaft ( how do I know if the shaft is worn?)- how can you tell if the seal is worn as well? Also where do I get these parts from? cheers Bob
  11. This is a great thread- i have just started trials and am finding it great fun but a little alien. Was pretty good at m-cyclesports- motocross- supersport ( in the past ) but have never done trials before- very different- I have been going to a local quarry every other day to get my skills up to speed- I hope that within 3 months ( ?) I`ll be at least OK for a novice. cheers Bob
  12. Started Trials in the last week - done some green laning and a bit of enduro some time back. But my wrists really ache when I am stood and especially doing stand up wheelies- feels really alien- will this get better?- I find all my precision goes out the window as my body weight is held up by my wrists- should I be gripping with my legs -should I still be covering clutch and front brake with my index fingers? Really enjoying it though. Help much appreciated. cheers Bob
  13. hi sorted the bike today- took 5 mins to strip the bike- 2 hrs to put back. refitting the carb was a nightmare until i got the hairdryer out to loosen the airbox side. i put 50;1 in the bike- been told that this is fine though i have read on this forum that this should be 80;1- any ideas? the bike seems to run great now and started without the choke- bit different to before thouhg the tank holding nut went awol- found it in the frame but I have no idea how I would get this back to where it was so it fitted with 2 cable ties. cheers bob
  14. Thanks for your help- I`ll have a good fiddle today ( long time since I have done something like this- suppose I should get used to it! ) Cheers Bob
  15. Hi I`ve just bought a 2002 gas gas 280 pro and it is a little weird to start From cold I put the choke on full ( vertical )- 2 kicks and we are off! Idles straight from cold. When it is warm ( fan already cut in ) I still need the choke to start it- 2 kicks and it starts. The bike is in good condition though has not been used for 18 months Will this be the old petrol / spark plug/ airbox? Should I renew all these as a matter of course or use it first ( only started for 30 mins in my garage ) I have no manual or user docs- does anyone know here I could find one online. Any help much appreciated. Cheers Bob
