I'm new to this trials game, and was wondering are all fairly modern trials bikes pretty much the same or are there some characteristic differences between the manufacturers? So for example is there a Honda of the trials bike world which 'fits like a glove', is very usable, has excellent build quality but is possibly a bit boring, or a BMW which is quirky, excellent engineering but a bit rough round the edges so to speak.

I'm pretty good at telling different road bikes apart but to my eyes, trials bikes are pretty identical....Enlighten me

You are right they are pretty identical.

There is a bike like that but it's a different one for each of us, get a crack on as many as you can decide for yourself. Every bike has it's quirks.

Cant agree more. Very different in the 80's where each manufacturers machine seem to have very different characteristics, but coming back to it I have not seen such a range of difference. But saying that, the bikes are not identical. I love the geometry of my sons Beta but cant fault the power delivery of my Rev 3?

Best advice I was given here for my first bike (coming back into it) was to try a few then buy the best I could for my money (in terms of how much its been looked after/maintained etc). Then get out and enjoy riding.......
