  1. Following the result from last weekends A/B trial i think the ACU should throw the rule book in the bin and do the right thing. Lets have a run off trial Short v Sadler head to head Bracken rocks date to be arranged Barry Burton as C of course, run as a youth A National championship decider winner takes all. As Both riders deserve to win and it,s not fair to give the championship to the one that fits the rule book lets have it out on the bikes and not in the rule book. And a hand shake to start and finnish the trial. that way youth A championship will be decided on the bike and not in the rule book.

  2. Yes, change that 125 rule. There's a pool of cheap TY175s and quite a few 200s that could be used.

Say - 125s for centre championships etc & 175/200s for club trials starters.

It's essential to make the sport cheap for new youth riders ( or rather their Dads!).

Good idea, plenty of fantic 200 & TY175 yams out there going to wast, keep national rules but change for club & centre trials as they are worlds apart.

  3. Like how to attract more riders to the sport, and how or what can be done to make trials more interesting to the general public. Would it not be possible for the ACU to attend some of the big shows around the country with some of our top riders to give demonstrations and promote the sport. There needs to be two types of trials, the traditional type and the show indoor type for the public which could be more like the BBC kick start that everyone still talkes about to this day.

  4. For those that do the nationals all over the country it can be a bloody long drive home sometimes on a Sunday evening, we normaly listen to the top 40 show and then start listening to CD,s but what do people listen to ? We have had many CD,s over the years like Pink Floyd & Genisis etc, but the current most played seems to be Deleriums Albums called Chimera, or Karma. So what is your most popular motorway CD?

  5. With less youth riders around these days could the ACU not change the rules to teams of three instead of four, otherwise there will be lots of centres up & down the country who will not have a team to compete in this great event. This would also let centres with plenty of youth riders enter more than one team at the same time.

  6. I do not think anybody would want to mind on a bike at any of the compact venues.

This is true, at the West of England BC trial no minders rode as it was quicker to get from section to section on foot, and this would be true of other venues like Bracken rocks etc, but at the larger venues like Scarbrough, Otter Vale, and the Pontypool trial it was impossable to keep up with out a bike

This weekend in A class actual catching was at a minimum but timing a must. How about sections two & three, i think you needed catchers there, while section six about a mile away and about a mile long realy needed someone on the stop watch.

  7. Historically Youth nationals are "open" to anybody who matches the Age criteria. Hence four of five years ago entries near to a Hundred. This meant that with Dads following on bikes the whole thing got too crowded and accidents and incidents happened hence the ban on Minders bikes. With the current more manageable numbers it would seem to be allowable but I can see numbers rising again if that happened leading to the same problem.

    Simple, limit entry to 60 30 A plus 30 B class.

  8. Lots of talk about minders riding bikes at this trial, with a 3 mile lap it was impossable to be at and time them through every section. Its about time ACU looked in to this, its not a problem at the adult rounds so why not let minders ride at the A/B rounds.

  9. I think it,s a great shame that the Mintex time trial and the stDavids BTC trials clash as several of the top youth riders would like to take part in both events. I also understand that the Y.M.S.A. have a round of their championship planned for the same day, which will affect entries at both events. There are several dates in June with nothing much on, just a shame for everyone that the Mintex could,nt move to the 27th then all the top youth riders would be there.

  10. Yes sorry I have to agree with all said before. Not a Championship trial and defintely not worth the time, money and effort getting there, and that was the rider not the parent saying that. Trials at this level should have sections to attack and not be the minute you make one mistake the day is over!

Must agree but i think the biggest question must be about the type of section they use at this venue, they not only show a complete lack of imagination or intrest in giving the top lads a real challange, but in places i would consider them to be likely to damage both bikes and riders alike for no good reason. It,s about time the ACU made a ruling that any club applying to run a championship event must name in thier application a person within thier club who has competed or been connected with that championship in the last two years.

  11. Hi,

I have a GasGas TXT Pro 125 and I am wanting more power. I am 15 so I have to stick to the 125 to ride in trials. We will be putting a new piston in it and I was wondering what we could do to get more power.

    thanks, Sam

The top Gas Gas youth riders in the country don,t have this problem, so think again. In the wrong hands Power = trouble

  12. Historically the Youth Nationals have attracted entries close to 100 riders and it would not be feasible to have between 70-100 riders with another 70-100 minders on bikes. Given numbers have fallen it may be logistically possible but then entries would have to be limited in number. That would discourage any rider who only wanted to ride in their local events who MAY then go on to compete regularly.

Secondly Many dads aren't themselves riders. So to make sure nobody gained an advantage it was deemed better that no Minder/Dad have a bike.

Would it not be better if there was a traveling Steward (on a bike) at youth events who could be called on from any section to assist in any way to any rider. Otter Vale to whom i am a member did have one, but he was back marker and not steward, well done Keelan Hancock, who is a real nice lad. This could work at C/D rounds, but at the top end of A/B we have come through the system and it,s like a traveling family that meets six or seven times a year and we all look out for each other. So you start the D class at 18 stone and six years latter your son,s a star and you weigh 10 stone and can run like a rabbit, can,t see anything wrong with that.

  13. Remember it well, the start was in the same field as the Scott trial start. Joel Edwards won D class & Josh Spintle won C class. It was a heat wave plus 80 degree,s. Slept in the back of my mates LDV van next to a TY80 with a leaking fuel tap felt like sh8t in the morning, drove 300miles down south after trial and slept in van again just to do a bloody centre championship trial next day, nothing much changes, i,am sure Toni Bou and the other top riders do that sort of thing all the time.

  14. Sorry to hear about Joel,s accident get well soon mate from all the IOW lads Chris George & the two Alans, you better get back on that bloody bike soon co,s you and your dad always make us laugh and we,v been through the ranks together from D class and our British championship events won,t be the same with out you, so GET WELL SOON.

  15. It would be interesting to here the Scarbrough clubs offical point of view, and also to read the ACU stewards report on this trial. My son did ride in this trial but his minder decided to pull him out after first lap to save him & his bike for another day. The Scarbrough club is well respected in the trials world and know what they are doing, but as Andy said earlier (something went wrong), i think we would all like to know what please.

  16. But could an inspection of the trial by C of course in the morning helped, and slight changes to sections taking into account the weather have been made? I know that ice is the worst thing to ride on and we can,t blame Scarbrough club for that, but some early morning changes to sections may have made the back end of the fields day a bit more enjoyable.

  17. Last year Ian won A class on 6 with San Conner second on 11, this year Ian wins on 122.

Last week Dan Thorpe won National on 7 this week he droped 151.

Last week Chris Short won youth A class & Chris Stay was 2nd, this week Shorty retaired after hurting his hand & Chris Stay retaired after failing to get through any sections on first lap to live to fight another day. The results would suggest that this trial was a bit over the top to say the least.

  18. Have heard from ground that sections are over the top, like last years main route is like this years A class route even top riders a bit concerned hope things improve for tomorrow. In practice riders running out of time half way through sections. lets hope it works our OK.
