Gas Gas Gas Leak!

Hi, Newbie here!

Just got back onto a bike after 20 years or so,

(2004 Gas Gas Raga 250) .............

Wow ! Things have changed since trying stuff on Yamaha DT's!

So just come back with a big grin, :hyper: having run out of gas,

refilled with first tankful since delivery,

and now its peeing out of carb bowl overflow.

Stops when tap turned off. So I guess its a bit of **** on the float valve.

Or can it just be sticking??

Or have I over filed the tank??,

I know nowt about Gas Gas!!

Any advice before I pull the wrong thing apart??

Thanks

Welcome back to motorcycles, sounds like you are enjoying yourself.

If you did not have fuel overflowing out the top of the fuel tank you did not overfill it. and if you did there is no big problem other than you have fuel all over your bike. :o There is no special level in the fuel tank, they are still just basic fuel holding tanks like years past.

If the floats are stuck you may be able to tap the float bowl with the handle of a screw driver and "free" them up.

The title of the thread reminded me of a fuel can I saw at an event that made me chuckle. On the side of the can it said "Gas Gas Gas" :D

Sometimes floats stick, gently tap the float bowl and it might be ok.

Failing that , clean the carb.

That usually will fix it. Another common problem is that someone may have "adjusted" the tab that

limits the float arm drop and the arm is down too far, which can cause the float needle valve to get

cocked in the valve bore and the carb bowl will flood.

Carb seems level, have 'tapped' carb, bounced bike a few times, but as soon as tap is on, it p*** itself. So will go clean carb. But I did notice that the drain spout 'bulge' on the bottom of the carb, seems to be slowly hammering through the gearbox casing, as it vibrates! Is this 'normal'? Maybe I'll araldite a small metal plate under it, or wedge a bit of inner tube?

If you have the delorto carb, there are 2 vents, one on each side of the carb... A neat and tidy "hosing trick" was used: where a single hose goes under the carb to both sides to these vents. BE AWARE, that the bottom is cut or opened, under the carb so it "vents." Without this cutting or opening under the carb, it is NOT vented. Dont ask me how we know...

you could have used 2 separate hoses, but they don't at the factory either.

 All sorted! Dunno what was wrong, no visible c*** in it.

Popped off float bowl.

Pulled out valve, looked at it!

Put it back together.

Now fine!!

Thanks for all the input.

You gave it the "Evil Eye" and told it to shape up and fly right!

You must have a formidable "Look"
