September 24, 201510 yr Okay, this is crackers because I've ridden this bike for a season and I should know the answer! I was told by the bloke I bought the 303 off that (unlike my other Fantics) the choke is "On" when the lever is pressed down. After a recent clean up to solve a fuelling issue I'm having doubts as to whether he was right or not. Altering the timing screw can make the bike run well with the lever up or down. Any 303 owners out there with the definitive answer?
September 24, 201510 yr Down is definitely off on a dellorto carb on the 303 I just checked my 305.................
September 25, 201510 yr If it has the Dellorto PHBH 26 it came with when new turn the small air screw in gently until it seats, don't tighten it! Then turn it out 2 turns. That'll be close enough to run okay. When the choke lever is vertical it's on, when it's horizontal it's off.
September 25, 201510 yr The 3 series choke set up is different to the set up on the 5 series bikes, down on a 3 series bike is on,I've just checked on my own 303. Looking at the photos of your bike in the gallery section I think I know your bike maggar,it looks like the one i sold 80% complete to the chap you bought if off.
September 25, 201510 yr Oh sorry it has the metal lever that pivots on the side not the usual flip up plastic lever. My mistake. My 240 and 307 has the plastic flip up type and my 309 had the metal side pivoted type otherwise both carbs are identical. I thought it was only later bikes had the metal type.
September 27, 201510 yr You cannot see the plunger on a 3 series bike, and as fantic240motor and myself have pointed out the set up is different, its worked by a lever which pivots,so when the lever is down the plunger is up hence down is on, this is a photo of my 3 series carb.
September 28, 201510 yr Author Thanks Andy, that has cleared it up. Thanks everyone for your replies. Andy, the bike is for sale currently, do you want to buy it back? I have really enjoyed the 303 but wanted to get back to riding "pure" twinshocks again. Wife says I have too many bikes as well (a woman with about 200 pairs of shoes!) NOW SOLD.
