Bash Plate/skid Plate Installation Tips.

Featured Replies

Recently took the bash/skid plate off my beta rev 2008 and I'm having a right chew getting all the holes aligned to get it back on.

I've currently managed to get 3 sorted but the 4th is about 5mil out at the moment. Are there any hints or tips to make this easier?

I had a quick google, couldn't find anything but there was a video on youtube of a guy putting one on a Honda CR MX bike, and he laid the bike on the side rather than on a stand!!

Any help greatly appreciated.

Big ratchet strap, and I've also used extra long bolts to pull the plate into line and then swapped the bolts individually. I've usually found it easier to fit the front bolts first so the threads are half way in then fit the back ones if that helps.

Diazepam is also helpful after the first hour.

yep. front bolts first, not done up all the way.....then place the bike onto a stand so that the full mass of the bike bears upon the plate....then use locking vice grips to finally draw the plate up to the rear bolt holes one at a time, a small screwdriver inserted into the thread to guide it into place before you lock the pliers...little bit of grease on the threads doesn't hurt

if the plate is really crushed, its a p...k of a job and not good for the frame if its that's damn tight..consider attempting to reshape it in a press...again, not easy but I've had success bending them with heat and a press..I've also replaced them
