I'm not saying it's the observer's fault. It's the FIM's fault. Rolling back with your feet up used to be legal (1997+- I think).

I've actual used that formula recently to determine distance between two towns (if I know the lat/long coordinates) in a group that I do volunteer work for. Good thing I paid attention in school. (Kids, let this be a lesson to you.) :-)
