End of another Era! Sad in a way, but these guys deserve a break!

To even Begin to do what Doug has done in his career is unthinkable for most!

Doubt we have seen the last of him! The Scottish next year may be even more interisting!

Best to Doug and family!

It was great being among the supporters as Dougie entered the section. Even when he was just walking it through, You felt a great sense of presence of an Icon and just looking across at some faces of the crowd, they were just transfixed by him and his every move. And when he rode the section, the support from the crowd put up the hairs on the back of my neck!

After the trial at section 15, I saw him take his lad for a little ride up and away from the crowds. You could see in his face many emotions as he must of being reflecting on the day, his career, the future and many other things no doubt. A very poignant moment and one that will always stick in my mind.

Finally, it was great to be there to see it all, and at the same time, the new breed of Brits coming through as well. The legacy he left is in these riders and I am sure that will be something they will always be grateful for.

having popped along for the first time (first time I've had a free weekend when it was on) i was struck by how small the crowd was (when compared to other events at Hawkstone, especially the March International MX), particularly in the car park (ie by number of cars). However in the sections its very apparent that there are too many people for the terrain for any more people to be there. But the structure of the trail means that the crowd isn't using all the sections equally during the period of the trial because the top class entry is so small the crowd keeps moving. the other key thing that struck me was the lack of local type advertising (ie no AA/RAC signs, banners at the end of the lane, etc). Interestingly there was a large police presence (normally very hard or expensive to get). The presence of a wide variety of food vendors was a really good thing. Was the road actually closed ? as we find that expensive and hard to get.

BTW I must thank once again the complete stranger who near the pay booth gave me their spare free ticket that they had won. I was incredible chuffed to say the least!

Yes, a brilliant day, but why are there never any direction markers to get there? I've been to Hawkstone times and still manage to get lost. I just hope the organisers didnt lose any 'casual' visitors who gave up looking and went home..

We travelled down from Manchester. Past Oulton Park on the A49.

AA Signposted from about 10 miles away. No problems.

Maybe Jake put them out on his way down to the trial !!!!!!!

Enjoyed the event and a pleasure to be amongst so many like minded people.

Hats off to all the riders for having the bottle to take on some pretty scarey looking stuff.

It was 1994 at Houghton Towers, the 24th of April, I know cos I was there and I've still got the Tee shirt to prove it.

In those day's it was one lap on Saturday, two on Sunday and by tea time Sunday there were about a thousand standing round the pond in the middle of a field by the trade stalls but quite a way from the padock waiting for the results and presentation. The results were in the anouncers hand, a little table supported the silverware, a great or good person was waiting to do the honours, Dougie was there Steve Colley and Graham Jarvis but no foreigners. "Anyone know where all the continental lads are" the anouncer hails over the loudspeaker.

In the silence of the moment a Yorkshire voice in the crowd shouts aloud "the're all in the padock sucking lemons", this brought the loudest laughter and cheer of the day. After the results and presentations Stuart Dozey the Dunlop rep was duly thrown in the pond and a good week end was had by nearly all. Dougie is the Worlds most successful Trials rider of all time and I'll be there at the TDN in seven weeks time in the wonderful Isle of Man ( not just cos I live there) with a hope this time to be, the voice in the crowd, with a Manx accent.
