January 7, 201214 yr Today I have removed my old rim tape and cleaned the rim for the new one...but I cant get it to seal. There is still about 3 of the spokes leaking. The rim seal is seated all the way round. Any ideas what I can try? Cheers
January 7, 201214 yr make sure everything is clean and dry. put a little mastic on each spoke, not silicone.let it set and refit tape.
January 8, 201214 yr I had the same problem. I cleaned the rim to within an inch of its life and fitted the new tape using plenty of soapy water and problem solved. I have added two links which I found useful. My link My link
January 8, 201214 yr I dislike using soapy water because if you use any liquid soap in water it contains salt ( its a thickener ). when I replaced mine I used WD40, sealed first time no problems.
January 8, 201214 yr Also soaps and detergents contain Caustic and this eats Alluminium for Breakfast, Dinner, Tea, and Supper. Anodised alloy parts such as wheel rims are a bit more resistant to it untill it gets through the surface.
