I just started rebuilding a basket case Berkly with a Excelsior 3 cyl engine , All is going well except for one detail I can't find any info on anywhere ... I don't think anything more than about 18 - 20 ft.lbs. would appropriate considering the age of the unit ... ? Any opinions ??? guys Posted September 21, 2013 Report Share Posted September 21, 2013 (edited) The cylinder head (which also has no gasket) nuts of my 1975 Bultaco have 8mm studs (= 5/16") should be tightened with 12 ft.lbs. It starts and runs , Moved it about the shop , Got to fix the throttle linkage and shift linkage before I test drive someone else's barbie car ! (think 1/2 the size of a Miata ...!) axulsuv Posted September 30, 2013 Author Report Share Posted September 30, 2013 Drove it today after 3 or 4 hrs of tinkering with the carb balence (DAMN AMALS !) and had the steering shaft unscrew from the box while in a turn @ 30+ ... Got it back to the shop to be told the car was built as a museum display piece and to their knowledge had never been actually driven ... But it works now ...
