  1. I've used a Talon 1/4" spacer on the back wheel and 1/4" spacers on the rear engine plates ( front plates welded on to suit), seems fine.
  2. Charlie, I've used MZ forks in my Bantam with a TY175 front wheel, the TY spindle is too small dia for one fork leg, so you need a either a spacer or a new spindle ( the TY spindle is a little bit short anyway) with a larger shoulder on it. If you want to save some money on yokes, those billet yokes are a tad expensive for me, you can use Kawasaki KX80 yokes, almost a straight swap (see my photo in the "Fuel tanks" thread) and they don't look out of place. Cheers.

    Fuel Tanks

Yes they did look a bit like a pair of ape hangers!

    Fuel Tanks

It's an early Suzuki TS 185 head, they only did a four stud head for either 1 or 2 years and the stud pattern is very close to a Bantam, as I'll be using a TS 185 piston I thought I'd get the head to go with it and found one for £15! Cut down with a grinder it looks like a B175 head ( in the dark!)

    Fuel Tanks

Thanks, I like the look of the tank, just have to wait and see what it's like to ride with! The tank is made from a sheet of 2 m.m. alloy that I couldn't use for customers (scratched, but they'll polish out). I used the same sheet to make the mudguards, seat base and air filter box. I used 1.2 m.m for the side panels and number board. I've now changed those hideous bars for some much nicer ones from Sammy Miller's.Very happy with it so far

    Fuel Tanks

Thanks for the replies, I made a start on my tank today (when I should have been working ) I taped up all the seams and it holds just over a gallon. Hopefully I can finish it tomorrow, then start on something else, exhaust probably.

    Fuel Tanks

Hi all, I'm just starting to make the fuel tank for my Bantam and was wondering about fuel capacity, how much fuel do you think a trials Bantam needs? I'll only be doing club events and won't be doing any road trials, is a gallon enough capacity? Thanks.
  9. Can anybody confirm for me that Cub sprockets fit the later type Bantam rear hubs i.e. D10 - D14. Lots of people seem to offer rear sprockets for trials Cubs but not for Bantams, I thought they were the same fitment ???
  10. Whatever somebody's willing to pay for it really (bit obvious sorry!), I'd be willing to bet the hypothetical buyer would be Spanish though. (Or me if I won the lottery )
  11. I'm going to need to purchase some new rear shocks soon for my Bantam, I'm leaning towards Rock Shocks but would welcome opinions, experiences etc... What say you?
  12. I've got a rear wheel to re-build for a trials Bantam, what are your thoughts/preferances on spoke material? I'm sure stainless would look nicer if that's your thing, but I'm thinking maybe galvanised spokes might "give" a little more, does that make sense? I'm interested to know what other riders have chosen, and why......... Thanks.
  13. I'd second the 7075/T6. Cheers.

    The New Haul

The "old motor" is a Model 10 4 speed motor, and yes I'm jealous!
  15. "Must be in keeping with the spirit of the originals" I can see that might lead to some rather interesting disagreements! All the rules I've since found seem a little vague, no wonder there's some very "special" pre-65's on the go.
  16. Sorry if it's a bit basic or has been asked before but........ is there a set of rules that pre 65 bikes have to follow or do different clubs have their own? I couldn't find anything on the ACU site, in fact couldn't find much apart from the Yorkshire Classic Trials site (good site). Anybody help? Thanks.
  17. wow! a model 10, looks to be in the same condition as mine
  18. Hmmm.......... how many events have rules that state the front forks have to be "British"? do many allow you to use early Yam etc.. or say early Bultaco forks? I'm on a budget and only want to build my bike once if I can help it. Thanks.
  19. Having looked at the D7 forks again I've realised the C15 type would be a lot better, anybody got any tips on the C15 conversion? Thanks.
  20. Just wondering how many people stick to Bantam forks when doing a Pre 65 Bantam trials build, are they usable? what mods if any? or is the C15 fork conversion a better bet? I've already got some Bantam forks (D7) so would like to use them if they're suitable, but if not I'll look for others, any recomendations? Thanks.
  21. Would a rake of 67 degrees (23 from vertical) sound about right? Any idea's on front forks that would be pre-65 legal? Thanks.
  22. Looking for info on converting a D7 into a trials bike for Classic/Pre 65 trials, what mods would you recomend doing to a D7 to get it trials ready? I'm thinking strip down the frame and sharpen up the head angle (what degrees?) maybe widen the swing arm for a slightly bigger tire, alloy tank/seat........ I'd be gratefull for any advice/links/pics etc... Thanks.
  23. I'm probably going to have to make my own replica model 10 mudguards, did they have a raised bead (swage line) all around the outside or just at each end do you know? I can't tell from photo's. Thanks.
  24. Hi Greeves, thanks, hopefully it'll look just like that when finished.
