December 19, 200916 yr Last time I bought a TY250 element from www.uniflow.com.au it came with a new cage in the same bag as the foam element. If you still want to make your own cage, I can measure one up and post details later on today.
December 19, 200916 yr Author Thanks very much for the reply I shall order one from uniflow, i didnt know they came as one because on the tytrials website it says in the future they are having some remanufactured ,once again thanks for the help and quick replys.
December 19, 200916 yr Not that I'm cheap or anything but I took the filter material off the "cage" and bought filter material (a guy sells it on ebay). You can buy enough material for 10 filters for the cost of one complete unit. Try here: http://www.unifilter.com/ Alan Edited December 19, 200916 yr by Alan_nc
December 19, 200916 yr 1974, 1975 TY250 A-B's have cages in side the air filter element part #434-14458-00-00 and the 1976/77 did not, although both my bikes 1974 and 1976 both have them. You don't mention what year yours is. I would certainly agree you do need one, check E bay or see if they are still available from Yamaha, at least in the US there's still quite a bit still in the warehouse. I always check at the dealer before looking at Ebay etc. Mark. Edited December 19, 200916 yr by wrenchbender

December 20, 200916 yr no need for a cage just use a scorp sy air filter fits into the top no problem and will run a lot cleaner Pretty sure thats a no go in the later models due to holes in the airbox body If you look at the unifilter site they only list for 74 models so there has to be a difference in design Edited December 20, 200916 yr by tony27

I always check at the dealer before looking at Ebay etc. Mark. My 1977 TY250D air cleaner uses the same type of filter and cage as my TY250A and TY250B. The air box is different though in that it breathes through a slot in the lid on the D model and breathes through two holes in the side of the airbox on the TY250A and TY250B. When you say the 1976/77 model does not have a cage, what supports the filter foam?
December 20, 200916 yr If you look on the Yamaha online parts site you'll see that all ty250 twinshocks use the same air filter and cage, my mistake when looking at the diagrams for the 76, 77 models it wasn't shown but it was listed under the part #'s. Air boxs are different. Like I said my 76 was the same filter and cage as my 74. Sorry for the confusion.
