hi everybody, This may seem like a stupid question but I was trying to seat a Michelin X11 rear tubeless with a compressor and at 50psi it still hadnt popped on the bead. Now i notice on the tyre it says max pressure 33psi. Is it safe to go more or how much do you find it normally takes?

usually needs about 70-80 psi before it pops on both sides, make sure you put plenty tyre soap on, that helps a lot

I changed a front on an old JTX a couple of weeks back and took it to 120 psi before it popped onto the rim !

I was however standing round the corner of very thick wall at the time.

In my experience, normally between 50 and 70 to get a tyre (tubed or tubeless) to bead properly.

use soap Putoline do a nice small tub and it should slip on much easier.

60-65 usually pops them on with abit of tyre soap, keep at 60 lbs over night allowing the soap to dry and its stuck fast

Yep, 70 psi. However, if it looks like sticking at that point I deflate and put some more tyre soap on and start again.

Hey thanks for all the replies - much appreciated - i was worried the tyre might explode!!!

Yeah man.... tyres do explode... please make sure you have ear defenders and safety glasses on. These two things take about 20 seconds to find and wear... not long really eh.

Update: So with the addition of some more soap both sides popped onto the bead at between 53 and 60 PSI without a beading ring but just by prewidening the tyre sides and ratcheting around the circumference.
