April 5, 201016 yr Hey guys i urgently need some help here i was riding today went to shift from first to second and nothing the shifter feels fine but wont grab any gears it feels like it is stuck in first wont go to neutral or anything... no binding or anything like that..any advice at all to get me up and running again or am i going to have to split the case? thanks in advance for any advice
April 5, 201016 yr If you are lucky, it will just be the top hat & spring that sit at the end of the shaft. You have to remove the clutch basket to get to it. If not you will have to split the cases.
April 5, 201016 yr On the end of the gear lever shaft there are two spring loaded rollers that engage with the selector drum and rotate it in either direction. You've broken the little spring on one of these so the drum will only turn one way - into first gear and no further. I have a nasty feeling it could be a motor out, cases split job but perhaps its possible to withdraw the gear lever shaft from inside the clutch case? No doubt someone will come along later who knows for sure. Edited April 5, 201016 yr by Lowbrow

You better pray it is the top hat, but I am tempted to agree with Lowbrow that a full job is needed. -Jan
April 6, 201016 yr You need to split it, its only a couple of hour job, they are dead easy to do, there's nothing to a trial bike engine, the only thing that may be a bit of a prob is the flywheel, if you have'nt got a puller, just give it a good clout on the side with a cooper hammer that will break the taper, the rest is really stright forward.
April 6, 201016 yr watch the video on the Gas Gas USa site, its also on youtube search under Gas Gas Pro it takes you through splitting the motor step by step, really helpful.
April 8, 201016 yr Author well motor is out today thanks to my local gasgas dealer he will be taking it from there tho thanks for the replys, i fear the worst has happened....
